Birth Date... The GIFT of Life!

Thursday, September 03, 2009

"Mom always said life begins at 40, so I guess that means I'm 3 today and just like a toddler, learning and trying new things, expanding my knowledge and appreciate the gifts of life every day!"

I've been up since around 2am so I'll be tired later (maybe). I feel so energized and happy - a nice dream woke me and then I decided rather than tossing and turning to try to get back to sleep to get up and get some things done! This included rolling up some change, reading, and making the girls dinner for tonight (so far). I have to get my morning workout in because my colleagues are taking me out for lunch so I won't get my lunch hour walk in.

I managed to get the lunch hour walk in (about 30 to 40mins a day is what I've been doing) AND coaxed my oldest daughter to join me to do a 'family' walk to the sailing club. I think she enjoyed it, as I did immensely. Wanted to share with my Sparkers some of the beauty that I get to see on some of my daily walks. For team members of "People in Ottawa" have a look as this is the scenery we'd get to explore if we met at Andrew Haydon Park (as is the plan for Sept 20th).

Here's the view I see when I get up onto the path near my home (I'll have to go back and take a 'sunset' shot one night):

And here are some more shots - some with me, some with the girls of the scenery along the way... It will be so beautiful this Fall!

The goose thought the girls had food and was following closely lol...

I love the water, and these falls were a beautiful background for pics!

I can't believe how she's sooo grown up now!

The pond in front and just beyond the sailboats... Breathtaking place! Here's the sailing club... perhaps a good meeting point to start our Meet & Greet journey on Sept 20th!

So this was the GIFT to myself yesterday! Getting in about 120mins total activity including this one hour walk with my girls! It's been so beautiful, it's just something I had to do. Think I may head out to Hog's Back Falls next for pictures/walk. Included in that 120mins was my 20 mins of weights!

So Happy Birthday to me!! First one in Ottawa and promising to be my BEST year yet! 2009 is truly an amazing year... so far! Going to finish strong and tally in the total weight loss for the year in January as we look to new resolutions for change.

Change is constant and reviewing one's goals in all aspects of life is important to do! Just never forget that you are the 'scriptor' of your own life (like in a movie) and I can't wait to keep developing my movie! Living my BEST life!!

Oh, my sweet new friend, Helene,
I am late wishing you a wonderful and healthful Happy Birthday but know I was thinking of you all day long.
This is the first I have been able to connect for a period of time to the internet so I wanted to read your blog and wish you the best of the best and it looks like you found it.
Now, if we do make it up there around the first or second week of Oct. I hope that we can go on that same walk with you although I would have to walk it rather slowly. How wonderful, beautiful and peaceful it looks. If you give us directions, Jim and I could walk it while you work and then we can meet for a wonderful meal, or whatever. You just decide and all that I really care about is that I can give you a big hug to thank you for putting me in touch with the info you gave me and taking the time to write me so many notes answering my many questions when you were such a busy lady and mom.
I am excited about your new life in Ottawa---couldn't have picked a prettier town anywhere and we have been to many. We tend to love the country living and going to town although, I am ready now, for the change---Jim isn't and he is who I try to cater to, not me as he has given up his life's dreams for two different families as he has worked, worked, worked to support us all so it is HIS TURN and I don't mind. He is who I care about in my life and I want him around for at least another 50 years. I can't wait for you to meet him----and me, too.
I will close for now as I wanted this to be all about you and your day. I am so glad that we are September Sisters--we will build some memories together and I am hoping that we will be able to meet your daughters, as well.
If it is okay with you, I would love to see your home and all the work you have talked about when you were painting and surprising your daughters----but, of course, that is up to you.
Now, remember, we in our royal family, believe in the 30 days of birthday----I figured if Christmas could have 12 days, then we, the little people, could have 30 and they can start before, during or after, but only 30 days---not 40 etc. LOL
And, it is the little things---like that beautiful walk and sharing the pictures, which I am hoping to do on this trip.
Thank you for taking all the time that you do sharing the pictures with the rest of us. You are truly special and artistic that way.
Peace, love and blessings,

    Happy Birthday!!
I can't believe I have always lived in the West end of Ottawa and have never been to Andrew Haydon Park!
This is literally a 15 minute walk (maybe 20) from where I have been living for the last 3 ˝ years! Simply baffled. I think I’m going to walk there this weekend… I can’t wait until the 20th to see it!

No sweating the SMALL Stuff...

Wednesday, September 02, 2009

It's amazing how far I've come when it comes to NOT sweating the small stuff in life. I see my new reactions (or non-reactions) to things that used to urk me to no end and now I just shrug them off or deal with them in a positive way (using a calm voice and staying in control). What a great feeling of accomplishment that is in itself. Yesterday a colleague made a comment about how I always 'had a smile on my face'... which was not always the case. So nice to hear!

As for the weight issues, well I'm not letting it get to me this week as I know I'm bloated with TOM approaching. I know that I will reach my goals.

Elizabeth commented on my blog yesterday asking what I was going to do differently in September ... perhaps to move things along. Well I know my reality means that next weekend will be a huge party/celebration. But I have a week until we get there. So from here to then... as I leave next Thursday, I plan on getting back to a routine. It seems I've stopped my morning workouts to keep up with all my e-mails, blogs, team posts... but I'm ok with that. It means I now have to make use of the time after work to do activities with the girls and/or to make use of my newly setup workout room with my DVDs (as I have the TV there). I've only used it once since it's been setup - how shameful!!!

I really want to increase my weight training to concentrate on toning up and building more muscle mass. Being over 40 and reading articles lately, I know how important this is in the ever constant fight with our slowing metabolism. I know it CAN be done because I have some great role models on here (Caz you are one of my most inspirational ladies!! But there are so many fellow SP that are making Fit over Forty a common word - I am joining you there ladies!!)

We're experiencing some great weather finally and I'm taking advantage with my lunch hour walks. I have lunch 'dates' for Thursday with colleagues and Friday with my boss as she was in meetings on Thursday so 2 lunches for my b-day - what a treat! I wasn't expecting anything but with the nice weather, it will be nice to get out and enjoy and in great company at that!

My friend will not be able to meet up with me on the 19th as we had planned but other things have come up so we'll be busy nonetheless. I joked and said hope we get to re-connect before the year is out. I am amazed at how each of my weekends this month are busy... I have to be sure to include studying time in there too for my certification exam beginning of November... it starts this weekend!!! and then plans for daily.

Well, time to get ready for the day to roll - chicken breast almost out of the oven and lunches to be made.

Wishing everyone a Wicked Wednesday!! Keep on SParking!! And don't forget... Don't Sweat the SMALL Stuff when there is beauty all around you!!

    Hey Helene,
strength training won't just beef up your metabolism hun, it's essential to have strong muscles (not bulging) for a number of reasons, a safeguard to osteoporosis for one and it doesn't just do muscles good, it has a knock on effect for the whole body.

Just as you're getting decent weather we're experiencing Autumn and rain and high winds.

Have a great Wednesday

I would so agree with the strength training as a goal. It really does help with the metabolism plus you just feel good about (after a while). It is hard, however, to build body mass while dieting. But you can still revive muscles and get them stronger in the process and gain a bit of muscle mass.

Changing my Ticker - Getting a new perspective

Tuesday, September 01, 2009

So the new month begins and I'm going to FALL back into basics... I need to shake things up and starting with a visual of changing my ticker to show how many pounds I've lost and what I'm headed for! Ironic that in all I will lose the 50lbs that my doctor snickered about to me when I asked if I had to be on blood pressure meds for the rest of my life - NOT!!! But YES - I will in fact when I'm done have lost 50lbs!

Still plan on doing an official weigh in on Thursday to mark the beginning of my 43rd year. No matter what I'm going to be positive! This yo yoing has been frustrating but is a result of my own actions (or inactions).

We choose the life we live in every moment and I choose TODAY, NOW... To make a difference! Each day is a new life and I'm going to treat it as such!

Wishing everyone a Terrific Tuesday!!

The beautiful weather we're having is certainly making it easy to be thankful! To my "People in Ottawa" ... Enjoy the sunshine and get MOVING!!

Kissing August GOODBYE!!!

Monday, August 31, 2009

Well what a summer it's been (did we have one lol)... The weather wasn't the greatest... but my experience was so RICH ... rain or shine, I am very happy with all that I've experienced.

Having 41 days of ME time while my girls enjoyed a summer visit with their father. A 'holiday' month of July with visits and outings on my own. My weight loss progress was stalled but the new month is around the corner and once the wedding is done ... well let's see how we can wrap up the year!!

As I turn 43 and look back to the year since moving here (I can't believe it will be a year on Oct 28th)... I am in awe of the great things that have happened in my life. It was not all 'easy' but certainly well worth every effort!

I have gained some insight and strength, I have made more SP friends, I have initiated some meetings allowing me to know more people in my 'new home town'...

I am going to meet up with an old school friend in September (we haven't seen each other in almost 30 years or more I think lol). That's on Sept 19th and on Sept 20th my 3rd Meet & Greet with People from Ottawa!

I am going to a book club launch with Peggy McCole and going to hear Robert Proctor (one of the speakers of The Secret) on Sept 22.

My nephew's wedding on the 12... our birthdays this month (my sister's, my friends and my dearest friends parents 60th Wedding Anniversary).

Work is still fabulous!! Life is fantastic!!!

Thank you Dr. Dyer because YES - Change Your Thoughts... Change Your Life!!! I'm a real live testimonial!!!

Amazing experiences and all of which I'm so very grateful for.

Living the BEST Life!

Sunday, August 30, 2009

SCHATZI4MO commented how my blogs reflect me living my "best life" and you know what?! I am!! It's truly amazing how you can turn things around and truly live the life of your dreams when you set your mind to it!

This weekend was superb! I worked 3 hours on Saturday and accomplished some organizing that had been 'sitting' for some time and then enjoyed the company of Jodee for the evening and overnight.

I spent Sunday veggin' with my girls and feel so totally fulfilled with my life! I posted some old pics that I scanned on Facebook and it makes me realize how wonderful life is and how great memories are! Many of those pics are of people who have left this world... but they live on in my heart.

I did not weigh in this am... as I did not have my AF nights as I thought I would but that's OK! I am going to do the official weigh in/measuring on my bday as a GIFT to ME! Sundays are not a good weigh in day - so Thursday is going to be the new day!

I am feeling nostalgic as I approach my b-day and my 43rd year of life! My mom apparently used to say "life begins at 40" and I live this and have said this myself! She was a wise woman beyond my comprehension at the time...

I'm so grateful for all the gifts in my life.. and I look forward to September as a month of GIFTS with my bday, my sister's bday and my nephew's wedding! It's also the month where I get to attend the book launch with Peggy McCole and the "I Can Do It" movement from the Hay House... so much GOOD is coming my way!

The Law of Attraction is at work and Great Things are coming my way! I'm so glad to have all my SP friends with me on this journey!!

God Bless!!

thanks for the shout-out ... you made me blush emoticon

your mom was right ... my mom told me the same thing ... and i will tell my daughter too when she gets closer (at 18, 40 seems like forever far away). life truly does begin at 40 and just get better. as women, we grow into our own skin. we become very comfortable with who and what we are, what we've become and what we will be. the pressures of "fitting-in" disappear, or become less important. i've always been pretty grounded with self-confidence, but at 40 it soared to the roof.

i can truly say i don't want to go back in time ... being in the moment, this moment, with the anticipation of what's to come is pretty awesome. enjoy ~ hugs.
