Turkey Trot - Circuit Systems

Thursday, November 24, 2011

Went to the gym this morning for a special one-time only class called the Turkey Trot, but it turns out it was the same as a class usually called Circuit Systems. It's normally Tuesday nights so I may check it out again. It was different than my usual and pretty tough! I deserve a good Thanksgiving dinner now!

I am starting to get the baby bug, bad. We're going to a baby shower today...for a couple who met after Jess and I did, and married after Jess and I did...and yet they are having a baby and we are not. I had this big conversation in the locker room today with some women who were urging me not to wait too long...don't wait until after 35, they said...well, I'm almost 34 now, and a baby takes almost a year...and Jess now wants to wait until the spring to start trying, so I'll be at LEAST 35 for our FIRST baby. Ugh. I KNOW we can't afford it. But when can anybody ever afford it?!

OK, time to rush off to central MA for Thanksgiving! Happy Thanksgiving everyone! No seconds!!

No one can ever afford it, people just make it work. The reason they're probably telling you not to wait is because your chances of conceiving severely decline after 35.. like.. exponentially so :( That's what I'm afraid of too... I'm only 25 at the moment, but Jeff wants to wait until we are "financially stable" until we get married and then he wants to be together for a few years before we have a baby. He's got me counting on my fingers and looking at the clock and tapping my foot! I hear you, hun, but it's a totally personal decision that you two will have to make as a couple.

The baby bug...I had that big time too - several times :) I say if you wait til the perfect time it'll never happen! It definitely needs to be a two-person decision, but it's definitely time to begin thinking about it and prepping - even if you wait til spring to try! What an exciting time!

I know where you are coming from, Susan! Maybe you need to do some research and present to Jess how LONG it takes many couples to conceive!!! It doesn't happen as FAST for everyone as you'd think! My BFF tried for 4 years before they finally had their first baby!

It will happen when the time is right! I think, since you are in a loving relationship... anytime is a good time!

    Oh Susan,

I think it's totally normal for women our age to get the baby bug! I'm sure I've told you my secret baby wishes in the past, except my hubby pushed those off indefinitely. I really don't think that a few months are going to make a real difference and I totally agree with you that it's never really the "perfect" time for most people to have a kid- you guys are going to make it work financially- plus stuff like that usually works out in unexpected ways, right? Starting to get excited for you though- I say, enjoy this couples time and focus on stuff you guys can do that you might not easily find time for once the kiddo is here- trust me, its the little things.

Susan. What really is the difference between 34 and 35 only numbers. You are young fit and healthy and it will happen when you want it to. I think you will be an amazing mummy. Happy thanksgiving. I Had my children young(at first not really a choice) so I am sorry if I sound like I think it doesn't matter. I know what it is like when you really want something.

Cozy at Home

Wednesday, November 23, 2011

It's cold and rainy outside, but I'm indoors wearing my cozy socks inside my slippers. I went to the gym this morning for Body Pump and spinning (I'm still new to spinning and find it uncomfortable physically - that seat!) and then I went to buy a baby shower gift (a ducky outfit) and butternut squash, but I've been home all afternoon cleaning and cooking, while my husband and FIL were working on the house. So cozy! I made butternut squash to bring to Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow at my husband's aunt's house.

Yesterday was the end of my two-day work week, and I was unexplicably exhausted. I went to the gym after school for only a half hour (slow jog on treadmill), and then I came home...and had a binge. I didn't track it. I could have avoided it, but I did it and I am glad I got it out of my system. I KNEW I'd be back on track in the morning, with my usual healthy breakfast and gym routine. So I guess I'm okay with it, it's not a great thing to have done, but I am moving forward.

Happy Thanksgiving Susan! I wish I had your butternut squash recipe, because I need to make a veggie for this afternoon- yes, I am kind of last minute with this one-LOL

I hear you on binging- the thing that sucks with those is that sometimes, they get triggered from fatigue at the least expected times. I eat like crap when I am exhausted or burned out- I try to avoid both, but its hard to be aware all the time and it just takes you by surrise. While I have been lucky not to binge for quite some time - thank you God!- I do have days where I eat too much by continuing to graze, because I have this feeling of unsettledness. The other day, I ate 5 packs of fruit snacks in like 2 hrs, but I just kept going back- not because I was hungry, tired or whatever, just because I had this urge--- it's like, hello- where do you come from? but I alos have been lucky to pull it together usually, so it does not go on for too many days or too many times. It's definitely still there and it always might be, I guess I am accepted that part, now I am more focused on learning to keep it contained. Not sure if that's really the best strategy, but this year, I feel like its been working really well for me and I feel at peace about it.

Sorry for the detour I took you on on your blog-LOL I mainly wanted to wish you a Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Thanks for all your support and encouragement- it means a lot to me!

Sometimes I feel like the shorter weeks always go by the slowest! For only having a three-day week, I sure am exhausted.

Happy Turkey Day!

You know that frustration you feel when you see a higher number on the scale?

Monday, November 21, 2011

...and you were expecting to see a loss? Because you were doing everything right? You've been tracking your calories, making nutritious choices, drinking your water, getting your sleep, doing your cardio and strength training, and being all-around active (e.g., raking all afternoon), so you fully expect and deserve to see a loss?

But instead you see a gain, and you think, "That can't be right," so you get off the scale, recalibrate the zero, then get back on, and see the exact same gain you saw five seconds ago, and then you sigh, curse, and get all crabby.

That frustration.

Well, then you shrug and remind yourself, "I've been doing all the right things. I am living healhtfully and I can FEEL and SEE the results. I don't give a flying * what the scale says."

And you go on with your day.

Those scales can be such mood-changers! I prefer to measure myself and find others sources to measure my success. Glad to hear that it didn't derail your efforts and that you have continued on with your healthy journey!

NOt that I was expecting a loss but not a 13 pound gain! EEK! SO all I can do is soldier on! We can not beat ourselves up! We can do it-- whether we have 2, 20 or 200 to get rid of, it is not easy!

Love it. Good on you for telling that scale where to go....
I get soooo frustrated when this happens but as you say if you feel good and can notice changes do not rely on that pesky scale keep at it.

    so true!

Last time I saw a 1 pound gain when I was firing on all cylinders, I had lost 2 pounds of fat and gained 3 pounds of muscle. Maybe you need to throw your scale out and visit a Bod-Pod every 2 months instead.

The 0.2lbs that make the most difference

Sunday, November 20, 2011

We went out for dinner last night (something we rarely do these days) and today I was back up to 160.0. That's only a 0.2lb gain, but it's the difference between being in the 150s and the 160s. :( Oh well, I'll lose it again. I have many many many times, afterall.

Someone in my step class this morning told me I look like a runner. It was a wonderful compliment. :)

Did you know you can gain a pound by drinking a 16oz bottle of water?

Don't sweat the small stuff.

You must have some kind of crazy precision scale to know you gained 0.2 lbs! As long as I'm in a 5lb range, I'm happy! :D Glad you are having success with staying on track! And thanks for all the comments on my stress blogs!
