2 weeks = 3 pounds lost!!

Tuesday, August 21, 2012

Well, I have been back on Spark People for a little over 2 weeks. My weigh-in days are on Tuesdays, so I was VERY excited to see 3 pounds lost today! I am not sure if I will weigh every week or every other week. Weight lost is always a big motivator, but I know I need to stick with it, even on tough weeks!!

Faithful and Determined is what I chose for my Spark Page 3 1/2 years ago, and I really need that to be my motivator regardless of weight loss or not! One day at a time and cheering each small victory!

Meg, your blogs are inspiring! I am also a "sewer" who went off a program and gained some back. Now, I will start over and I am enthused about my new resolve. I have some old friends coming to SparkPeople soon, and I want to make new friends, also. I can succeed if I am in a group of supportive people. DonnaLou76

Starting Over is TOUGH!!!

Wednesday, August 08, 2012

Well, a little over three years ago I started Spark People. I remember reading blogs of people who had started, lost weight, put it back on, and then came back to Spark people to do it all over again. I remember thinking, that is NOT going to be me! Funny how life can be so odd and change so much from day to day, month to month, and year to year. I had a lot of things get in the way of my weight loss goals: death in the family, injuries, house fire, etc... then last summer, I had poison ivy for over 5 months. It kept me from exercising because it was SO bad, and exercising made it spread worse. Peri-menapause is also doing a number on me and every day has felt like a struggle to stay focused!! This summer I started slowly... very slowly... and have been picking up the pace. After much thought, I decided to go back to Spark People. I have met some of the greatest friends here and the tools on Spark People are SOO helpful! Thanks to many who have continued to send me notes and encouragement through the past year! I have missed you all!!

Glad to see you become more determined. It is hard - especially when ministry is also there to do, household jobs, counselling, preparing umteen meals for guests, etc.
But, I doubt there will be regrets in changing to better eating exercising habits.
Since my DH is preaching through I Cor. - I was sure glad that when he came to the end of chapter 10 - I didn't have to squirm in my seat because I know I have made changes that glorify God. Probably the first time I could do this in decades.

I just celebrated my 5 yr. anniversary on Spark this week. I was gung ho when I first started and lost 33 lbs. I kept it off for over a year then slowly gained back 20. I've since gained 20 more and have struggled to get any of it off for a very long time. I really know how you feel, but I won't give up. Glad you're back on Spark!

Welcome back! I was in a similar boat. I joined SP in college 3 years ago... graduated, became a teacher, started grad school, and gained it back plus some. At much as i didn't want to have to go through the process again, I feel like i am approaching it from a different angle this time. At least i knew that when i was ready there was a loving, supportive place full of resources waiting to accept me back:) We can do this!

House Fire

Sunday, January 02, 2011

Here are our pictures from our house fire. It happened on Tuesday, December 21st. It made for an extra hectic Christmas. One of my children had made a microwave chex mix recipe, but after just 3 minutes in, it started smoking... not wanting to fill the house with smoke, it was placed outside the house on a large Rubbermaid container (that held our lawn chairs and cushions for our patio furniture) that was covered with a foot of snow. Evidently, the oxygen hitting the hot coals of the gardettos in the chex mix and the butter, started the fire. We did not hear or smell it, because the house already had a smokey smell. The neighbor's birthday happened to be on December 21st, so they were planning a birthday party, and the sister and her husband arrived and smelled smoke. They went looking around to see where it was coming from, and found a rather large fire at that point on our deck. They ran around to tell us, when I went to look, I could see the fire in the door window and our siding was actually melting before my eyes. I called 911 and my daughter and I got the dogs outside. I checked to make sure all the kids were out, and the boys started fighting the fire. Amazingly, both of my boys had dreamed the sun room was on fire a few nights before and one had made a plan of what he should do if the house was ever on fire. My husband had gone to pick up my other son from work, and had taken one daughter to stop at the store to buy more ingredients for chex mix. I called him, but he did not arrive until after the firemen got there. My boys and the neighbor actually got the fire out before the fire trucks had arrived!! The fire did get into the house... it caught the curtain and blind on fire, the rug at the door and the frame of the glass in the door. Ben threw everything on fire out the door, and beat the fire with a boot. I was glad they put out the fire, but if I knew he had been running into the house, I would have been worried SICK!!

As much as we don't like to see problems in life, especially at inconvenient times, like Christmas... we really saw God's hand in it all. My mom and dad were on their way up to spend Christmas with us, and my dad did a lot of work to get it livable for us!! At a time like this (so close to Christmas) it would have been hard to find some one willing to do it... it just happens that my dad IS a carpenter, and does this kind of work every day for a living!! We found some great sales on the doors... One of the old doors was actually rotting around the frame and we didn't know it, so we were grateful to find that problem and get it fixed! There were so many other ways too that we saw God work... and though we do not always understand why God allows these things, we know He promises that all things work together for good!!

Whew, I'm glad that your boys got there in time! I'm so sorry that this happened to you all, I've never been in a fire so I couldn't even imagine it. I'm glad that you are all okay, and I hope that by now the house is back to normal.

Sometimes things like this happen, and bring you more together during the holiday season. It sounds like that was the case. (And they teach everyone to be careful with their microwaves!)

PTL you are all safe. Isn't our God awesome, He sure set His angels charge over you and your house. Wonderful news that everything turned out well and there was minimal damage. Most important of all you, your sons and dogs were all protected from serious injury, for that I am rejoicing with you and praising God for the wonderful outcome. To God be the Glory!

Thank you Jesus for keeping Margie and family safe. Lord to actually have a carpenter there to fix the house - only you could have worked that out. Lord and for Margie's two sons to have a dream that this would happen, prepared them to prevent the fire from getting worse!! All family members [including the dogs] were safely outside the house, Lord you are awesome.
Thank you Jesus for having your hand in this situation. Thank you Jesus for working a near major disaster into a lesser fire. Thank you Jesus that the neighbors/visitors were on hand to help the situation work out also - shows that you were protecting Margie and family. I praise you Jesus for having your hand in all of this.

Margie thank you for sharing this with us. It is encouraging to know that even in a fire, Jesus was there to help you!!

Happy to have you back on SparkPeople after the Christmas activities. It's a wonderful time of year, but so busy and I'm looking forward to getting back to a more normal routine.

Words cannot express..

Friday, September 03, 2010

Words cannot express the deep feelings a mother feels when dropping off her teen at college for the first time. It is like leaving a part of you... and an overwhelming sense of pride when thinking back how God has worked through their lives through the years to come to this point!! May God work in our children's lives to grow to love Him more and more!!

Thanks to my friends who have prayed for me the past two weeks!! (((hugs)))

I know how you feel. I felt like was leaving part of myself in that dorm room when we left our oldest daughter at college 4 years ago. Now she is married and lives 14 hours away and is expecting our first grandchild in 2 weeks (yes, we will be making the trip).

My daughters didn't go away to college, but went close to home. So I didn't go through that. It must be hard. I sort of understand since my girls both got married and moved out very close together. We have had an empty nest for 9 years now. I love seeing how God is working in my grown children and grandchildren. When your kids move it's an emotional time of both sadness because you miss them yet being proud of them. Eventually you get used to the new season of your life. May God bless you with His grace during this tough season.

When I think about my son going to college.....I panic. He wants to attend PCC, which is 7-8 hours away. It might as well be on the other side of the earth. I know I will be proud though. I am happy for you. I'm sure they are fine young men. I hope you are doing better after your fall. I hated to read about that, and also your brother-in-law. Titusville is near to wear we live. I wish you well and wonderful blessings from God as your children grow in the Lord and finish their educations.

I have loved watching my boys just blossom in their spiritual growth throughout their college experience! My youngest flew into Pensacola tonight (he is a junior) but we chatted at each layover and now after he got into his room! It helps so much to talk to them a lot throughout the week! Hugs to you as you go through these times too!!! Have a wonderful week!!
