Are you a Turtle or a Hare???

I love the story of the race of the Turtle and the Hare... it has a good theme for both life in general, as well as for the rewards of nutrition and exercise! Many times we jump start like rabbits, but get bogged down or side tracked so easily by rich fattening foods, busy lives, or just simple laziness! We need the determination of the turtle for the long race!

    I think I am a turtle. I will do really well for a while. Then I get sidetracked and gain a little bit of weight (usually because of sugary food). I think I am the turtle because I always pick myself up and start again. If I just gave up and said "oh well I guess I can't do this", I think I would weigh a lot more than I do today. I try to look at the big picture!

    Even though I want to be like the turtle, I often find myself like the Hare. I've been on spark for almost 2 months now and find myself wanting to take that nap after running the race at full speed! I need to re evaluate how I can be more like the turtle. A man in our church says, "The path IS the goal." I know this path itself is important because it means permanent change in eating and exercising habits.

    The turtle in this story also reminds me that when I work at that slow, steady pace I will not burn out too quickly. So often we let the passion of the work at hand destroy the sense of stability that God has placed in all of us. Sure wish I'd realized this truth while I was still in my 30's emoticon. Thanks for reminding me of this all-time favorite :0)...

It is so good to be back to a normal schedule and back to exercising after a break away because of health reasons and a busy week of college kids home for spring break! I can't believe that just a few weeks off and I am this out of shape though!!! I have actually been sore from exercising!! HA! It has felt good to get back at it, although I can't do as much as I had been doing, I am content with where I am!

Rough Week....

Sigh... here I was excited about being able to exercise again... BUT... with college kids home for a week, two birthdays to celebrate, and everyone's favorite meals to fix... it has not been so good for me! I have not completely thrown the diet aside... but I have been taking in about 200 - 300 more calories a day, and these calories are not healthy foods, unfortunately!! I will just keep doing my best this week, but truly look forward to next week being back to normal diet AND exercise!!

    Don't be discouraged, you're right you will get back to a good diet. I was given great advice that we will mess up from time to time so just plan on it. Two steps forward and the occasional step a back. Just don't quit and you'll achieve your goal.

Walked Today....

After a break from strenuous exercise due to an iron deficiency, I am back to exercising.... I started slow and did feel a little shaky, but was able to walk almost 2 miles in 36 minutes. I look forward to building it up a little more each day as my strength returns!! YAY!!!

I had been so discouraged, because I wasn't able to exercise (due to health problems) to help with weight loss... yesterday, when I read a verse a friend posted, I decided not to worry about it... just rest in the Lord! I even posted it in my blog! Today I somehow lost a whole pound!!! I am truly amazed... What a wonderful God we serve!!

    Yeah! JUst when you start getting frustrated, apparently what you did days ago kicks in and you lose a pound or two! That's what happened with me this week! Keep it up!!
