Baby Shower Blues...

Friday, February 27, 2009

I went to a baby shower last night... didn't do too well... I even looked up the calories on things I knew were being served, to help me THINK before I ATE.

BUT, I ate two and a half pieces of veggie pizza (the kind on crescent rolls - yuummmm), sun chips (which I was told was baked and was low in fat - NOT), a small piece of cheeesecake, and two cups of punch!!! sigh....

I did not eat supper, which may have been my first mistake - HA! I was trying to save calories and planned on only eating one veggie pizza and a sliver of cheesecake. I should have asked for water (there was none out) and not felt bad... but... I didn't want to be a pain. And I should have stuck to my sliver of cheesecake!

Oh well... from the time I ate until the next morning, I had a stomach ache! I have been so good on my diet, that my body was not used to the rich foods! I actually had stomach problems the next morning that kept me in the bathroom...

I think I have learned a few very good lessons!

The best sermons are lived not spoken!

Wednesday, February 25, 2009

"The best sermons are lived not spoken!" I read this quote today... and this is such a true statement... Our children are watching everything we do, say, eat, and how we react to everything!!! What are we teaching them??? May we teach them to lift up others and encourage each other with our tongues! To learn early to eat a balanced diet! To do the things that would please the Lord each and every day!

1 Corinthians 15:57

"But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ."

I am thanking the Lord today for the victory He will give as I look to Him for the wisdom to balance my everyday responsibilities of home and church, my relationship with Him, my diet and exercise... Alone I could NEVER do it!

Church Potlucks...

Sunday, February 22, 2009

I have a love/hate relationship for potlucks!!! As much fun as they can be for the fellowship... they are hard on the diets! Last time I did great!!! This time, well, let's say I didn't ruin my diet... but... I think I will be pretty hungry by bed time!!! I can't believe I used all my calories in ONE meal!!! I had a very small breakfast, so... I am in shock at how many calories I consumed! Looking back, it truly was my choices: casseroles (full of fat!) and a little dessert (full of sugar!) can take up most of ones calories in a day! whew... I think I will make some healthy dishes next time, to give me some better choices! "Easy prep" dishes are not always the best for diets! Live and learn!!!

Yes, church potlucks can be hard on diets, but don't beat yourself up if you ate more than you should have. Next time bring a healthy dish or eat a smaller portions or share the dessert with your hubby. If you were hungry before bedtime, it is better to eat a small low fat meal otherwise you will be very hungry in the morning and could cause you to over eat then.

If you enjoyed the fellowship with your church family, then that is what is most important.

You are right on target!! And unlike birthdays and anniversaries, church meals come much more often in our church family. Our folks have an open breakfast each Sunday before Sunday School: Hot cheese biscuits, grits, sometimes fruit, and nearly always a tray of goodies from the bakery. God is teaching me now how I can pre-plan (even to eat healthy before I go), and to use healthy recipes for the foods I myself take to be shared. Thank you for helped me :0)...

Thanks for sharing...potlucks are hard on a diet but the good news is that tomorrow is another day. Pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and keep on losing my friend.

Let us not be weary in well doing...

Saturday, February 21, 2009

Galations 6:9 says: "And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not."

Although this is speaking primarily in a spiritual sense... it is an excellent principal that can be used in the area of weight loss!! We sometimes get weary and just want to get lazy in cooking right and exercise... BUT LET'S NOT BE WEARY!!! We will reap (get healthy and lose weight) if we faint not (don't give up)!
