Aqua Zumba in a Gorgeous Facility and New Trainings!

Wednesday, February 13, 2013

My daughter took a few pictures of me teaching Aqua Zumba at our YMCA. The pictures aren't the best quality, but you get an idea of what a gorgeous facility this is. It was built just last year. What a blessing!!

(do you see which capris I'm wearing? Do you?? Thanks to you all, I had the courage to wear them, yesterday!)

Also, in other news, I completed the Zumba Core e-training last week, so I can more effectively integrate core moves into my Zumba classes. And, I signed up for Zumba Toning training on March 3rd. I'm so excited!! Toning is one of my absolute FAVORITE specialties that Zumba offers. SWEETNESS! In the newspaper article in a previous blog post, you can see I'm taking a toning class, because I'm resting my purple toning sticks on my shoulders (and I'm also really sweaty *lol*)

Zumba Core:

Ok, enough blabbering. Time for me to get some rest. I went to the doctor's on Monday, because I kept getting rashes, had a sore throat and a low grade temp for about 3 weeks. Well, I have strep throat! Ugh. Thankfully, the antibiotics are doing their thing and I'm already feeling a bit better.

Have an amazing Wednesday, y'all! emoticon

Nope, no swimming involved at all! You stand in the water and use the water's natural resistance as a strength training tool while rocking it out to Latin inspired dance music. It's more like a pool party! emoticon

Do you have to be a good swimmer to do Aqua Zumba? I have a friend that goes to it in Harrisburg but I'm kind of scared of drowning!

Fabulous!!! Love the photos! Great work with the fund raising!
I so wanted to go to the one they were having here, but it was too far away to get to with no transportation -cab would have cost three times as much as entry :( So I play my Zumba Exhilate DVD's back to back and enjoyed 270 minutes of my own marathon!

Weight loss and the Mind

Wednesday, January 30, 2013

For anyone who has lost any weight, did you find that your mental image of yourself conflicted with your actual image?

I'm really struggling with this today. I bought some Zumba capris so that when I teach Aqua Zumba, I wouldn't be so hot (it gets really hot teaching on deck in the pool area). They are very form fitting and when I tried them on my self doubts immediately attacked:

"You're way too large to wear that"
"Who do you think you are? You have no business in those kind of clothes"
"Quick! Put something more forgiving on!!"

My husband constantly tells me that I'm much smaller than i realize. He encouraged me to take a picture and the woman I see in the picture and the one that still lives in my head are completely different.

Anyone else struggle with this?

Oh, and here are the capris.

Would you feel comfortable teaching in these?

I understand what you're saying... we often see ourselves differently than the mirror actually proves, it's a mental thing... Your aqua class sounds like great fun; sure wish I lived in an area that offered something similar!

Have a great day!

Isn't it crazy the tricks your mind plays on you? I remember when I was much heavier, I desperately wished I was just a little smaller and promised myself that once I was, I would love it, appreciate it and never ever go back to my old self. I vowed to simply enjoy life at a smaller size. I had no idea that obesity and weight loss was just as much mental as it was physical. I assumed that once I was thinner, I'd be proud and confident.

Today, I'm surprised to see just how insecure and dysfunctional my self image is. Obesity affects so much more than the physical parts of us, but also affects us mentally...long after the extra pounds are gone.

Thank you all for your very kind words. I may just ignore that inner voice and wear the capris as suggested. emoticon

You look AMAZING! Wear them! Wow, you have done so well! What you are thinking is very normal, many people go through the same thing and sometimes it keeps them from staying thin. Keep battling those inner thoughts, be brave and wear the capris, and enjoy your new self!

I'm having a big issue with this right now. Even though I'm not at goal, I look so much better butI still see myself much heavier. I need to figure this out.

You look terrific! Congrats!

Yes, I would feel comfortable teaching in those IF I looked like you. They might look a bit silly on my nearly 300 pound body so I might not look so great. YOU look FABULOUS though.

I would also say that MANY people have a problem with body images - both seeing themselves as being WAY bigger and seeing themselves as WAY smaller. Have you ever gone to the beach and seen people in clothes that MIGHT have fit ten years earlier but CERTAINLY do not fit NOW.

Try to look at your own pictures as though they were pictures of a stranger or a celebrity. Would you REALLY think that person was WAY TOO FAT to wear them? I look at the pictures and see someone who is fit and trim and who DEFINITELY can carry off that look.
