Discouraged Yet Trying to Stay Focused

Wednesday, August 25, 2010

I weighed in last night at TOPS. I had a 3.25 lb gain. I know I just had surgery and haven't been able to exercise like I wanted, but it is still discouraging. Mainly because I am now almost to what I was at the beginning of the year. I do so well, then WHAM something happens that knocks me back.

Plus, today a good friend was told that her husband probably has only 48 hours left. He was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer a month ago. It brings back so many memories of my mom who died of pancreatic cancer 2 1/2 years ago.

So since I have been fighting the urge to snack all day, I stayed upstairs (away from the kitchen) most of the day and worked on my husband's kilt.

I am not going to quit.
I will stay focused.
I will get this weight off.

Carrie remember Philippians 4:6-7 "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your request be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."

And Julia is correct, you have many folks here on SP that are with you on this weight loss journey. emoticon

I will be praying for your friend's hubby.

Carrie...you have a team of women here on Spark who are praying and cheering you on to continue to take each day and make those choices wisely. Here is what you did today:

*was brave and bold enough to get weighed at TOPS after being laid up with surgery.
*was brave enough to blog about it to others
*is a good friend and is trusted to be there for them, even if you are hurting yourself
*made a choice to stay away from the kitchen and emotional eating.
*did something you are good at (sewing)
*love your husband enough to bless him with a kilt.
*said you will stay focused and not quit.

You are a winner in my eyes; and God's too.

Love ya! Julia

You have a great attitude and made some awesome choices! I hope you see all the positive through this. It is hard when the scale is saying something we dont want, but as I often have to remind myself to do, you have to look at all the good you are doing and the scale cant measure those things!!!
Keep up the good work!

Carrie, you can't really get discouraged by 3 pounds! Not after a surgery like yours. I understand it bites to see the scale, but this is one of those things where you just have to allow yourself some leeway. You are doing great, and like Jodi said, imagine how much easier it will be to burn those 3 pounds back off with your knee all better!

I'm sorry about your friend, and about the pain it brings back for you. ((((HUGS)))) Keep your chin up.

Oh, Carrie -- sounds like a rough day! but you're making good choices, and soon enough the knee pain will be behind you and you can get moving again. Keep tracking, keep eating those Freggies, and above all, keep praying and trusting Jesus! He is with you and loves you -- and he will accomplish the good work he has begun in you!!

I can relate with starting to make progress and something happens and you end up back where you started. Just keep moving forward and you will achieve your goal.

Carrie don't let the past control you, learn from it and move forward. Seeing how distracted you get when things out of your control hit you is something to think about, it will always happen, so how can you respond in a more healthy manner? Make a plan now so when it happens again you can respond in a healthier way.
I would think having new knees you have a much better chance to burn more calories in the future so those pounds will drop off in good time, just keep recouping in a steady pace so you can maximize those new joints!
I'm sorry about your friend and your loss but it sounds like you made a wise choice to stay away from temptation.
We are all proud of you and cheering you on, you ARE DOING IT!!! emoticon emoticon emoticon

    Carrie,
Do not get discourage I am going to share with you a little something that was given to me by a TOPS AREA COORDINATOR from Southern California her name is Rhoddie Ludwig, I was able to meet her and correspond with her via email and her is her words!!
Itís not an annoying feeling that settles in the pit of our stomach. Nor a shiver you feel just after youíve taken a hot shower. You only know that itís been a part of you; your thoughts, wishes, hopes and dreams. This is a good feeling, nothing you fear. You have never noticed before, and now, you feel yourself starting to change.
Where there was no hope, you now dream. Where there was sadness, a smile now beams.
Youíve come to the realization that the way you had lived for too many years is a thing of the past. Youíre taking your life back and looking toward the future of health and happiness.
The part of you that was a puzzle has become clear. You started to believe in the one person you have control over. You believe in yourself.
Youíve done your homework and started a plan. With help it will work. All you need is a hand.
You walked into the building and through the door you see Welcome to our TOPS chapter.
Your journey has just begun! Believe in yourself and you will achieve!
Carrie, you had a setback donít let it be a distraction, use it the set back and bounce forward and keep pushing to losing, if you work at keeping track of what you eat, it will all come off in due time you just had surgery and have been on meds and stuff that has your system off, just continue to drink your water and watch your portions and write it down. I betcha in a few weeks youíll be whistling Dixie ;)
I believe in you and know you can do this!!! Do you believe in you? i believe you do! I am proud of you!

30 + No Crutch!

Tuesday, August 24, 2010

Today I did 30 reps of each exercise in my first physical therapy session. And yesterday, I didn't use the crutch at all! My knee is still a little swollen and I do take it easy, but I feel stronger each day.

Tonight I am even going to try to drive and go to TOPS for my first weigh-in after surgery (which I am not looking forward to because I will probably have a gain).

Oh well, one thing at a time!

20....25

Sunday, August 22, 2010

Today I increased each exercise I do for physical therapy by 5. The doctor started me out doing 20 reps 3x's a day. Then he wanted me to work toward 30 reps, then 50 reps and finally 100 reps. My goal this week is to do the 30 reps and the following week work up to 50 reps.

I praise the Lord, that there really has been no pain, just achiness and swelling. My range of motion is getting better with the exercise -- I especially noticed that today. I still get tired after walking too much -- which I did yesterday.

One thing I did do today - I tried going up and down the stairs with no crutch. It was slow going and doing one step at a time but I did it!

Courage

Friday, August 20, 2010

I just finished reading The Lords of the Earth by Don Richardson. I was so inspired by the testimonies of the missionaries as they worked tirelessly and gave their lives to reach the Yali's in Irian Jaya. It was a hard book to put down and I cried as I read the courage that God gave Stan Dale and Phil Masters as they gave their lives so that the Yali's would know the true love and gospel.

May I have the courage to face the different trials that come in my life and may I be a light to spread God's gift of salvation to others!

Did It!

Thursday, August 19, 2010

I did it! One of my physical therapy exercises was a 7 ct tightening and lifting my straight leg. I have barely been able to do it--and I was supposed to do it 20 times 3 x's a day. I have only been able to do it 10x's max. Well, I just did it 20x's! Boy it was tough, but I determined to get it done!
And I will again this afternoon!
