Sometimes I wish I could bottle up the energy I get before TOM and ration it out during the month. I get this insane desire to cook and clean that's even surprising to me. I've noticed this pattern happening for the last 6 months.

With the cooking I challenge myself to see what I can cook up with things on hand in my pantry and refrigerator and stay on the healthier side. The added fact that we are also on a tighter grocery budget pushes me to this challenge also. This is actually fun at times. Not all meals are a hit but then I tell my family they are lucky I tried at all! I've learned to cook by trial and error, using cookbooks, cooking shows, and the internet is a great source of finding recipes very quickly.

Then I become insane with the house cleaning. This all usually lasts for a week maybe longer. What I'm trying to figure out is how to put that energy into a really great workout. I do exercise but it is mostly sporadic. Not that housecleaning doesn't burn calories and it does need to be done. But taking care of my body is also very important. If I'm going to reach my goal by this round of BLC I need to push the exercise. Calorie wise I am doing very well most days and I do allow a day here and there where I'm not so restrictive. It just seems that as I age it gets harder to lose so I really want to get things done now.

So today I cleaned and I cooked. Dinner was great. Everybody was happy. But I was in an emotional funk. I know it's the hormones but I still just wanted to bust out crying feeling like I'm not appreciated, life couldn't get any worse blah blah blah. This weather doesn't help either. So I am treating myself to a glass of wine, snuggle up with hubby and watch a movie, and try to get over this moodiness. I'm sure tomorrow will be a better day!

I feel better already!

I found that yelling at myself while exercising, makes me do more! My cats and husband eyeba;; me funny but.. then..

What about incorporating into your ceaning. Use the bustling to do walking lunges, make sure you squat when lifting and do 5 at a time before you actually pick up the item!


maybe you can hook up a solar panel to your self and keep it charged up!!

    I'm there today for sure! Normally, russ does all of the house work except what crazy stuff i come up with on the weekends. but normally, he has the dishes done, he makes me coffee and breakfast everyday and this morning he didn't want to get out of bed and it flat out pissed me off.

    Is that my problem? Today I cleaned the whole house and cooked a fabulous dinner and still have veggies roasting in the oven for tomorrow. Come to think of it TOM is just around the corner. I guess that is the only perk. Enjoy your wine, hubby, movie and relax, It's only life and nobody gets out alive! LOL

BLC - BOWLS Challenge

BOWLS Challenge


In honor of the upcoming NFL Super Bowl, the BLC Sister Teams are proud to bring you the BOWLS Challenge. This challenge will begin this Friday, February 5 at 12:01 AM and run until Monday, February 8 at 11:59 PM

B: Bed, 7 hours of sleep each night. 5 points per night.

O: Oxygenate the blood, as in cardio. 5 points per 30 minutes, not to exceed 20 points a day.

W: Watch the calories. Stay in your range. 5 points per day.

L: Limit sodium. Keep it under 2300 mg a day. 5 points per day.

S: Strength training. 5 points for every 25 moves, not to exceed 20 points a day.

NOTE:
For the S points, if a move is done using only one side of the body (like a bicep curl), both sides must be done 25 times to get the 5 points. However, if it is a move that uses both side at the same time (like a squat) you don't have to do 2 sets of 25.

The winner of the challenge will be the sister team duo with the highest average score per participating members.

Back on the wagon.....

Okay so today I really thought and thought about how I am going to work out but kept letting everything distract me from it. I've had a lot of stresses in my life the last couple of months that I've let get in the way of me working out.

So today I put on my big girl pants, grabbed my ipod and water bottle and headed downstairs to do some cardio. Luckily I do have cardio machines down there so why am I not using them? Because I have been lazy and uninspired. First I thought let's have a go on the elliptical. I have to tell you that I have a love/hate relationship with that thing! I love it but when I am on it I HATE it! LOL! So after 5 minutes of that I moved on to my recumbent bike. Much better! I was going for 30 minutes and wanted to hit 10 miles within that time. I didn't so it took me another 5 minutes to reach that and I'll tell you what...... I FEEL GREAT! The whole time while listening to Lady GaGa and her pumping me up I was thinking why haven't I been doing this sooner? Doesn't matter. I am doing it now!

With having said that I am feeling much more inspired!




So tonight we are going out dancing and am looking forward to burning more calories.

p.s. I will have a few drinks but I will stick to light beer and water.

P.S. I HATE my elliptical too!! Cant do more than 5 minutes. Hubby "had to have it" $1200......nice one.....but now his "knees" bother him so he cant do it...Put it on me why dont cha??? UGH!!! emoticon

    Shar, I don't know why we avoid doing the things that make us feel better, but that seems to be a pattern in my life. Especially when things are hard - why exercise and eat well and feel better? It's the little devilita in my brain! I'm glad you were able to knock her out of the way and move forward. I know you've had some hard stuff going on and hope it is getting better - starting with getting a GREAT job! Good luck today on your interview!!!

Two Year Sparkiversary!

I've just completed my second year here at spark. The third year will be a charm.... I just know it! Just a few months ago I was only 5 lbs away from my goal weight. 5 lbs! I knew that last 5 would be the hardest but then the holidays came around and I kind of let go. Also with the added stress of the crappy economy and the idea of having to go back to work took it's toll on me and I gained another 5 on top of that from senseless eating. I just sort of gave up for awhile there. So now my second sparkiversary just passed and made me think of what I want to accomplish this year. I WILL lose the 5 I've gained over the holidays and work on the last 5 lbs. The last 5 I've decided that if I don't lose them completely I will tighten and tone and turn them into muscle! Because maybe just maybe I'm not meant to be at that weight anymore at this age. I must be realistic..... I will be 45 this spring..... not 25!

Still this past year was a tricky one for me. I managed to put on 11 pounds over what I weigh now and that was 2 pounds less than my highest pregnancy weight ever! That was a total eye opener. My cholesterol, blood pressure and all that stuff went way up too. I knew I had to lose it since family history reminded me of what can happen if I didn't take care of myself. If I don't take care of myself then I can't take care of the others who depend on me and I want to be there for them. So time to get working on a healthier and fitter ME!


This is me over 4 years ago below my current goal weight. I really dieted down the month before to attend this wedding and I still felt heavy. Now I would be happy to even be near that weight!

    Happy anniversary, again!!!!! 2 years is good, but your 3rd year will be your best, so far (and better every year after that, of course!).

DAILY CHALLENGES (Complete all 3 each day, 1 point each):
1 - Be within your calorie range (1-point)
2 - Drink 8+ glasses water, or calorie free fluids (incl in Tracker) (1-point)
3 - 30+ minutes cardio and/or Strength training per day (unless its a rest day) (1-point)

OVER THE WEEK CHALLENGES (Select 2 each day, 1 point each):
4 - Try a new food or a new recipe (PLEASE share with the team)
5 - Do a new Spark workout video, or home video, or new to you exercise… 2 or more times!
6 - Set 3 or more goals for the week ASAP (2 that are daily, 1 weeklong. Can set more as desired).

GOAL SETTING --
1 - Daily goal - eat breakfast
2 - Daily goal - get to sleep no later than midnight
3 - Weekly goal - do 30 minutes cardio minimum 3 x week

POINTS:
-5 points/day for completing the 3 daily challenges, and 2 of the weekly challenges .

    Shar, those are good goals, but they are not really measurable... Might I suggest putting a value on them, like spending X amt of time on-line; get to bed by XX:XX, & getting X amt of cardio?? Of course, since you're Lavender, I would suggest setting high goals!!
