...and loss.

Tuesday, April 03, 2012

I lost most of the weekend party food weight already. I promise I won't write a new blog updating my weight every day, but I just didn't want to leave the "Gain" blog as my most recent blog because it's already old news. :)

It's a beautiful sunny April day! Life is good!

I'm like you......I have to get that kind of stuff out of the house or else it's grazing time. Good job on getting yourself refocused. And hey..... you can blog about anything you want. Those of us that enjoy supporting you and following your progress enjoy reading about your thoughts and your successes and even your downers. It's what makes you real and not just a virtual illusion. Have a great day Susan and make all your choices count.

A lot of it is just water weight.... glad it's gone! And I am totally with you about getting stuff OUT of the house. We had friends over on Sunday night for a BBQ. Larry bought a 7 pound chocolate cake at Costco. There were 4 of us. Immediately after we each had a slice, I had him put the cake in the freezer in the garage. Out of sight, out of mind!

Gain

Monday, April 02, 2012

I didn't track this weekend, and I ate a lot of junky party food. I was up to 166.8 this morning. I knew I had to get the food out of here. I packed up most of it and brought it to school and put it in the teachers' room. I had Jess bring some with him, too. I just can't be around that stuff. I was back to tracking today and did fine, even though I'm still incredibly sleep deprived from the weekend. I even managed to pull off a good workout. But I really need to stay on track and keep up with the 2,400 calorie per day limit. I think I do best with a finite amount of time. I think there's about eight weeks until Memorial Day weekend...so...let's say I'll stay on track from now until then? I feel so much better about myself when I am taking good care of myself.

What's awesome is that although you enjoyed it, you knew to get rid of it when the weekend was over by sharing it at work. And I agree with FitGirl15... give yourself a day or so (I think you ALREADY posted it was gone!) and it will be gone! :)

I am eating easter candy, need to quit doing that! I might do a memorial day challange as well, since apparently Easter didn't work! We bought new bikes this weekend, so I am anxious to get back out after not going much last year. Good luck!

A gain of up to 5 pounds (for me) after a cheat day is no surprise! Hence I avoid the scale then! LOL I know it is mostly water weight that is easily lost again after a few days of solid water consumption and back to my healthy diet! (It gets the bowels moving too! lol)

I'm glad you feel so good about your tracking! Keep it up!!!

    No surprise there, huh?
But it was worth it!
It's good to have a goal like that.

Week 6 of 6 completed!!!

Sunday, April 01, 2012

Week 1 I lost 3.2 pounds, from 170.0 to 166.8.
Week 2 I lost 1.6 pounds, from 166.8 to 165.2.
Week 3 I lost 1.0 pound, from 165.2 to 164.2.
Week 4 I lost 0.8 pounds, from 164.2 to 163.4.
Week 5 I lost 0.8 pounds, from 163.4 to 162.6.

And now I've finished week 6! Reached the deadline strong! How'd I do?

Week 6 I lost 0.4 pounds, from 162.6 to 162.2.

So my total weight loss was 7.8 pounds in 6 weeks.

Is it weird that I'm not at ALL disappointed about the meager losses of the past three weeks? I've lost 2 pounds in the past 3 weeks and I'm not discouraged. Also, as you may or may not recall, when I set out to be on a plan for six weeks, I wanted to get to 154, i.e. the healthy BMI range, which would have meant losing 16 pounds in six weeks and instead I lost just under HALF of that, and again, I'm not disappointed. Why not? I'm not really sure. I guess I've been yo-yo dieting for so long that I know that there is no race to some finish line in weight loss, it just simply doesn't work that way. Also, it was good for my morale that there WAS a loss each week, even if the losses were little.

Also, even though I am clearly still overweight, I'm getting to be okay with how I look. The other day I went clothes shopping for the first time in FOREVER, because I needed something to wear to our party. I didn't try on anything in a numbered size, but most things I bought were size small with one medium, and then I only needed the medium to fit my chest so I can't complain. ;) I bought two long lightweight cardigans - one black, one white. I also got a ruffly coral and white sleeveless blouse, a pink tank (the medium), and....just when I thought I was done shopping...I had to get myself this turquoise wrap dress. I wish I had pictures to share. I ended up wearing the ruffly blouse, white cardigan, and jeans at the party.

The party was a great success! I was soooo stinkin' proud of my house and led tours over and over of the whole house all day. There was way too much food and alcohol though. Even though we had a great turnout during the day, a lot of people we thought would come at night didn't come or came early, and by night time we were getting sleepy and only had a handful of people still here. One of them though was my friend Allie, who looooves to party and who had assumed it was going to be more of a night party than a day party, so she came in the early evening with a bunch of food, drinks, games, decorations, and jello shots! She gave Jess a birthday crown, which he proudly wore the rest of the evening! He wouldn't wear the birthday sash she gave him though. One more person showed up late in the evening - a single guy named Mike - and the four of us went to a local bar. Well, as soon as Jess walked in wearing that crown, someone yelled, "Hey, Burger King!" but THEN the ENTIRE BAR broke out into the Happy Birthday song!! The atmosphere at that bar exemplified everything I love about where I live. Everyone is so friendly and everyone knows everyone. Mike, who was up until recently a bartender, knew several people who worked there, and then some man came up to me and in a sinister way mentioned the name of the school where I work as he was walking by. I freaked out because I assumed he was a parent of one of my students and he recognized me but I didn't recognize him, and maybe he was mad to see a teacher partying?? But then I realized I was wrong - one of the teaching assistants from my school is this guy's husband, and apparently she had mentioned that she knew me from school to him, and he'd said he was going to go talk to me, and she had told him no, she would come say hi to me herself, but he didn't listen! Haha. So it turns out that they had lived in my town (technically we don't live in a town but one of the "neighborhoods" of Boston, but it's really like a town of its own) almost their whole lives. So when we told them where we live, they wanted to introduce us to a neighbor of ours! Turns out this other woman who was in the bar lives two doors down from us and is so friendly! I don't even think they were there together - just everyone in the bar knew everyone else. Then, to add to the coincidence, a woman SHE was with happens to be a bus driver in the town where I teach! She drives some of my students! It was so fun. Then my brother showed up and we all stayed and played until closing.

Then (sorry this is getting long, but I want to share) we went back to my place, and I was trying so hard to get Allie and Mike to hook up. I've been wanting them to get together for years now. Well....last night I succeeded! They were our overnight guests in our guest room! Haha!! I'm so proud of myself. I really hope they end up liking each other for real. :)

My brother also stayed overnight, and then we went out to brunch this morning and my friend had to go to work but we kidnapped her dog and took him for a hike. Then afterwards I went for a jog. I have NOT been counting my calories this weekend - first time in six weeks - and there is a TON of junk food in my house. It all needs to get shipped off to work with Jess tomorrow because I can't really deal with having it here. I want to get back on track.

Where do I go from here? I'm not sure. As I mentioned, I'm still overweight at 5'6" and 163ish, so I think I'll stick with tracking and limiting to 2,400 or less most of the time. Between now and summer, maybe, or between now and becoming pregnant, whichever comes first I guess. How's that for a plan. Haha. I'm tired - slept 5 hours last night. Maybe I'll develop more of a plan later. Or maybe not. Because I kind of like what I've been doing for the most part, so why change?

Sounds like SUCH a fun weekend!! I'm glad you aren't upset that you didn't lose more weight - I think what you're doing is fine - you're still losing weight and we all know the slower it comes off, the more likely it is to STAY off!

I love being a matchmaker! I had a reputation for that in college! Hopefully, your friends do get together!

You are just one of those really amazing women Susan! I love your entire week-end recap- and I was hoping that you'd say those 2 would get hooked up when you first mentioned it- I had a feeling it was going there... well, maybe not to your guest room, but definitely a plus of having a big house-LOL.

I am really proud of you for working hard to loose the weight, without starving yourself and for enjoying your success rather than being disappointed about some elusive number- that's huge!

I think you are happy with how things are going because you know you've made alot of healthy changes in your life become every day habits and it's the way you want to live your life from day to day. The results will automatically follow, but having that kind of mind set is where we all want to be eventually Susan. You are just ahead of alot of us. Keep up the great work......and STAY AWAY FROM ALL THOSE LEFTOVERS!!!!

The party is this coming Saturday, March 31. It's a combination birthday party for my man (he's turning 30 that day!!) and open house because we bought a fixer-upper in August and now it's finally fixed up. At least, well, somewhat fixed up. Still plenty more to do.

So far, so healthy...

Thursday, March 22, 2012

Jess (Mr. SeppieSusan) is all better now and went back to work today, and so far I haven't gotten sick myself yet, so fingers crossed that all is well.

Don't make fun of me (at least not to my face), but I still use hotmail for my email and I can't seem to get into my email tonight! I know I have tons of blog subscription notifications and it's annoying that I can't get to them!

With this heat wave we've been having, my gym has been disgustingly hot. Is it too much to ask to turn on the air conditioning in the gym when the temps are in the mid-80s outside? Today was especially bad: the hot water hadn't been working (I shower at home so that doesn't bother me), so they shut off the regular water and the lights to fix it - in the middle of the afternoon while a bunch of people, including ME, were working out! So...emergency lights only, and no water to refill my water bottle when I quickly went through the two I'd brought because it was so stinkin' hot in there. Oh well. I actually managed to have a good workout despite it all! I did my usual strength training routine, and then afterward I went to a nature reservation on my way home for a quick jog. This reservation is pretty close to home and has tons of trails in the woods, but I'm freaked out about going there by myself and my hubby never has the time or inclination to go jogging with me. I just did a quick jog but still it's a little scary to think I'm out in the woods with no other people around, but yet I'm technically in the city of Boston where some no-gooder could be lurking! If it weren't scary, I'd go there for my jogs instead of sidewalks.

Ohhh, speaking of jogging - I have been joint-pain free lately! This despite my recent increase in running! I especially noticed it yesterday when I went for a 45-minute jog and had no adverse effects whatsoever! :) YAY. (And this is without having gone to get new shoes or seen a doctor because I'm the world's worst procrastinator.)

Sometimes, the warm weather really helps with the joint stuff! I always feel a lot better in the warm waether, because my body is more relaxed and my muscles aren't really all that stiff, so usually my body isn't pulled out of alignment all the time either.
I never run trails by myself - it's silly because it's a lot less dangerous in the woods "STATISTICALLY", but I get scared too- Partly about falling, breaking my leg or something and no one being able to ever find me-LOL- partly about a mass murderer, rapist or being mugged-LOL. You can make fun of me about it- my fear gets as bas as not running in the city park when it is dark in the morning... even though it is only 1 mile paved loop, because when you go towards the lake and no one's there... someone could run after you and you'd have to be quick to get away-lol. I mean, running is supposed to be relaxing, not stressing you out- so I don't care if that makes me ridiculous. I have however been able to run certain places by myself, having my cell phone and pepper spray handy== I think getting some pepper spray might be a great idea, along with letting someone know where you are at.

Anyways, glad you didn't get the bug Susan- have a great day!

Glad you aren't sick.....(knocking on wood). You are probably exercising so much you don't have time to be sick. Nice plan there Susan...lol.
Sorry about the bad gym day. Good for you for sticking it out and getting your routine done. Shows alot of dedication under those circumstances. Exercise is probably more enjoyable for you with less joint pain as well. Could be you are just getting healthier from all your hard effort and your body is thanking you.
Have a fantastic Friday and enjoy the upcoming weekend. Make all your choices count!
