CHALLENGE WEEK 1

Friday, March 12, 2010

My fellow LADY BUGS and I started a 5% Weight Loss challenge last Saturday and this first week has been tremendous. We started out doing crunches as our first challenge and even when it was complete several of us decided to keep the crunches ongoing throughout the whole eight weeks of the challenge. This group is unbelievable in their own initiative but even more so in their encouragement for each other. We are now on our water challenge and we are over half way chugging along. If this week is any indication of what the next seven will be, I've got a lot to look forward to from all these BUGS.

emoticonThe Lady Bug team is downright fun!!! The participants are gracious, filled with lots of desire to do the best they can, and more than willing to get in there and go to pages, blogs, etc...it's really exciting to be part of a team like this once again and I am truly grateful!

The leadership is terrific too! I just couldn't ask for a better way to get back in the swing of things!

Go Lady Bugs!!! emoticon

REVAMPING

Wednesday, March 10, 2010

Are you guilty? I certainly am. I love watching the FOOD Channel with all the various cooking shows and challenges. But I have become obsessed, some would say, with automatically revamping the recipes in my mind. For example, this week one show was making a homemade chicken noodle soup. Full of carrots, celery, and using chicken breast, but they said to use 4 tablespoons of oil to sauté the veggies to soften them up before adding all the ingredients. I said that's ridiculous, you don't need to use that much oil. My husband just shook his head. Then there was the chicken broth, could use the low sodium and it would taste just as good. Another show was fixing a great looking salad with avocado and watercress and a few other veggies, but then they put 8 strips of bacon in it and at least 3 or 4 tablespoons of additional oil. And we're talking a salad for approximately 4 people.

I've always cooked and guess until now would "follow the directions" in preparation. However, since really getting serious about making lifestyle changes in my eating habits, I have become acutely aware of ways to "defat" recipes. Don't get me wrong, using a little bacon, etc., is ok, but to get the flavor you don't have to weigh it down.

Anyway, I hope I have some fellow revampers out there. I hate to be all alone!

Thank you for sharing your revamping story. I do this with recipes people will share with me. My sister has even started doing some revamping because she is learning it from me. Yeaaa! She is older than me. I am teaching her something. But I am still in a learning phase and I am sure will be there the rest of my life. emoticon

I am a revamper, especially when I watch Rachael Ray, her recipes are great, but way too much EVOO for me, I usually use 1/4 to 1/2 the amount she uses. I think that the food network needs more shows that focus on healthier eating.

I don't usually watch food shows, but I do read the recipes in magazines and I read cookbooks. My mother started years ago by substituting yogurt for sour cream, she has been working at it ever since. She even writes her healthy "revamping" substitutions in her cookbooks. I thought she was nuts, and as an adult I went back to sour cream, now I know better. I know to saute in a little water or a spritz of olive oil... you really don't need much. I am modifying favorite recipes all the time. It is a good habit to have.
Have you ever watched any of Graham Kerr's cooking shows? He likes to revamp recipes.
Blessings!

WHAT A DAY

Tuesday, March 09, 2010

Started day with the Wii Fit and then crunches. Ahh, and then Day 4 for Week 1 (repeating wk1) for the C25K. I ran/walked outside for the first time and there was a difference. It was a little bit more taxing, but I did make it through to the end. But if I had any doubt about repeating Week 1, I know it was the right thing to do now.

Then, this afternoon, I had my interview, 3 hours worth. I think it went well, but they have a few more interviews to do, so it'll be about two weeks before I know. Keep me in your prayers.

Well, full day, but a good one. Have a great rest of the week everybody!

I NEED TO TRY CLOTHES ON WHILE SHOPPING

Monday, March 08, 2010

OK, that sounds like that would be common sense, right? I guess I'd gotten in such the habit of checking out jackets but not necessarily pants/skirts, I just acted on autopilot. Here's what happened.

I have a job interview tomorrow and I went this weekend to find a new suit (skirt/jacket) for the interview. Well, I have those wonderful wave good-bye arms (you know what I'm talking about, when you raise your arm to wave bye, that lovely extra flesh that hangs and waves bye too) so I always make sure the jacket fits well in the arms. I finally found an outfit, checked out the jacket, fit well AND was a size smaller than I had been wearing. Well, I looked at the skirt and thought about how my pants were fitting and decided to get the skirt in a size smaller too. WELLLLLL, it's too big!!!!!! Yes too big. I've went down two sizes in skirts since the first of January. So who cares if the scale is acting weird right now and doesn't seem to be reflecting the workouts and healthy eating I'm doing. This old BOD sure is! emoticon

So an encouragement to all of us who are ready to take a hammer to that scale, go try on some clothes and see what size you are now. HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY!

I am in between sizes, so NOTHING fits right at the moment! It is good to feel the looseness of my clothes but frustrating not to fit into the next size down!

Thanks for adding me as a friend! I added you too!

LONG SUNDAY

Sunday, March 07, 2010

This has been a long day. Good, but long. Attended church this morning and evening and granddaughter's birthday party in between. Did well at the party (I'm not big on cake and ice cream, buttered bread and fried chicken are my downfalls) I had an apple. Got 100 crunches in this evening when I got home from church for our challenge and then started my Sparking time. About to finish that up and head to bed. Think I'll sleep well tonight, very tired. Everybody have a great week!!
