Emotional roll a coaster, let me off.

Tuesday, August 30, 2011

It started yesterday, a typical Monday morning. DH has to be on the road at 5 am to get to work by 6:30. After he left the house, I went back to bed. I know, not nice, but I need my beauty sleep. I hear his car start up, then it stops and then starts up and does this for over 5 minutes. Ok, get dressed and see what is up. His car will not go out of park. The shifter is on the floor and is an automatic. I tell to take my pickup.

I search the internet and call a mechanic friend of mine to give me some pointers on how to fix it. I reach under the council and press the reset button for the shifter, nothing except now the key will not come out of the ignition. I pull all the fuses and none are bad. I listen and it sounds like the cycloid is not engaging. Great, I am stuck.

I wait until another friend comes home to give me some pointers. He says it is a cycloid and I need to pull a plug but I have to rip the council between the seats apart, Ok, rip apart the car, still not sure what I am doing, never done one before. My friend comes over and helps me, he disengages the cycloid but I also have a broken wire. Meantime, my DH, who gets home at 6:30 pm is home early in time to see the nice car that he just got half ripped apart. I tell him just don't look and go kayaking on the river. I would not have been able to fix it myself. Anyhow, he was happy that his car was fixed.

Today, I had an interview with a great company. I stopped at the beauty school to do my makeup and hair, nuts, it is cutting my time short and I have 15 minutes to go across town, I need to be there early. Get there, the interview goes ok, I do not do good on interviews. I am dressed for success. In a suit, hair done and makeup done. Fingers crossed.

My DD got accepted to the high school for choice that she wanted, Yes, but oh no because it is in the town that her dad lives in and he would like her to live there so that he wouldn't have to pay support.

Spent half of the afternoon in a courthouse. Just so much fun being a landlord. The woman was a night mare, finally settled but I am going to have another mess to clean up when she leaves.

I stress ate, but I grabbed a nice big bowl of blackberries that I have been picking.

Next interview next week. Either job would be so needed and great, fingers crossed.

Well, I'm impressed with your knowledge about cars and that you ripped it apart (even if someone else fixed it in the end).

Good for you for doing the first interview; that's an accomplishment all by itself. Good luck with both of them - I hope one of them results in a job. That would help with the stress, eh?

I wish you luck job hunting. Don't stress to much about the interview process. It can appear that you are over anxious. They are just people like you and know that most folks are nervous. A good tip would be to practice rehearse with someone else. Do some role playing. Contact your local unemployment office to see if they have a job group for assisting with resume writing, job interviewing skills, helo with job hunting and learning about area companies, know what questions could come up so you are already prepared.
Another tip I can offer is to write and practice a one line introduction about yourself. Like " Hi I'm Sheila with 12 years experience multi-tasking ready to organize your front office" or whatever fits your skills and opens the path for opportunity. Then start saying this to every new person you meet. It should just roll off your tongue.
And make your own business cards you can buy them from an office supply store and make on the computer. Put your name, contact info - cell phone, email address - and the job title that you want. Administrative Assistant, Bookkeeper, Personal Chef - whatever. Making you rown you can print just a few of each becasue you want to give it to whomever you interview with. Then afterwards, hand write a thank you note for their time and mail it the same day.
Good luck networking this way! emoticon

It is great to hear from you. It sounds like you had a crazy day or emotional roller coaster as you put it.

Good luck with the tenant and your daughter's school and DH's car.

Best wishes on the job interviews!

At least you got to enjoy some blackberries!

I fought the berry bushes and I am not sure who won.

Tuesday, August 23, 2011

I have been harvesting wild blackberries for about a week giving the berries a couple of days in between to ripen. Today we went out to my Uncle's patch. It is owned by a cousin and close to my uncle's house. I just imagined that my grandmother used to pick in the very same patch. Anyhow, the berry bushes were taller than I was and they bit me. I have scratches all over, the patch even pulled my hair. The scratches turned into welts. But the more I fought with the bushes the bigger the berries were. It seemed that the best ones were the most painful to get.

I made two pies when I got home and my DD ate 1/2 of one. In total, I canned 8 quarts, made three pies, packed a bunch for lunches for DH and DS ate hand fulls. Tomorrow I will free what I picked in the last two days and I expect to have 10 more quarts in the freezer. Sunday, after I heal and get my courage back, we are headed out there again.

My DH would go but I will be sending him down the river kayaking instead. He just gets wandering and gets so lost so easy, no sense of direction in the woods. I spend more time keeping track of him then I do picking. At least on the river, I know that he is safe and I can pick.

Oh yummy, yum, yum. I MISS blackberries. How good for you to have frozen so much!

Hope the scratches are gone as quickly as they came! :)

We've picked some blackberries this year but not enough. And they are such a literal pain to get.

I hope your scratches and injuries get better soon so you can get back out there!

The View, my view and the Amazing Race

Thursday, August 11, 2011

today, I watched an older episode of The View. I just started watching the show. The first part they brought out a pageant winner from South Carolina. The interesting part was that the winner weighted over 200 pounds at one time. It was inspiring to see the change in her, from size18 to a pageant winner. She lost 1/2 of her body weight and looks great. They showed a pair of jeans with her standing behind it. It was interesting that she started working out 15 minutes a day and grew the mentality that food is a fuel. (which is what I have been trying to convince myself of).

Being overweight, I am in a somewhat catch 22. In order to be able to lose weight I have to exercise, but I have to exercise with an extra 50 to 75 pounds more than the average weight person. Come to think of it, that should count as something. This would allow someone smaller to be able to exercise more and with proper form because they are not trying to bend around a stomach that despite it moves (bounces) when I don't want it to,but it will not move out of the way when I am trying to bend over, and exercising with a small child on my back.

Numbers-- Numbers seem to rule our life. Money, time, and weight is nothing more than numbers, but they still rule our life. I just got on the scale this morning. I am 212.5 pounds which is down from the 213.8 at the previous weight in. there is only 1.5 pounds different between the two numbers but it is encouraging because 212.5 is closer, in my mind to 210, which would be a major accomplishment but the 213.8 is closer to the 215 which I have been stuck at for a while and not as motivating . My thinking is I am now only about 10 pounds to being under that important 200 mark where the being closer to 215 makes the goal a little more difficult to obtain.

It is strange how numbers rule our life. Not the fact that I actually FEEL lighter, jeans are no longer fitting, in fact I had to go into a box of clothes that I got from someone which was headed to a garage sale so that I could get a pair of workout pants that would fall down so that I would be tripping or stepping on the bottom.

The Amazing Race, is a wii based challenge. By the way, if you are interested in joining as an alternate player, please join, we need alternate players. It is an absolute blast but you must have a wi, wiifit and the wii disc that came with the wii.

Anyhow, some of the challenges involve yoga or strength positions that are on the wii. Before the game, I never used these exercises, not really using the wii the way that I intended other than as a scale that records my ups and downs on weight.

I am not only doing the exercises but NOW I am doing them DAILY. Thank you --- emoticon Amyloulopez and perfectvelvet . emoticon for challenging me to do them. They are the wonderful woman that makes the Amazing Race possible and running smoothly. I knew that I needed the challenge, but didn't realize how much I needed the race. I hope that there will be another.

I know what you mean about the numbers. Sometimes it's hard not to let the number control us!

I don't have a WII but applaud you for finding something that works for you! That's the whole key to this exercise business, I've found. You have to find something that interests you or challenges you or else you'll quit.

Remember that pageant winner? She started with 15 minutes because that's all she could do at the time.

Start where you are. Just start. And then stay consistent. You'll find yourself in the One-der Club (out of the 200's) before you know it!

Applause and kudos to you!

why guys shouldn't have copiers.

Monday, August 01, 2011

I got this new toy a while ago but decided to play with it tonight. We picked up a copier/fax/scanner/printer for $14 at a garage sale. My DD was with us when we got it. The first words out of her precious mouth was "why get Ernie a copier? He doesn't need one." She is so right, just how right, I didn't find out until latter.

I went through some of his documents to get ready to scan. Really, does one person need three copies of the same thing? He doesn't look at them except if there is a problem, but three copies??

I am starting to scan in some of the documents and sorting them into folders that he can quickly locate something. I am finding duplicates of duplicates, He didn't just copy three but three more. pssst, just don't tell him but he is only getting one hard copy.

Strange thing, my Elkhound, which are known for shedding enough fur to make another dog, and running away given the chance, has been letting himself out my screen door. I messed up, not sure how because it latches. That isn't the strange thing, he is actually staying in the yard. He is 9 years old July 20th, my B-day also, I think that he is feeling his age also. He spent his first night outside, well he was forced to stay outside when he got too close to the skunk.

Too funny about all the copies. I guess it's better to have extra copies rather than none at all?

Hope your Elkhound no longer smells skunkish. emoticon

oh my aching body - graphic and nasty rant - warning

Saturday, July 30, 2011

My guy is from the other side of the state, he had a rental overthere since he lived there, but he knew that the kids would not be able to adjust, difficult divorce so he moved over here and now drives 70 miles one way to work instead of the 1 mile he used to. Anyhooww.

We rented to this couple, June 3, electricy was shut off. It was officially considered abandonded so we could clean and get rented out.

OMG this place is nasty. It is a two story farm house with an enclosed room off the back with a beautiful view and a huge old barn. If I get a job south of there, a larger city, we would move there because my DS is now 18.

Did I say OMG nasty??? I worked 5 hours cleaning the kitchen and part of the living room. The left food was nasty, 1/2 the fridge (shelves) were thrown out on a porch. First day got a pickup load.

The kitchen clean up stopped because of a dead snake in the kitchen. I know that we were in there for a hour and a half before we knew that it was there but we were focusing on the piles of garbage and finally uncovered it. My sister is just as scared. we called DH to remove it before work in that part would resume.

Oh, then the best part is I was piling the junk on one chair to load and somebody needed help lifting the washer onto the pickup. My sister finished the chair and found the other half of the snake. my DS took care of it.

My brother, nephew, sister and DS went with my brother's pickup and lowboy trailer with racks and my DS took our pickup went back. I got the upstairs cleaned, there were so many old heavy tvs and monitors and everything else, I was up and down those stairs at least 15 times, seriously. They left three couches and all mattress. Not fun throwing those on the top of a fully loaded trailer. We worked over 6 hours yesterday on the mess.

I still have more to get out, one more pickup to the landfill and one more to our house to store their stuff, landlord law is aweful. They move out, tie the place up for two months and I still have to store there stuff.

I have to clean out our garage, move all the other stuff, old lawnmowers which I am not sure why they are still there, other people's stuff that they left from other times and I would say my stuff, but we really don't have much of our stuff except my old dishwasher from my house out there. and we have a really big garage, it could fit 4 cars and I will be lucky if DH can get his in.

Sorry about so graphic. but how can people do this and I really haven't told the worse. Now I get to go unload.

Wow, Sheila, that is a ton of work. I know what you mean about some people and their lack of cleanliness. When my sister bought her house (a foreclosure sale), the walls were so filthy that her son and his friends (all high school age, so plenty of energy!) spent two days washing them. Who knew they were white!??!

Good for you, getting all that exercise, though, at least there is one upside to the situation!

Oh, being a landlord isn't a fun job when it comes to things like this. I feel for you. Sorry you had another encounter with a snake...or two halves of a snake. LOL! At least it sounds like you got a good workout.

that's a stupid law , I'm glad we don't have such thing. if you leave and don't take a thing with you it's obvious you don't want it anymore. how long must you keep that garbage? cause I suppose it's garbage . sorry to hear you had to go through this .I wish that landlord law would say that you have to leave the place clean. you don't have to tell the worse , I can imagine , we had that kind of people in our building , luckily the owners got tired to rent and moved here themselves. sorry about the snake thing : )

I just thought about it. I climbed around 15 flights of stairs. No wonder I was exhausted when I got home and lost almost 2 pounds in the last 2 days without watching what I ate.
