My Fourth Race

Saturday, September 12, 2009

Well, I ran my 4th race today... and it was really great!! Although halfway through, I always wonder why I sign up to do this... but... I truly enjoy crossing over the finish line, and that feeling of accomplishment. Especially when I beat my own personal record by 4 minutes!!! Today I ran a 5k in 34:40. Which gives me almost 11 minute miles! It was nice to meet another Spark People friend from the Quad Cities!!!

Margie, I am so impressed with your running and how you keep such a steady pace. How do I know? I was literally watching every step you made. You were my focal point to distract myself on my tired legs. Some day I want to run as fast as you!

Thank you so much for being such an inspiration! It was an absolute pleasure meeting you, your wonderful daughters and of course Chantelle. Lets do it again!!!

Margie, if you stop and think about the big picture, aren't you amazed with your progress. Think back at your pre-SparkPeople days for instance. Would you have ever considered even keeping track of these numbers? I know I was far from it. You have come a long way, baby!!!!!

Chantelle15 told me to add cholesterol as an added nutrient... wow... what a shock to see that I really do eat a lot of cholesterol!!! Even with dieting, and being careful, I go over every day... Today I did the best and was about 24 over...

I challenge you to watch your cholesterol for a week or two!!!

Egg yolks are a HUGE source of cholesterol... as are some surprising sources like shrimp! A balanced lifestyle is the key!

I added cholesterol to my tracking for the week (since I am getting older, you know...) and mine was pretty good...until today! I just ate hard boiled eggs (0.5 cup chopped with 1 tbsp miracle whip for a sandwich) and that in itself made me go over my daily limit!!! eggs???? How horrible!!! I will continue to eat eggs. Maybe just not everday :)

Oh how timely your blog entry is for me! Yep, tried it but still didn't help. *Refer to my cholesterol blog entry* Sometimes one just can't fight your hereditary traits.

Chantelle scares me!

Good idea. I'll add it more for my husband's sake as his cholesterol is high - mine is normal, so far.

I actually started tracking my nutrition specifically to see why my doctor was prescribing cholesterol medication - I couldn't believe my eating could be contributing to the problem. Talk about an eye-opener! Doing MUCH better after making a few substitutions; the nutrition tracker helps keep me honest now.

Weekly Report & 5k race on Saturday

Monday, August 31, 2009

Here is my weekly report... not very good at all! There was too many things like a birthday, weekend trip, company, busy getting homeschool started, etc... that kept me from exercising and from eating right... I am glad it is a new week and I am looking forward to getting back on track!

My averages per day for the past week:
Calories - 1795 (over)
Fat - 60
Carbohydrates - 260
Protein - 59 (under)
Fiber - 21 (under)
Iron - 148
Exercise - 22

Friday night Chantelle, Christina, Joy, Becca, and I went to Rock Falls, IL. We had to be in Amboy, IL early Saturday for a 5k race. We had a great time going out to eat, swimming, site seeing (since I lived there many years ago), and of course RUNNING!! I am amazed at how I LOVE to race!! It is something that you get in your blood after your first race! Chantelle and I were able to keep a nice steady pace and run the WHOLE way. We ended with a time of 38:48, which was 12:27 minute miles split.

I am tentitively hoping to run the Nancy Kapheim Memorial Classic at Sunset Park in Rock Island on Sunday October 11--anyone interested in running with me? Or training with me?? I'm losing my running partner October 1!!!
