I "Get" The Spark

Friday, March 15, 2013

I have read the Spark People book before but recently got the abridged version from the library on CD to listen to while commuting. It really gave me a boost to know that most of the suggestions from the book I am working on or already have incorporated into my life. One of the biggest things that stuck out for me is to be prepared, and I will set aside time daily to get things ready for the gym, and for planning and preparing meals.

I have been a member of SP since 071904 and I am a little embarrassed to admit that it has taken me almost 9 years to ‘get it’. I do understand now what to do during challenges and will continue with my journey to a healthier, happier way of life. I owe this to myself and my family and will never give up.

Baring my belly and happy New year!

Monday, January 02, 2012

I watched the Dr. Oz show today and it was all about woman and belly fat. This was very relevant for me as it is my one major issue with my body, and it was inspiring to see all the woman showing their bellies on national television. I don't think I am quite ready to do that, but I can not hide the fact that my belly looks like I am ready to give birth. I also have a distorted view of my belly, and I know a picture would help me realize just how big it is. So here goes, my belly in it's full glory: and my belly from the side:

My plan is to follow Dr. Oz's tips and post new pictures of my belly every month. If interested, here is a link to the tips Dr. Oz shared today:

Susan, that was very brave of you to "put it out there", so to speak. I wish you good luck and look forward to seeing you post new pics as well as checking in on the team page. We really need to get together sometimes. Fifty miles is too close not to. Glad to see you again in the group post !! emoticon

    You are brave!

Thank you again for sharing the inspirational story of the caterpillars who chose to become butterflies! I have "Hope for the Flowers" propped up in the window behind my laptop so I see it frequently. :)

That is a good idea. You are also very brave and encouraging! It's hard for me to even look at myself in the mirror. I think when I am able to get my camera working I will do the same thing. I watched the biggest loser and seeing them slowly lose the weight with the before and after picks are amazing. I think you are going to be great and I know you can do it. :)

LIfe Is Simply Amazing!

Sunday, August 14, 2011

Last night, I attended a Celebration of Life for a young woman (36) who attended our church, who passed away from cancer last month. She had been battling cancer for 8 years, yet every time I saw her, she wore a big smile on her face. She displayed the light and love of God. She never complained, and always lived her life to the fullest. At the end of the service, people released butterflies and it was so uplifting and inspirational. I know she would not want us to mourn, or waste one minute of the precious gift of life we have been given.

Thank you Lisa for being an angel on Earth, and I thank God that you are not hurting anymore. I will live each day remembering your anagram, "Life Is Simply Amazing"!

Wow. Inspired. (Where do you get butterflies to release? Did someone have to go out and catch them all first?) What church do you go to in Austin? I know several there.

It is obvious this young woman was a true blessing that God shared with us, albeit too short of a time.

How sad for those who remain, to live without her, but a joy at the same time to look forward to seeing her again!

The weight loss countdown begins and random thoughts from weekend

Monday, January 31, 2011

I have started a weight loss goal countdown ticker on FB to keep me motivated to continue with my fitness program. I have it set for my 43 birthday next February, so that gives me a year to reach my goal.

I got the call that I have been accepted to participate in the study on depression. I start on Wednesday and it will be interesting to see if I lost any more weight this past week. I also got invited to attend a women’s retreat with 40 women from our small church this Friday through Saturday afternoon. It should be a fun and uplifting time, and we have been asked to bring sweets. I am going to bring fruit salad.

I was trying to remember the last time I got dressed up for my husband, and I honestly could not remember. DH is a good man, we have had our ups and downs, and he has always been there for me when it matters the most. I decided to do something nice for myself and for him and made a nice dinner. While it was cooking, I went and took a bath and even shaved my legs. Then I picked out a skirt and blouse and fixed my hair, put on makeup and heels! He was surprised when he saw me, then DH helped me get our DS a bath and it was a nice dinner date at home. I want to do this more often! emoticon

Shack ... wow ... you left the Duck at a loss for words. Doesn't happen often.

But, you have inspired the Duck once again ... the realization that you hadn't made an effort to dress up for yourself ... let alone your husband in awhile and then took action on it made the duck's heart flutter! I can think of nothing more heart-warming than to have your DH take note of your efforts, help you with the li'l one and then share a romantic evening alone!

... and it's not even valentines day, yet!

Squash the ANTs

Thursday, January 13, 2011

In the book I am reading "Change your brain, change your life" Dr. Amen talks about how to get rid of automatic negative thoughts (ANTs). As a person who experiences depression and anxiety, this is a life changing exercise.

1. When I notice a negative thought, I will write it down in my journal.

2. I will rewrite the thought in a positive or productive way.

3. I will recognize and squash the ANTs as much as possible!!

Making a plan to take care of the ANTs as they come will keep me from feeling overwhelmed.
