Here is my public streak... Day #1

1) Staying in my calorie range
2) Exercising 6 days a week (Mon. - Sat.)
3) Drinking 8 cups of water
4) Eating at least 3 fruits/veggies

I need to make it public... and let my friends know, I need their help!! Anyone want to join me?? (and Mona)??

    Great idea!!! I am back on track...although I cut my cardio down to 3x a week and trying something different. I think I have been doing cardio too much :( So, I have my exercise down to cardio 3x and strength 3x...We'll see how it goes!

I will definitely try to help you each day :)

    You can do it! I'm in - although I might get interrupted on the exercise part, if my grandchild makes his or her arrival this week:) I'll be babysitting the 3 other grandchildren and hard to exercise with a 2 year old:)

I'm adding Bible study to the streak. I'm ashamed to tell you with my Mom visiting, I've let it slip:(

For those that asked how I used my computer while walking on the treadmill... here is a pic of how it is set up. You can't do it while jogging... and you cannot type... but you can read articles and emails!

There is a clear plastic piece that holds it tight at the bottom of the computer, so it will not vibrate off or fall. (You really can't see it that piece.) I do not know if all treadmills have this...

    I love it! I've seen the computer desks that you can use with a treadmill, so you can type as you walk! I think the idea is just the best!

The New Mother Skit

Here is a skit we did at a baby shower last night for a lady in our church. I am the one with 16 children... and just to let you know... I AM NOT THAT FAT! I stuffed my clothes with polyester filling and wrapped fleece around me. Hope you enjoy!

    Absolutely loved this!!!! It was hilarious!! It reminded me so much of our church back downstate! I miss it sooooo much! We now go to such a small church up here and not the most sociable church!!! Bummer!!! I miss the fellowship sooo much! I have all of them on facebook but it is not the same!! What I have learned in one year on Spark People!!!

Today is my one year anniversary of Spark People. It truly has been a fun and rewarding adventure in so many ways! I have learned sooo much about myself and proper nutrition! Let me share with you some of these things!

1) Fad Diets Do Not Work

After trying every diet out there... diets just do not work!! I would lose the weight, only to regain it all again and a little more weight each time. Getting on Spark People taught me more about proper nutrition and learning a healthy lifestyle, and to look for the triggers that make me overeat.

2) Triggers that make me Overeat

I overeat when I am thirsty. I never recognized that many times when I ate, I was just thirsty, and not really hungry!! Making sure I get more fluids helped out tremendously!! I also overeat when I am bored or watching TV. So, I try to crochet, or sit with my laptop and do Spark People when watching TV, and I find other things to do when tempted to eat. I usually have plenty to do... so I am just trying to get out of doing it by eating.. LOL! I am also an emotional eater. This I thought was the hardest, but has become the easiest to deal with! I pray about it, leave it with the Lord, and then go for a walk! Most of the time, there is nothing else I can do about it anyway!!

3) Community is Important

I have made some of the best friendships with people that I have never met... but they are truly some of the best friends I have. They encourage me, I encourage them; they pray for me, I pray for them; and we share through our Spark Pages, pictures, goodies, our team threads and huddles, personal status's, etc... I know I could not have done it without them!

4) I CAN Run Races at 43 Years of age!

Ever since moving to the Quad City area, I have watched and read about The Bix (a 7 mile race). I have always had a desire to race it!! This past year I did JUST THAT!! Reading on Spark People about how to train for a race I began my journey of preparing. I almost chickened out until a special friend (Chantelle15) said she would do it with me and trained for a few weeks with me. I RAN in The Bix and fell in love with running races!! Okay... so we didn't break any records... but, we had fun and I can never explain in words the excitement in running a race. So we started looking for more races... we ran a 2 mile race, then 2 5ks together. I even won a 2nd place trophy in one race for my age division! This winter I just keep running on my treadmill and waiting for spring and that first race as a 44 year old, and hope to be able to race for many more years!!

5) You Can't Cheat the Nutrition Tracker

Well, you might TRY to cheat the nutrition tracker, but for some reason, your body never hears the secret and can put on the pounds!! LOL Being honest also helps to see where you really are in your nutrition each day. I have learned so much about myself through logging my food, whether good or bad! It also helps me tell whether I need to take a calcium supplement or not each day, and makes nutrition fun!!

6) The Scale does not Determine my Success

I used to weight myself all day, and if I lost weight, I would feel great... If I gained weight I would feel down and discouraged. Now, I do check my weight each day, but I know that there are so many things that make the weight go up and down. Salt intake, retaining fluids, building muscle, hormones, etc... I don't worry if it is up a little here or there... learning to faithfully exercise and eat in moderation will yield results sooner or later. I feel better than I have ever been in my life... and that is so much more important than what the scale says.

7) One step Backwards, Two steps Forward

This is truly how dieting is... I used to make mistakes and then fall apart. Now I make mistakes and learn from them!!!

I love Spark People and all it has done for me. I bought the book (The Spark), and was able to get a shirt to share with others the secret behind my success. I look forward to learning more in my second year on Spark People!!!! Let's GO!!!!

  you are an inspiration. I don't think I'll ever be able to run in a race, but if I could just walk around my trailor park. It is rather large. I would be happy. Thank you for your inspiration. emoticon

    I appreciate these valuable insights. You are very articulate! I started jogging very recently. Now it has been 10 degrees (Michigan) for several days so I've been sticking to indoor aerobics. But I mapped out a 5K loop from the house and my 14yo daughter is going to walk/run with me next week. Thanks for sharing!

I want to lose 5 pounds this month, and get over 1000 fitness minutes again this month. Although I got 1000 fitness minutes last month, with the holiday foods... I did not lose weight. SO, I really need to work on my food and nutrition, and lose some weight this month!! I am SOO ready!!
