Do you love your fitness instructors?

Wednesday, October 26, 2011

There is an instructor at my gym who is totally awesome. :) She teaches Body Combat and Body Pump, and she is so motivating, friendly, and always totally on with her cueing. She's also perfectly fit and gorgeous. I always attend her classes, and when I find out she's subbing for someone else, I rearrange my schedule to attend! Do I have my first ever girl crush? Haha. Anyway, after spending 5:30-7:30 in her classes this evening, I finally went up to her and introduced myself. I've been taking classes from her since I joined this gym in March, and figured it was about time she knew my name. She was totally bubbly and appreciative when I told her she was one of the best instructors I've ever had, and she told me that I looked like I was getting really fit and muscular. I told her that I've gained weight lately, and that for me it's all about counting calories, and she did give me some advice, but nothing I haven't heard before: avoid extremes, let yourself eat that cookie if you want it (um...had four today, oops), 80 percent nutrition/20 percent exercise, muscle weighs more than fat. Yeah...I know that...I wish I knew how SHE eats. She has what to me is the ideal perfect shape. But I didn't ask.

Anyway, I was just feeling all warm and fuzzy from having that conversation and felt like sharing. I hope all of you get to experience an awesome fitness instructor too. It makes such a positive difference. :)

I think it's awesome that you have a super instructor. I used to train with a girl who was AWESOME. She had amazing arms and was super nice. She left my gym (sad face) and I haven't found anyone that I like quite as much.

Susan, it's always great when you have an inspiring fitness instructor. I haven't taken too many classes at my gym, but there is one spin instructor who is great!

lol this is so great. Having a good instructor that you mesh well with matters so so much! My instructor is a great guy (attractive, nice, tough) and a great trainer too (sets high expectations that he has confidence in me meeting). I even have his cell number to check in for when I do 5k's on the weekends. Nothin like an electronic pat on the back from the trainer, even if he's not there.

That's awesome! I have been "in love" with a few instructors over the years and not so in love with others. That said, I have come to the conclusion that I cannot or maybe do not want to eat the way other do- it seems to work for their body, not mine. But, it is always cool to find that someone that just motivates and inspires you!

Love this post! I hope I am that Instructor that otehrs feel this way about one day. I know I have Instructors I feel this way about, so I have some great role models. And even though I don't teach yet, I am in the front of the class in every class (sometimes right beside the Instructor) so everyone watches me and I can tell they see my energy. My Zumba Instructor pointed me out for the high intensity version. In my kickboxing class, everyone was looking at me and saying, "That's a fighter there!" It's not the typical cardio kickboxing class, we actually hit the Instructor's mitts. So cool!

Oh Susan! As a fitness instructor this post really hits home with me! :)
I have had many members threaten me, "Don't EVER leave! You are the best!" LOL
I guess I also inspire a lot of people! A good instructor will give you that extra PUSH to make it to the gym for that 6:30pm class, right??? When you might rather be watching your favorite show or catching up on some other household stuff.

Over time, keep talking to this instructor after classes! ...eventually Ask her about her diet! No doubt she will share how and what she eats. Likely she teaches MANY fitness classes per week, so eating the right stuff at the right time is crutial to her! And she'll gladly share that info to a curious ear!!!

i have followed an instructor i liked to a new gym when she had issues with management at our old gym. i couldn't let her go. the last time i changed gyms it was a very hard decision for me because i loved an instructor so much i was driving 30 mins to her classes but when we moved it didn't make sense anymore (i went gymless for a year).

I am a fitness instructor (zumba) and i have some girls that follow me wherever I sub too. i love them to death for it! It is so fun to have them every week in my classes too b/c they know all the routines and we are all dancing in sync together. Anyways, I love it when people introduce themselves to me after class. It shows that they really care and appreciate it. So i say- no harm done! Keep on enjoying that wonderful instructor! They are sometimes hard to find! :)

New House Renovation Pictures!

Sunday, October 23, 2011

This is my gorgeous hubby looking slightly less gorgeous than normal with our new shop vac:

I'm rinsing down the built-in book case just before I put the first coat of white paint on it. I'm also very happy that horrible shade of red is GONE from my home! (PS - I don't think I look TOO overweight here.) :)

This is my cutiepie screwing "buttons" into the drywall on the stair ceiling to prevent even more of it from falling down than what already has!

My MIL. She's a great painter.

That bookcase I was about to paint white a few pictures ago? Here's the after (never mind the horrible kitchen in the background!)

My honey's plumber butt. :) And the wider opening in the bookcase is where we're going to put our flatscreen TV:

Another yellow family room shot. That exterior door has since been replaced by something much prettier:

My MIL again, doing what she does best! This is, of course, our front door/steps:

Painting the dining room ceiling was a b*tch! And look how dirty the ceiling was before the paint! We still haven't agreed about a light to put there...we have two here...I don't like either one of them.

Dining room, post-wallpaper, pre-paint:

My BIL looking way too excited taking off ugly old floor tiles in the kitchen:

Look at how disgusting my kitchen is! :)

Me painting the kitchen cabinets. We're not going to keep them, but until we can afford new ones these needed paint to be sanitary enough to use:

More of me painting the cabinets. Here you can see our new kitchen lighting...and old everything else!

I did not like painting the dining room ceiling.

Here we both look frustrated because we're getting gray paint all over the white trim.

A rare shot of the man behind all the renovation work, my FIL. Here he is adding "picture frame" molding in our dining room. It looks fantastic. Oh, and he didn't know he was having his picture taken.

My MIL surprised us the other day by removing the kitchen wallpaper!

Tracking Calories Today

Friday, October 21, 2011

I decided that today was as good a day as any to track my calories, even though I haven't been on a roll with that lately. I think for me a good way to get back on track might be to allow myself to eat whatever I want, but track it. After a few days of that, I can start to tweak here and there to get the totals down, but first I have to re-establish the habit of simply keeping track.

Here are a couple pictures from my dad's birthday party.

This is my husband and me. He forgot to smile.

This is my dad and me, plus Teddy the Maltese and an Oreo birthday cake. And you also get to see the yellow color we picked for our family room. The room is not finished yet, as you can probably tell in the picture.

Happy Friday everyone!

You know for me, I track through thick and thin- it is the one consistent thing I can say I do- no matter what. Even if I don't have access to a computer, I track.. on a piece of paper. The weird thing is that I don't feel a slave to it or anything, but I feel like I can look back and pinpoint exactly what needs fixing, even if I ignore the fixing part- I can easily be in denial, but sometimes it's cool to see the trends, too.

I agree with everyone! You look fabulous- glowing and happy!!!

I'm overweight, but I'm happy anyway. I have trouble keeping my weight down, but that doesn't make me a failure. I have a successful career, probably the world's best husband ever, and a fixer-upper house that WE are turning into a beautiful home, day by day. I get endorphins from working out every day, and I love fall and foliage and pumpkins and boots. I don't need to wait until I get my weight down to be happy - I am happy now.

And then there was today...

Monday, October 10, 2011

OK, so tracking is hard on the weekends (and today counted as a weekend day - Happy Columbus Day) when we work on the house all day and people are always bringing us treats. Yes, this is an excuse, but I caved. Last night we went out for my dad's birthday and today there were cookies brought over by both of our moms, and brownies, and lots of other stuff. Yesterday I ran in the new neighborhood but today I decided to let painting be my cardio. Oh, we did take a walk...but it was to the ice cream shop. :) Anyway, no worries, tomorrow is the start of the work week and I can count calories then. :) I'm sure a few days of calorie counting will lead to happiness on the scale. :)

We sort of spontaneously decided to do a temporary kitchen makeover starting today because we can't afford to renovate the kitchen for a long time. I painted the cabinets white and my cute hubby ripped up the nasty vinyl floor tiles.

I only got a new kitchen because we added on! It does take time and money, but when it is done, it is nice. ALthough you'll never be done because by the time everything gets done, then the first things finished usually need something done to them! The joys of home ownership.

YOu can get back on track. It is hard when you have yummy food in front of you. I caved and ate two pieces of pie on Sunday that my mom had brought over. I was back on track yesterday.

I think temporary renovating is a perfect plan- my house is temporarily furnished- for the last 10 yrs, but eventually, when the budget allows- my new, matching furniture will feel very rewarding. We also did a temp kitchen job when we lived downstairs- it's cool how much a bit a of renovating can do to the comfort level :-)
