Happy

Sunday, October 16, 2011

I'm overweight, but I'm happy anyway. I have trouble keeping my weight down, but that doesn't make me a failure. I have a successful career, probably the world's best husband ever, and a fixer-upper house that WE are turning into a beautiful home, day by day. I get endorphins from working out every day, and I love fall and foliage and pumpkins and boots. I don't need to wait until I get my weight down to be happy - I am happy now.

    I am listening!
Being present in my life, making good choices most of the time and just being involved in creating a life I love is Sooo much more satisfying than measuring myself by the scale!

And then there was today...

Monday, October 10, 2011

OK, so tracking is hard on the weekends (and today counted as a weekend day - Happy Columbus Day) when we work on the house all day and people are always bringing us treats. Yes, this is an excuse, but I caved. Last night we went out for my dad's birthday and today there were cookies brought over by both of our moms, and brownies, and lots of other stuff. Yesterday I ran in the new neighborhood but today I decided to let painting be my cardio. Oh, we did take a walk...but it was to the ice cream shop. :) Anyway, no worries, tomorrow is the start of the work week and I can count calories then. :) I'm sure a few days of calorie counting will lead to happiness on the scale. :)

We sort of spontaneously decided to do a temporary kitchen makeover starting today because we can't afford to renovate the kitchen for a long time. I painted the cabinets white and my cute hubby ripped up the nasty vinyl floor tiles.

I only got a new kitchen because we added on! It does take time and money, but when it is done, it is nice. ALthough you'll never be done because by the time everything gets done, then the first things finished usually need something done to them! The joys of home ownership.

YOu can get back on track. It is hard when you have yummy food in front of you. I caved and ate two pieces of pie on Sunday that my mom had brought over. I was back on track yesterday.

YOU CAN DO IT!!!

I think temporary renovating is a perfect plan- my house is temporarily furnished- for the last 10 yrs, but eventually, when the budget allows- my new, matching furniture will feel very rewarding. We also did a temp kitchen job when we lived downstairs- it's cool how much a bit a of renovating can do to the comfort level :-)

So far, so good.

Sunday, October 09, 2011

It's amazing how well tracking my calories works for me. I don't even need to eat all that healthfully (had ice cream for dessert last night, and butternut squash with butter and brown sugar for lunch), or really limit my intake much. All I have to do, it seems, is track, and the scale moves in the right direction. I was 163.4 yesterday, tracked and ate about 2,400 calories yesterday, and was 160.4 today. Amazing.

(Side note - I've been having smoothies for breakfast almost every day for years, but this morning I made my husband & me Trader Joe's pumpkin pancakes with real maple syrup. OMG. Not exactly health food, but I tracked it so I think I'll be OK!)

Susan, great job! I'm happy that you are getting results so fast. And OMG, can you say jealous that you can lose weight on 2400 calories a day?? Even with all of my mileage, I'd be the size of a house at 2400 calories! Lucky! Enjoy it!

I'm sure I've said it before but I'm oh so jealous of your calories! If I ate 2400 calories I would be up three pounds the next day, not down. Man! I'm struggling with my last 15 pounds because I'm dying on 1200-1300 calories a day. Maybe I need to try ramping my calories back up a bit but I'm scared to do it this close to the cruise! Hmmm. But enough about me - I'm so excited for you! Great job getting back on track!!

My New Rules

Saturday, October 08, 2011

Track everything I eat (with the level of specificity I was using earlier in 2011, NOT the measure-crazed methods I've used less recently)

Eat reasonable portions at meals and mostly fruits and vegetables for snacks.

Make one or two (adjust as needed) calorie-counted, batch-cooked recipes per weekend

Drink more water!

My rewards for following these rules will be losing the pounds I've gained over the past couple of months, ensuring that I don't get too big for my pants, letting my muscles show better by having less fat hiding them, running faster, and feeling much better, especially at night. Oh, and of course having my husband be proud of me and attracted to me. :)

The Typical Pattern :(

Monday, October 03, 2011

I'm going to make this short, but I've noticed that every time I gain weight back and write a blog about a vague plan to get back on track, I always seem to gain even MORE before I actually do anything about it. I'm all the way up to 164 today. My weight hasn't been this high since last winter. :(

Hang in there. For me the key is to not give up. Sounds like you are saying you need a very SPECIFIC rather than vague plan to get back on track. The ability to get back on track is one of the most important skills for long term weight management. If it takes you a couple tries, but you get better and better at getting back on track, consider that a significant success.

Thanks for your comment on my blog. No, I don't think I have arrived. I know it will take commitment and effort every day, or almost every day, for the rest of my life. And I'm okay with that.

Best wishes for a happy journey to lifetime health and fitness!!

it's great to know that about yourself! Sadly, I need to post a similar blog tonight--- but I fully intend to restock my healthy kitchen, make a huge salad for dinner, & pack an amazing lunch for tomorrow before I do! I need to be specific about my commitments & get myself back on track. If you need to throw out any crappy food that's snuck into your home, this would be a good time to do it. As for me, I need to pack my meals and snacks--- cool it on eating out for a while!
