This is the reaction my husband says he gets from most of the people that have asked him what kind of diet I'm using to lose weight. It's funny how it seems some people are afraid to ask me about my weight loss, but they feel more comfortable asking him. Anyways, he tells them I'm not on a diet, I eat what I want but in moderation. He also tells them I'm tracking my food on SP and exercising regularly.

I've decided that one thing I want to get across to friends and family members is a diet won't work. You'll get tired of it or feel overly stressed and give up. But look at it as making a lifestyle change. You work toward being aware of what you're doing, whether it's what you eat or what activity you are doing or not doing. You learn that every day is not going to go exactly as planned, but you get past that and continue. You don't beat yourself up over every slip. You make sure you surround yourself with supportive people; either face-to-face or online. Above all, you make this lifestyle change for YOU!

So, I'll just keep hubby doing the public relations and I'll concentrate on the strengthening the lifestyle changes. WOOHOO

It's always good when people ASK you what you are doing. It means they notice a change.

I get comments like that all the time. People ask me what I am doing, then act like they don't want to hear that I am "just" exercising and eating healthy, whole foods. I have never been on a "diet" and know that this is the only way to take the weight off and keep it off!

I did it. I ran my first 5K today. Actually had to walk the hills but pretty much ran the rest.

After sweltering heat in the mid 80's the last few days, I woke to low 50's this morning. Thank you Lord! My husband went with me as support. It's a good thing, because I was rather nervous. My stomach was queasy and I thought oh great I'm going to throw up, but calmed down once we got there.

There were people of all ages from 8 to somewhere in the 70's. We went to the starting line and were off. Since this was my W8D3 on the C25K, I used my podcast to do my run. Hills are not my thing at this time, so those got walked. Even with this I was not at the back of the pack for the runners (woohoo). By the time my podcast ended I was within 1/2 mile of the finish line.

I had told my husband if I could do it within 55 mins I would be happy. Well, I did it in 44:30. Yeah, less than 15 min mile, and to think two months ago I couldn't run one minute without thinking I was going to die. Like another Sparkster wrote in her blog today about her first run, I was overcome with emotion and teared up. This was something I would have never thought I'd be able to do. So now, I'm looking for my next run and planning on working on my endurance (especially for those hills)!

If there is something you've always thought you'd like to try, don't let your weight keep you from it. And by all means don't think you have to wait til you lose ?? pounds. As long as your doctor doesn't restrict you, start enjoying new activities NOW!

emoticon you did great! I did my first 5K on Saturday too and luckily no hills, I did still have to walk a few times but was pleased with my time at 39:42. Just finished week 9 of the C25K program but will continue to work on the longer runs. Keep up the good work!

4 Month Update

Friday, May 07, 2010

Today is the four month mark since I started my healthier lifestyle. So first the numbers:

Down 42.6 lbs
Waist down 4 inches
Hips down 5.25 inches
Blood Pressure is wonderful average 111/66

Energy level is great
Have almost finished the C25K program - my first 5K is tomorrow!
Clothes fit better - into a size 18 in most clothes

Running capri & top
New Asics Gel running shoes
Exercise Bike (this was to be the 50 lb reward, but it went on sale $120 off and hubby was going to use it too, so got it)

Going Forward:

My weight loss goals are in 10 lb increments. I call it getting into the next decade. So currently I'm working on getting into the 220's. Wow, just typing that number is incredible.
At 50 lbs I'll post an update picture.

I have another 5% Challenge starting tomorrow. My goal is to, at least, lose 5% of my body weight during the next 8 weeks. I believe with the better weather, there'll be more time for outdoor activity, which I'm learning I really love.

I plan to run another 5K in June. Personally, it will be in celebration of the big 50 for me that month.

Well, another update after the 8 week challenge. Here's to more of life and less of constraints.

A Trouble Goal

Thursday, May 06, 2010

In my Stage 3 of Action Steps today, blogging about a "trouble goal" was advised. I had no trouble coming up with what mine is. I don't have trouble getting my water in, I love veggies and fruit so that's not a problem, getting my exercise in is pretty good, but getting up in the mornings is a problem.

I know how it started. The company I worked for sold and my job ended the last of December this past year. Since I turned eighteen, I have always worked. While attending college, I worked full-time, cared for my three children, and graduated with honors. The only time away from work was maternity leave. So, the first few weeks were sorta' like an extended vacation, but as job opportunities didn't surface or interviews didn't pan out into job offers, my "reason" for getting up in the mornings dwindled.

I have been working on this trouble goal, and now this action step is reason to spur me on to achieving it. While working (in the accounting field) I had a schedule - period closings, weekly meetings, cost analysis duties, etc. So, I'm going to work up a schedule for my time now. I'll include job-hunting, job-interviews, exercise time, church activities, family time, Spark time, etc.

So, beginning tomorrow, I'll have obligations I've set for myself that need to be achieved in a given time period. That means get up and start the day by 7 a.m. and move on from there. Now, if I get blessed with a job soon, that day will have to start around 5 a.m. But for now, starting the day at 7 a.m. will be a great improvement over my current time.

See you in the morning!

I have so much trouble getting up in the morning and I have an annoying job to go to. When I was unemployed, I suspect it was worse except that I had to put in hours doing job searching on weekdays and took the weekends off.

You can do It. And if you would like a little help, I can check in with you in the mornings.
I get up early to write in my journal and drink a cup of coffee, post that I'm up and start exercising. Since I got Walk It Out, just want to play.

Decided to set my goals for May in writing. More committing than just saying what I want to see happen this month!

Lose 10 lbs
Lose 2 inches off waist
Lose 2 inches off hips

Continue my C25K program and still run at least 30 minutes 3-4 times a week after program completion

Run a 5K (signed up for Sat, May 8th)

Ride exercise bike at least 20-30 minutes 5-6 days a week

Walk outdoors 2-3 days a week

Strength training at least 3 times a week

Eat within my SP calorie range at least 6 days a week

Hmmm, think that's a good doable list. So, I'll keep you updated on progress.
