5% Winter Challenge Week Two Check-In & February Goals

Yesterday was the start of the third week of the 5% Winter Challenge. I hit my goal for weight loss but not my workout minutes - it was a crazy and busy week. :-(

Here were my stats:

Starting Weight 1/25/2014: 189.4 lbs.
Current Weight 2/01/2014: 185.8 lbs. emoticon
Goal for Challenge: 182.2 lbs.

Overall in January, I lost a total of 10 pounds!!! I feel amazing. I'm looking to lose at least two more pounds this week. That will definitely put me on pace to smash the 5% challenge!!!

I had a great week in terms of eating. I think that tracking all of my meals was eye opening and helped me make sure I was eating healthy foods and staying within my calorie intake. This week, out challenge is to stay within our sodium limits (2300 mg per day) which is hard for me. So this is another one that will allow me to become more mindful of what I'm putting into my body.

At the beginning of the year I also set personal monthly goals for myself and here are mine for February:

Complete the 30-Day Arms Challenge
Complete the 30-Day Ab & Squat Challenge
Replace one meal with a green smoothie each day.
Use one new fruit or veggie per week in the smoothies.
Read a new book.

I already know that since today is the SuperBowl I'm going to have a hard time sticking to calorie limits - well at least with the sodium and carbs.

5% Winter Challenge Week Two Check-In

Saturday was the start of week two of the 5% Winter Challenge. I hit my goal of a two pound weight loss for the week:

Starting Weight: 191.8 lbs.
Current Weight: 189.4 lbs. emoticon
Goal for Challenge: 182.2 lbs.
Personal Goal for the Challenge: 176.8 lbs.

In addition, my goals were to increase my water intake to 10 glasses per day - which I did accomplish!! emoticon

This week, our challenge is to track everything we eat and to of course continue our water intake. This task has always been challenging for me especially at night. I seem to track my breakfasts, lunches and snacks but completely forget about dinner. This will definitely make me more conscious about what I eat in the evening so I'm excited.

This week I want to accomplish another two pounds. So by Saturday morning, I hope to be down to at least 187.4. I'm sure that I will be able to accomplish this - I'm determined. Last week I only worked out 238 minutes so I want to increase that to at least 300 minutes. I'm doing really well with my eating - I've cooked all of my meals and haven't had fast food so I'll on the right track. This challenge is really helping me focus.

I have about four or five pairs of jeans that I haven't been able to wear - I accidentally bought the size I thought I was…I want to be able to wear them within a few weeks. emoticon

Let's go Teddy Bears. emoticon

5% Winter Challenge - Week One

Today is the first day of the 5% Winter Challenge and I was placed on the Teddy Bears team. It is an eight-week challenge and the goal is to lose 5% of your body weight while developing healthy lifestyle habits. While I hope to lose more than my five percent, here are the challenge goals:

Starting Weight: 191.8 lbs.
5% Amount: 9.59 lbs.
Goal/Ending Weight: 182.21 lbs.

My goal for the first week of the challenge is to lose 2 pounds and to increase my water intake to 10 glasses per day. In addition, I plan to workout at least 6 days between today and Friday of next week. The good thing is that I already walk about 1.25 miles per day to and from work so that will give me an extra boost.

My personal goal is to lose between 12-15 pounds throughout the entire challenge. I'm looking to get into the 170s. I have a college reunion coming up in April so I want to definitely try to look my best.

I'm excited about the journey that I'm about to embark on with my fellow Teddy Bears. We are going to be amazing and I'm already proud of us for taking the first steps to living a healthier lifestyle.

Jillian Michaels Curves Review

My Curves coach surprised us all by starting the Jillian Michaels' routine yesterday instead of on the 15th when she originally planned to. Either way I was pumped!! emoticon

Ok, so the gist of the program is that Jillian is giving you exercises that you would typically do on your 'cardio' stations/boards. So instead of the jogging in place or whatnot, you would do the exercises that Jillian presents. Now since most of us are on the Curves Smart program it will most likely take us time to get the timing down. Luckily, the video has Jillian do the exercises twice in a row so if you are doing your resistance machines during the first 30 seconds, you have the second 30 seconds to actually complete the exercise. Again, getting the timing down will be tricky since you must stay on your resistance machines for a minimum of 30 seconds. This however encouraged me to move from station to station as quickly as possible and kept my heart rate up.

Jillian's exercise included: Jumping Jacks, High Knees, Butt Kicks, Lunges, Squats, Planks, Obliques, Standing Crunches, Push Ups, and the Skater Move. (I'm sure I'm missing a couple). In the video, she also provides modifications so nearly every fitness level can benefit from the program.

I can honestly say that m heart rate was through the roof and I worked up a great sweat. I can't wait to see the differences in my fitness level at the end of this month. When her new workout comes out in a month, I'll do a new review. So far I'm impressed and thankful that Curves is showing some initiative in bringing us new incentives and ways for us not to plateau.

I believe that this is a great addition to Curves!! emoticon

January 12th Check-In

I wanted to check-in with you all and provide an update.

I started a new job on January 6th which is turning out to be one of the biggest blessings of all time. Since this job is downtown and traffic/parking is horrendous and expensive, I have been taking the MetroRail downtown and then walking 7 blocks to work. I am now using a pedometer and I'm walking an extra 2,000 steps as a result of these extra 14 blocks that I walk each day (about 30 minutes total). Originally I thought that I would hate this, but I actually look forward to this extra amount of exercise each day. This along with my sessions at Curves has allowed me to see a noticeable difference in the strength of my lower body. I'm excited for this week at Curves because we start the Jillian Michaels program at my club on the 15th!!!

I've also been eating pretty well. I need to get better at tracking this here though. Thankfully my workplace has a fully stocked kitchen and the majority of the food is EXTREMELY healthy. Plenty of fruits and vegetables are available at all times of the day. I've been drinking nothing but water and I can see the difference in my skin already.

I also want to plug the Winter 5% Challenge Community team. It starts on January 18th and we are all committing to lose 5% of our body weight in 8 weeks. This challenge will provide extra motivation for me especially since I'm trying to get into the 160s by April for my five year college reunion. I'm loving the direction that I'm going in as far as exercise and dieting. I just feel better and I appreciate all of the support that I am receiving from the SparkPeople community.

My lifestyle changes have already paid off on the scale…I'm already into the 180s which surpasses my personal goal for the month.

    So a bad thing (expensive parking) turned out to be a good thing (14 blocks walking, that's about a mile and a half) Keep up the good work and enjoy your walks
