Alternatives to Valentine's Candy Gifts

If most of you are like me, the coming holiday normally would include receiving a gift of candy and possibly flowers. While I'm not a sweetaholic I do enjoy chocolate and just don't want the temptation (can't eat just one), so this year I've told my husband instead of candy and/or flowers if he's really set on getting me a Valentine's gift, I'd like one of the workout DVDs I've been wanting. He liked the idea 'cause he knows he's getting me something I really want and will probably get out cheaper.LOL

Thought I'd share this idea with you in case you had the same predicament as me.

    Good idea. I definitely don't want chocolate this year and we've been trying to stick to a slashed budget as well, so this year we asked each other "What would make you feel happy and loved?" Neither of our responses cost anything.
I want him to 'tickle' (softly rub) my back and braid my hair. He wants me to give him a massage, cook dinner with him and open a bottle of wine his brother sent us from California.
Sounds perfect to me!

    I think Itunes gift cards are perfect too! Depending on your device, you can upload music, podcasts, movies, shows etc and use them to work out, meditate, or just entertain!

Working Out Can Be Fun

I have happily found that working out does not have to be boring drudgery. I've been working out with my Wii Fit since the first part of January. The time flies by and before I know it, I've worked out for 30 minutes or more. I had my doubts about truly being able to work out using the Wii, but I was pleasantly surprised. My heart rate gets up, I work up a sweat and I'm having a ball doing it.

This is one time I don't think I have to worry about trying to come up with excuses not to work out. I actually look forward to it and find myself sometimes going back later in the evening to do some more activities.

I feel good about getting active and staying active this time. Good luck to all of us.

    Thank you so very much for your comment on my blog and letting me know about yours too. This is just way too funny. I thought someone might laugh at me about the wii. But I didn't care. I am so glad you are having a great time too. I never realized how much fun it is. 2 hours can pass sometimes before I know it. Also have you checked out the calorie burn. I got to relive some teenage fond memories tonight and got a little exercise in too. Danced to The Who's music during the Super Bowl half-time. So good, so fun!!

    The Who is my husband's favorite band so he was more interested in the half time show this year. He looked up their ages. Roger Daltry will be 66 and Pete Townsend will be 67. I hope I'm still that active at that age!

1st Week on SP Completed

I "came back" to SP last Friday after a non-participating period of almost 2 1/2 years. I have seen in this last week not only how much time I wasted, but all the resources and new friends I missed out on til now.

Weight lost this week wasn't what I wanted, but at least it was negative. I changed my lifestyle to a more healthy focus back on 01/09/10 and have lost a total of 15.3 lbs so that's not too bad in four weeks. I'm losing inches and my clothes are fitting better. And best of all, my husband told me today he can tell I'm losing weight. It's always a booster for someone to notice.

With that said, I'm ready to tackle week 2 and take it a day at a time. Have a great next week everyone.


WOW Looks Like The "Get 'Em Down" Mindset is Strong Today

I was getting ready to do my blog entry for today and decided I'd look at a few of my fellow Sparkster's blogs first. WOW, did a large percentage of us get hit with the self doubt/possible self sabotaging bug today? My blog to begin with was going to be about how I felt a little down because I didn't think things were moving as fast as I thought they should. I'm doing everything right to transform my lifestyle into the healthy realm it should be, so why is it not showing as strongly as I think it should?

Then I read the other blogs and to tell you the truth I got a little ticked off about the way a lot of us are feeling today. AND I refuse to feel defeated. We are exercising more and some of us consistently for the first time. We are revamping the way we eat to be healthier. We are seeing results in a number of ways - feel better, clothes fit better, look better, you insert your "better". We have a lot to be proud of and need to relish it and SP I'm finding is a wonderful place to help us realize this and help squash the "down" thoughts.

Also, I believe a lot of us used our weight as our excuse or crutch for not doing or achieving something in our lives. I know this is true of me. As we lose this weight, many of us are having to face new challenges that never faced us before and we're having to learn new skills that weren't needed until people started taking notice of us. SP gives us a great forum to find and learn these skills and share experiences we each other.

I have a long road ahead to get to my goal weight, but I know I have a mountain of resources available to me here at SP in people and print and I hope to make full use of them.

So, in ending this blog, I guess my main point here is don't give up. Many of us have put too many things on hold and it's time to push ahead and GO FOR IT.
