Did I Do A Dumb Thing??

Sunday, August 22, 2010

Tomorrow is the final weigh-in for my non-SP weight loss competition over a I was one of 20 contenders for a $500 prize and a pair of COOL Earth Footwear shoes. Two gals were the grand prize winners so no longer in this consolation competition. Week after week, gals were eliminated for not following requirements of posting pictures of the scale, posting measurements on time, etc. We're down the final six or seven of us.

Now, my loss has not been spectacular but I thought I might have a shot at #2. So, decided to follow a formal "diet" plan and found "The 4 Day Diet" by Ian K Smith at Borders. I read it, got mentally prepped, did all the shopping, and started it on Friday as a final push.

Not so successful. It's a restrictive eating, low/mid calorie plan that requires a good amount of exercise (daily calorie intake anywhere from 650 to 1100/40 min cardio daily). I've been surprise that I've actually followed it, almost to the T. I've even tried the 2 TBL Psyllium Husk Powder in water/lemonade (which sounds scary, looks disgusting, but doesn't taste bad). This extra fiber is supposed to help in this cleansing phase but, really, I'm just bloated and feeling puffy. I have MAYBE lost 2 lbs but, unless something drastically changes by tonight, I don't think any major changes will show by my weigh-in and measurements tomorrow; I may even have GAINED inches in the waist due to the bloating. *Sigh* I think I'm not so smart.

Oh well. I needed to be more focused through the entire seven weeks; work, vacation, family celebrations, and just plain summer obviously took priority over this little competition. A couple of weeks ago, I was down 8.5 lbs and 6 inches; as of a few days ago, two of the gals have lost over 20#, one heavier than I/one lighter, so they've got the %%%. But you know what, I'll TAKE my losses, and keep pressing forward!

Not so sure about that Psyllium Husk Powder ... I'm now the proud owner of a BIG bottle ..... any takers???

You have made good progress and learned on the way what works for you and shat doesn't. Keep at it, even if you don't win the price, you are healthier for it!

You live and you learn. You should be proud of the progress you have made. After all, you aren't in this for a competition but to better your health and with the losses you've had, you are right on track! Keep up the great work and good luck with your journey! emoticon

8.5 lbs Lost~

Saturday, August 14, 2010

I've lost 8.5 lbs and six inches since the beginning of July, thanks to SparkPeople and The competition at Mamavation got my attention, their daily tweet requirement keeps my health goals at the forefront of my mind, and SparkPeople provides a great place for me track food and exercise PLUS is a great source of support, too.

It's week five of the seven week Mamavation campaign and I'm hopeful for more pounds and inches. I just received Kettlebells from CSN Stores and can't wait to see how my figure reacts to my new strength training routines.

I'm excited about two new teams I've joined .. SP Community Team and the BL Fall Challenge as a Turq' Titan. Can't wait!!

PLEASE HELP ME - I need nominations for WL contest

Thursday, July 01, 2010

I'm in the first round of selection for winning a spot in a virtual weight loss boot camp. Would you take a minute and comment on the site
to recommend me? Leave a comment about me, if I've ever done anything nice for you or anything else you can to recommend me, @ShawneeH.

I really want to take this summer and focus on getting myself AND THE FAMILY healthy. I took the first scary step of posting a video on YouTube and will be committed to posting weekly videos following my progress. I've started regular exercise again, eating healthier, and I would LOVE your help.

Thank you so much. I'll find out next week if I'm a finalist and then you might hear from me again. =)

Five Motivators

Thursday, March 04, 2010

Well, it's still Wednesday night here on the west coast and I have to hurry and meet my ITC challenge!

Five things that motivate me to make healthy choices:

1 - my daughter. She's 11 and I want to be a good example for her.
2 - my husband. He has SO much weight to lose. How can I ask him to lose 300 pounds when I struggle to give up ice cream?
3 - my energy level. I am so sluggish when I make unhealthy choices.
4 - the mirror. I am depressed by how old and frumpy I look and that's motivating me to change my habits.
5 - SparkPeople. The team challenges, the food journal, the scale ... if I eat it, I'll have to face it!

What motivates YOU??

My daughter motivates me, too. She's 12. :)
I have seen so many changes in my husband since I started SP. I really think that we lead by example, and even when we think it's not making a difference, it really IS. Don't give up!!
Old & frumpy ~ holy cow...I hear ya! Not YOU ~ ME!!!It's just tough getting older. I know the best thing we can do is eat right and exercise~ period.
I'm so glad you're a Lime. We can do this together!!!

The SPARK - Chapter 1 -- Chris' Story is Amazing!

Tuesday, January 05, 2010

I just received my book, The Spark, in the mail today and couldn't wait to get home from work to crack it open. I really had never heard about how SparkPeople got started and actually didn't spend much time thinking about it either. I've just been grateful for such a wonderful and FREE program.

I was moved to tears by founder Chris Downie's personal story, especially his story about co-worker Pat. I started choking up when she put up a "1" post-it on her door, to show she was starting to exercise. I lost it when he shared how he felt when first seeing Pat after six months of encouraging her long distance. His story made me want to start "streaking" again and I'm looking forward to Day One of a some new streaks.

I was shocked to learn that he earned so much from his online auction endeavor and then eventually invest over $5 million of his own money into making SparkPeople a reality. Wow. That is just incredible to me.

I can't wait to read more of this book, and re-connect with SparkPeople. This is the real deal.

I was also moved by gave me a renewed meaning and importance of streaks. Sometimes we go thru life doing what we are told, it kind of helps to know the story behind it

It's awesome, isn't it? Haven't read the book, but I've read interviews and stories about him. And it doesn't hurt that he's cute as he**, does it? emoticon

Have fun reading!
