Back in the Saddle

Sunday, October 09, 2011

I slept for 12 hours last night. I sure did need it. I feel so much better today. I went to the gym and did a 128 minute workout (sure wish I could add those extra 8 minutes for the Cloverleaf team!). I worked on a couple of blocks for my baby grandson's quilt - he should make his appearance any day now!

Now to sit and relax, cross stitch and watch The Amazing Race.

Snow, Deer & Quilting

Sunday, October 09, 2011

I woke up this morning to snow and no power. My husband got the camp stove and we heated up water for tea and oatmeal. While we were eating 9 deer came walking by our back fence.

The power came on a couple of hours later. My son and his family came over, because I was going to teach my daughter-in-law how to quilt. It was fun teaching her. She is making a medallion quilt. The center was a eight-pointed star and then we will be doing different borders--a four square checked, a ribbon, and a "mountain" chain.

I put a crock pot of turkey chili on this morning and made cornbread for church. We are starting to have house church. We are having meals and meeting in homes. We are a very small church of about 20 people.

I was going to go to the gym this morning, but because of the snow and no power I didn't therefore I didn't get any exercise it today. I did stay within my calorie range. I am feeling better and am ready to get back into a good exercise routine.

Our scale also broke today, so I need to get a new one.

Love your pictures! Living in the country in Far East Texas, we are still running our air conditioners. Need rain so bad....hope to get some soon.

Wish I was there for the quilting lesson. Plan to get brave & try a wallhanging one of these days (before a quilt).

My country church is so small if we had 20 we would consider it a crowd! Home church sounds nice. Good luck with it.

Beautiful pictures, but I must admit, I really am not looking forward to the snow again. We really didn't have a summer and fall is here and winter is just around the corner.

I'm glad to hear you have started a home church. if we ever get moved back into the country, we will probably start up home bible study again, but the home we live in now is too small and there is no place to park.

Teaching your DIL to quilt is such a blessing for both you and her. You'll have to post a picture of her first quilt when she gets it done.

Keep warm and thank you for sharing.

Debbie

WOW! When it rains it pours! Or snows... House church sounds fun! MY congregation started out in a house... my friends, Al & Sally started it in their home 35 years ago, and then it blossomed! I wish I had been there back in the early days! But it sounds like you guys are going the other way... and now... as usual... I have questions! If you don't mind sharing, what denomination are you? And did your church used to be "bigger"? And do you live waaaaaaaay out in the country? I live waaaaaaay out in the country -- but it's gotten less country in the last 20 years! But we still have a family of 6 dear that seem to LIVE in our back woods.

BEAUTIFUL pictures!!!! Not sure what part of the country you live in but it sure is gorgeous! I'm in NE Texas here... temps are FINALLY cooling down... was able to turn the air off and open the windows a few weeks ago... Now if we could just get some RAIN! This drought is AWFUL.... But it is clouding up as I type this and looking like we might get a little so praying that we do... :)

Now that's an ominous thing - your scale breaking! It must have gotten too cold without the heat on, lol! We had our electricity go out on Christmas Eve one year and it stayed off for about 18 hours. But we didn't have any back-up heat at all. And yet it was a Christmas we'll always remember! Neat photo of the deer!

Thank You

Saturday, October 08, 2011

Thank You all my Spark Friends for your Happy Sparkversary wishes. It is hard to believe I have been on Spark People for 2 years. Looking back over the 2 years, there have been many ups and downs. But I have lost weight and still losing. I am eating healthier. I have been challenged to exercise and I actually had a 8 week streak of exercising 120 minutes a day (which I plan on getting started again and exceeding!). I have made many great friends and have had the privilege of meeting some.

Thank you again for walking by me and encouraging me in this weight loss and healthy living journey

Good work! I'm sure your team appreciate all your great 120-minute days to carry them to exotic locations. However, if I didn't have this team challenge, I'd probably strive to work in a day of rest every now and then. Definitely keep staying the course and making gains to improved health.

Daughter & Training

Friday, October 07, 2011

I have been very tired this week. I haven't slept well, because I have had a cough at night. A couple of days it was all I could do to stay awake. I just "vegged" on the couch while the kids played. I only exercised for 3 min yesterday - that was all I could muster. I hope to sleep better tonight.

Tonight I had training session with my trainer and my daughter came along with me. It was fun training with her. She will be having a training session with me once a month.
My trainer gave me some new exercises -- I used a kettleball for the first time.

Glad you are getting better sleep Carrie. It's a treasure when we get those needed zzzzzz's. I love working with the kettlebell; however my new gym I am in doesn't have them. I think you will enjoy the new challenge.

Funny story about the kettlebell. The place I used to work at as a fitness coach a couple of years ago did have a kettlebell in the circuit training. One lady loved using it and was doing the one arm swing out from her body in a squat and up. Her hand was slippery from sweat. Yep. She lost her grip and out it came towards a wall of mirrors! Thankfully it only cracked the mirror and no one was in front of her. She was very embarrassed and I was grateful no one was injured. So hold on tight to that bell!!

How'd you like the kettleball? I have one... I've only used it once ... then I decided my back needs to be a lot stronger before I do any more of that! Since I have middle back issues that could take awhile... Like everything else, they make it LOOK fun... but it's WORK!!! emoticon

Tired

Tuesday, October 04, 2011

I woke up at 12:45am and couldn't get back to sleep. So, I went downstairs and started "sparking". I noticed that my Cloverleaf team needed only 29 more minutes to land. So, I decided since I couldn't sleep, I would exercise. I put on Leslie Sansone and walked 2 miles (30 min). This helped our team land first place!

I finally got back to sleep around 3:00am. But it made the rest of the day very hard.
Being tired sure puts my defenses down and I ended up eating 3-4 cookies. emoticon

However, I did some exercises after the kids went home and then I went to the gym tonight. I did a total of 120 minutes of exercise today.

My daughter told me tonight that she has put in her planner to go to the gym with me every Monday night!

Hey, thanks for that exercise! :-)

I think your nap sounds like a very good idea; I doubly appreciate your exercise, because that is exactly how my body would have reacted - it would have given me extra energy and then I wouldn't have been able to go back to sleep!

I am hoping to get my daughter exercising with me once in a while, so am glad to read about yours going to the gym with you!
