Cool Website

Friday, April 20, 2012

I just found this site. It shows pictures of 200 calories worth of all sorts of foods. You can adjust the amount to your own portions (i.e. the whole taco, etc). There's nutrition info too. It even shows you how much exercise you need to do to burn off what you ate.. Pretty cool visual reminder!

Why I Value Developing Healthy Eating and Activity Behaviors

Tuesday, April 17, 2012

I've really been focusing on healthy eating and activity since the end of January... Well, I've had the activity down since Sept of 2011, but was noticing weight gain instead of loss.. In January, I added the healthy eating, I was really ready for it then.. Looking back at my Journey since January 23, 2012, here's a list of why I value healthy eating and activity:

1. I'm feeling better about myself as I'm noticing changes in my appearance
2. Exercise is a stress reliever
3. Even though I haven't had blood work, I know that my cholesterol levels are lowering, without meds
4. Exercise is making me stronger and I'm seeing muscle definition
5. Exercise is building my stamina (I'll be able to walk longer on vacations)
6. I'm sleeping better (falling asleep quicker)
7. Strength training is reducing my risk of osteoporosis
8. My resting heart rate has gotten lower

What are some of your values???

First, I love that picture of Jim Carrey! So FUNNY!!!! LOL!! ^j^ He is the best. I am addicted to the rush I get after a good workout. Eating healthily is a little harder for me; I do the best I can and I am doing better. I love it when I make something healthy that tastes wonderful. Smoothies, soup or nice salads. I've been trying to make workouts more fun, I have a ton of reasons why I won't ever stop working out now and I even found a workout partner, so now I have another reason to be accountable. If it just feels like work everyday I wouldn't even bother going to the gym at 6am to weight train. We really encourage each other and whenever I am at the gym I enjoy my time there so much, whenever someone asks me a question I love helping them. I really value my time these days too. I'm not the best at time management; but I am making time for myself which I never really did before. Making positive changes and moving forward. I value my health more than ever. People like you on this site really inspire me to stick with it. Thanks for your nice blog! emoticon

Several that you mentioned I can certainly agree with.

* I'm feeling stronger and more able when it comes to carrying things around.
* The speed with which my heart rate drops for the high in the midst of an activity to a low has improved notably.
* I'm more in tune with my body - whether it's hungry, thirsty, sore, or hurting.

Motivation #1

Monday, April 16, 2012

I've been collecting pictures and quotes for a new motivation board, but still don't have enough for a whole sheet of paper... I'm too cheap to buy more magazines, so I decided to find some motivation online and post them occasionally as a blog post.. Here's motivation post #1!

    Love them both!

That first definitely had me giggling. I remember the original Buns of Steel VHS tapes so many years ago.

I always laugh at this list. Who on earth weighed enough human legs to know the average weight of one was 40 pounds? Or the parts of an elephant?

Smart Ones Product Review

Wednesday, February 29, 2012

While watching calories, I'm always on the lookout for low calorie sweets. At the grocery store today, I found these in the freezer section.

Itís only 130 calories and 3 grams of fat. It has low-fat vanilla flavored ice cream over a praline flavored cookie crust, topped with caramel sauce, chocolate chunks and pecans.

I couldn't wait and had to try one tonight.. The verdict... They suck! I'm trying to stay away from processed foods and infusing more organic foods into my diet.. After eating 1/4 of one of these, I feel justified. This had such a chemical taste to it that I stopped eating it. It's now an hour later and I still have that chemical taste in my mouth.. Guess I'll go brush my teeth!

Ouch. That's part of why I would rather have tiny servings of all natural ice cream than touch anything touted as "diet".

Thanks for the review.
