Out of town but not out of Spark motivation

Once again I will be going 200 miles out of town for a medical appointment tomorrow and have to get up around 4am. There is a great route I take Pooch on, she likes it, I like it, so even though I won't be on the pages here, I won't be out of commission.
Did a new Zumba DVD and just about had my a** kicked. I am sure the phrase "tight assed white woman" refers to me because I still can't manage to move my arms in one direction and legs and hips in another/. The best part is that I haven't quit, and periodically go back and do the first DVD in an attempt (which I can measure in tiny Zumba steps) and find that I am not as clumsy as I was the first time I did it.

Big Stressors need Big Planning

I had an appointment that I had known about for over a month, and as the time grew closer, my prior "bad" habits became more prevalent. After the appointment I drove straight to the nearest grocery store and bought some of the sweetest, stickest, highest fat content junk food I could find. Fortunately I had enough control to buy the smallest portion available instead of buying a whole cake or dozen doughnuts.
Lesson learned" big stressors need big planning. Carrying cheese sticks, measured portions of fat free bagel chips, two bottles of water. Flavored sugar free chewing gum is a good option and fills the need to chew, and matches the dessert it is made to mimic with only five calories a stick.
I think part of the bigger picture is recognizing the need to excersise more before the event, and visualize positive outcomes instead of getting wrapped up in what 'could" happen, I had been using those same negative responses for so long that at least noting them, and planning for more positive outcomes and recognizing the desire to replace those negative habits with more positive ones is a strong beginning.

Great Morning

The weather is fantastic this morning so pooch and I took a power walk. I carried some tips from my former trainer which add effort without feeling like it. I wear 2lb weights around each ankle. Place a piece of tape between my shoulders to remember to stand up straight and hold by abs tight. Do modified interval walking-100 steps at a faster rate than I normally walk, then 50 steps at my "regular" rate (counting steps instead of time makes it easier than continually looking at a watch). Always, remember the sunscreen (I use either SPF 70 or 100 on my face, 50 pn my forearms, and leave the area from my shirtsleeve to my elbow without any to absorb the essential vitamin D with less risk of wrinkles or skin cancer on my face, and less signs of aging on my hands and forearms. Within 15 minutes of returning home, eat a snack of 25 grams of protein that has no carbs and less than 5 grams of fat. Hope any of these hints are useful for anyone else using walking as one of their fitness routines. 50yrs-50lbs (Shaun's nickname) emoticon emoticon

emoticon I used to beable to set up my VCR with no problem. Now I have cable and a Wii hooked up and don't have much idea of how to straighten these cords back in order. There is a commercial for a Pilates chair on which seems llike it would be wonderful to use every other day along with the Zumba. Money is an issue right now, so I will put ay work into the ZUMBA!     I've read both of your blogs and I can see that you are excited to start. Your positive attitude towards the exercise is refreshing and should serve you well here. I've heard that Zumba is a lot of fun. If you can make your workouts fun, then it is so much easier to do them. I wish you great success with your goals.
