Saving on Groceries

Friday, April 17, 2009

I have found that keeping the freezer full of small freezer bags and containers of meats, vegetables bought in large size bags as well as freezing left-overs helps me take advantage of good sales, seasonal fresh foods, and it cuts down on the amount of food previously tossed out because he won't eat left-overs, vegetables, or soups. I bought a conversion blender and now am able to make my own creamy soups using not only the normal parts of vegetables but a lot of the time I can use the leafy parts also by blending. If you use fat-free condenced milk when making soups it not only cuts the fat and calories, but saves on the pocket book. Low sodium boullion is much better than regular and doesn't cost but a few cents more. The more foods you can make yourself, the more you can save. And I enjoy the challenge as well as the savings.

Finally Friday

Friday, April 03, 2009

I have totaled my reports for the week and am down on several things, but since I had surgery on Tuesday and there was a slight problem with my heart I still feel I did fairly well. I have lost a total of 10 lbs in the past month and am really pleased with that. No" Fads" just a lot of attention to detail and trying to eat right even when I wasn't the one cooking. I have a neighbor who out of the kindness of her heart prepared a couple of meals for me and I used a recipe (Spark) or two but just wasn't up to eating a lot for a couple of days. Of course I read several articles and did some quizzes and read blogs to pass time. Thanks for all the good information and help and support.

One handed strength training

Friday, March 27, 2009

Tuesday I am having surgery on my left wrist, nothing major, but it will be a challenge to keep up with my strength training. I am thinking about taping the band to my left forearm and seeig how that works. Dr. says two weeks til stitches come out and probably a couple more before I can really use my hand. I wonder if I will be able to grasp the band with the brace on. Dumb to get carpel tunnel in my left wrist when I am right handed. Anybody out there have any suggestions for me. Thank God I can use the mouse with my right hand and hunt and peck on the keyboard.

I took two of the quizzes today, cellulite and weight loss truths and myths. Can't say I did very well on either of them, but I certainly learned a bunch of good facts that I can easily apply to my own program. I sincerely hope everyone out there is doing well and staying motivated. Just reading different things on the site is doing me a whole world of good.

Two things

Tuesday, March 24, 2009

I read two things I want to comment on. First, cuddoes to the person who wrote in about the benefits of "coconut water" It really is great and easily obtainable. Try Health Food markets. So much better than "Gatorade" in my humble opinion.
Second, weighing in at 200+ I find it very offensive when anyone is criticized about their weight. No one except the person the insult is aimed at has a right to say anything EVER about someone's weight. Say as much as you wish about your own size but keep your lip zipped when it comes to someone else.
