Doctor's Report

Monday, September 27, 2010

I had my 8 week after surgery check-up for my knee. The doctor was pleased about the progress and how well I'm doing. He wants me to continue to do the strength exercises, but now every other day instead of everyday. He said that it will probably take at least 6-9 months until my knee is 100%. He said now it is rebuilding the strength from when my knee was injured before the surgery and it will take some time. I just need to be patient and slowly work up exercising it. I have been given to okay to use the treadmill, but no incline and at a slow pace. As I get stronger I can do more...just building up stamina and strength.

2nd Day

Sunday, September 26, 2010

Today was Sunday and more of a rest day. We also went to see Oliver! at a Dinner Theater. I had a real light breakfast and so far have stayed within my calorie limit. I didn't do any exercise today because of being in the car for3.5 hours (the theater was 1.5 hrs from home). The show was fabulous and we had a great time.

Back to blogging

Saturday, September 25, 2010

I haven't blogged for a month now. It has been extremely busy with the bumper crop of fruit! I have been working on fruit almost everyday. But, now that the Fall 5% Challenge has started today and with it is a blogging challenge -- I'm back!

I still have apples to work up, but I am going to start focusing again on my weight loss goals. I have started a Leslie Sansone mile walk DVD - I want to do it everyday and build up. My knee is doing a little better-even though it still swells up with exercise-I see the dr on Monday for a checkup.

I am part of several team challenges this fall and I want to get back to what I weighed at the end of May (before all the problems with my knee and surgery).

So...

1. Stay within calorie limit--track EVERYTHING on SP
2. Begin a daily exercise routine -- Exercise before SP, then log it
--continue with knee physical therapy ( had been slacking these last couple of weeks because I had been on my feet all day and my knee hurt)
--Leslie Sansone 1 mile walk
--strength training a different set of muscles ea day
--Oxycise 5 x's a week
3. Blog daily, even if it is short.
4. Participate Fully in ALL challenges

Discouraged Yet Trying to Stay Focused

Wednesday, August 25, 2010

I weighed in last night at TOPS. I had a 3.25 lb gain. I know I just had surgery and haven't been able to exercise like I wanted, but it is still discouraging. Mainly because I am now almost to what I was at the beginning of the year. I do so well, then WHAM something happens that knocks me back.

Plus, today a good friend was told that her husband probably has only 48 hours left. He was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer a month ago. It brings back so many memories of my mom who died of pancreatic cancer 2 1/2 years ago.

So since I have been fighting the urge to snack all day, I stayed upstairs (away from the kitchen) most of the day and worked on my husband's kilt.

I am not going to quit.
I will stay focused.
I will get this weight off.

Carrie remember Philippians 4:6-7 "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your request be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."

And Julia is correct, you have many folks here on SP that are with you on this weight loss journey. emoticon

I will be praying for your friend's hubby.

Carrie...you have a team of women here on Spark who are praying and cheering you on to continue to take each day and make those choices wisely. Here is what you did today:

*was brave and bold enough to get weighed at TOPS after being laid up with surgery.
*was brave enough to blog about it to others
*is a good friend and is trusted to be there for them, even if you are hurting yourself
*made a choice to stay away from the kitchen and emotional eating.
*did something you are good at (sewing)
*love your husband enough to bless him with a kilt.
*said you will stay focused and not quit.

You are a winner in my eyes; and God's too.

Love ya! Julia

Carrie, you can't really get discouraged by 3 pounds! Not after a surgery like yours. I understand it bites to see the scale, but this is one of those things where you just have to allow yourself some leeway. You are doing great, and like Jodi said, imagine how much easier it will be to burn those 3 pounds back off with your knee all better!

I'm sorry about your friend, and about the pain it brings back for you. ((((HUGS)))) Keep your chin up.

Carrie don't let the past control you, learn from it and move forward. Seeing how distracted you get when things out of your control hit you is something to think about, it will always happen, so how can you respond in a more healthy manner? Make a plan now so when it happens again you can respond in a healthier way.
I would think having new knees you have a much better chance to burn more calories in the future so those pounds will drop off in good time, just keep recouping in a steady pace so you can maximize those new joints!
I'm sorry about your friend and your loss but it sounds like you made a wise choice to stay away from temptation.

    Carrie,
Do not get discourage I am going to share with you a little something that was given to me by a TOPS AREA COORDINATOR from Southern California her name is Rhoddie Ludwig, I was able to meet her and correspond with her via email and her is her words!!
Itís not an annoying feeling that settles in the pit of our stomach. Nor a shiver you feel just after youíve taken a hot shower. You only know that itís been a part of you; your thoughts, wishes, hopes and dreams. This is a good feeling, nothing you fear. You have never noticed before, and now, you feel yourself starting to change.
Where there was no hope, you now dream. Where there was sadness, a smile now beams.
Youíve come to the realization that the way you had lived for too many years is a thing of the past. Youíre taking your life back and looking toward the future of health and happiness.
The part of you that was a puzzle has become clear. You started to believe in the one person you have control over. You believe in yourself.
Youíve done your homework and started a plan. With help it will work. All you need is a hand.
You walked into the building and through the door you see Welcome to our TOPS chapter.
Your journey has just begun! Believe in yourself and you will achieve!
Carrie, you had a setback donít let it be a distraction, use it the set back and bounce forward and keep pushing to losing, if you work at keeping track of what you eat, it will all come off in due time you just had surgery and have been on meds and stuff that has your system off, just continue to drink your water and watch your portions and write it down. I betcha in a few weeks youíll be whistling Dixie ;)
I believe in you and know you can do this!!! Do you believe in you? i believe you do! I am proud of you!

30 + No Crutch!

Tuesday, August 24, 2010

Today I did 30 reps of each exercise in my first physical therapy session. And yesterday, I didn't use the crutch at all! My knee is still a little swollen and I do take it easy, but I feel stronger each day.

Tonight I am even going to try to drive and go to TOPS for my first weigh-in after surgery (which I am not looking forward to because I will probably have a gain).

Oh well, one thing at a time!
