Got me a new pair of boots!

Monday, May 30, 2011

Today for Memorial Day me and hubby went to REI and he gave me a great after birthday gift, a new pair of hiking boots! Yippie!! I was ready to cut my feet off they hurt so badly from wearing walking shoes. I got Vasque boots and wow, they are awesome, fantastic, wonderful, feely good shoes. I am going to walk in them all day today so that they will be broken in for all those fitness hikes I am doing. Sooooooooo happy today!!

I lost 10 pounds!

Friday, April 22, 2011

I went on the scale last night after my usual 5 mile hike. I expected no changes because I can't really see anything different with my bod. When I looked down at the number I had to recheck and step on it again because I was ultra surprised to find the reading at 150! I haven't had wt loss in 10 yrs but since last month when I started I have lost 10 pounds!!!!! Oh boy, oh joy. I can't tell you in words how great I feel about this wt loss. I really didn't think that at my age I could actually get this excess stuff off my body. I am shrinking!!! Yehawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!! What a boost to my ambition to keep on going on with the great diet and exercise program. Oh happy days, oh what other silly things can I say? I feel great even though my muscles are hurting. Who cares, I am putting some years on to my LIFE!!!

Another 5 miles

Tuesday, April 19, 2011

I am exhausted! This was a tuffy for me today. I don't know why it was harder than usual. My feet hurt more and my calfs are throbbing. I wonder when my body will get "broken in" and it will stop hurting.

Pain is the evidence of change. Your body will adapt soon it will get easier.

Good point Kiwievie, I am taking large steps up hills because I tend to rush through them to get them overwith. Guess what, my feet do ache more since I started rushing up the hills. I will take your tip. emoticon

KIWIEVIE had lots of good suggestions Also - are you stretching afterwards?

Hang in there.... It gets easier!
Make sure that you take smaller/shorter steps going up inclines, and that your shoe laces are not tied to tight. Don't over step to wide.
This can cause pain in your feet and legs.

Good Luck.

The Big Rain Storm

Saturday, April 16, 2011

Me and my Sparks Buddy were planning on doing our usual Kennesaw Battlefield hike last eve but a giant storm of thunder, lightening and monsoon rains came crashing down keeping us safely indoors. Today we made up for it by hiking 5 1/2 fast miles this AM. Tomorrow will be our weekly BIG hike up Kennesaw Mt. By tomorrow I will have hiked 27 miles of trails! Yehaw! I went from a total couch potatoe to a energizer bunny all in a couple of weeks. I am amazing myself everyday. I really didn't think that at my age I had a chance. Now I see people older than me actually running up the same hills I am hiking. My confidence in my ability to get this bod together is coming back. Oh happy days!

I was a bad girl

Tuesday, April 12, 2011

My Sparks bud and I hiked Kennesaw Mt on Sunday but after I got home I was at Walgreens waiting for a script and I picked up a delicious looking box of COOKIES! I ate the whole dang box when I got home! So I made myself take a 2 mile walk on Monday to punish myself. Today we did our 5 mile Kennesaw Battlefield walk. I'm still not broken in- it's a killer the next day when I have to step out of the bed- OUCHIE!

I have the same problem with cheesy garlic bread....I can't stop at one piece.

Life is an on going battle. We just need to move on and avoid the cookie ile.

Yesterday is history. Bravo on today! Try taking the insoles out of your hiking shoes and replace them with SuperFeet (the green ones). Makes a huge difference in spreading out your weight evenly in your shoes and stops hot spots and other ouchies from developing, plus gives you better support so your joints handle it better. And don't forget to stretch after hiking too, just the same as if you ran or did strength.
