I wanted to make Spanish Rice to go with our Spinach and Black Bean Burritos this week. I am cleaning out the kitchen, and I was out of rice. I had two bags of quinoa! I just substituted the quinoa for the brown rice. I was surprised that even the cooking instructions were the same. The exception was letting the quinoa set covered for 15 minutes, off the heat after it was done.
Delicious! I think I like it better than the brown rice I usually make it with.

Mostly size 8. There are TWO pairs of Land's End jeans, one black, one olive. That's my favorite jeans colors. There are some nice size 8 Land's End shorts. There were things I could wear. A RED, dressy sweatsuit. I immediately bagged up the extra large I have been struggling to keep up the last few weeks. It's going to Goodwill my next trip to Bartlesville. There were 4 or 5 pairs of exercise shorts. I don't remember having all those! In those days I was running pretty good distance almost every day. I found a navy dress I can wear. It's kind of short. It needs some navy leggings.
Finding those two pairs of jeans was so motivating. I have a tangible goal I can touch, feel, hold. Maybe I will sleep with them under my pillow!

I almost quit. For several days last week I almost said, "Enough! I have lost enough weight. I can be happy here for the rest of my life." There were several days last week I didn't log into Spark. There were several more days that I didn't track my food. Interesting....I still kept track of my water intake in my planner. Habits. And that is a healthy one to have.
Despite making a lot of changes to the way I eat and the way I cook, I need to make more. Being the person I am, I had to whine about it. Po, po, pitiful me. (That is one of my favorite songs....Linda Rondstadt version.)
Here goes. I changed my goal weight date from August 1, 2013 to November 18, 2013. The line graph is MUCH more in sync with my weight. The projected deadline looks doable. It's a realistic goal. I was recently diagnosed with a bone spur. No impact exercise of any kind until it heals. The pool is still closed, and I am not going to bike on this ice. That leaves my physical therapy exercises, which do tone muscle. I feel so much better when I do them regularly. They don't burn many calories. (Lay on the floor and squeeze muscles. My youngest cat goes crazy. I burn more calories moving him out of the way than I do with the exercises. He makes it fun.) Anyway, weight loss will be slow until I can get back to walking and low impact aerobics on my no swim days.
I have gathered up a small group of my favorite extra large tops that are now too big for me. I have washed them for the last time, and I have hung them in the laundry room to be ironed and taken to a consignment clothing store. They are really good clothes, gently used. I don't want to grow back into them, and it would be nice to get some money out of them.
I have brought in a tub of smaller clothes from the garage. These were things I couldn't part with when I gained weight. I'm going to go through the tub and see if anything will fit now. I think it's all 10's and 12's. I'm wearing size 12 jeans now.
I'm going to make my food tracker public. I feel humiliated already.
Reward system. When I lose 5 pounds (Weight will be 148.), I am going to buy some Eddie Bauer tee shirts I have been wanting. When I lose 10 pounds (Weight will be 143.), I am going to have a popcorn and movie night here at home. Me, DH, a scary movie, and a tub of oil popped popcorn with nutritional yeast. Until then no popcorn allowed. (It's my new danger food. It has taken the place of chips.) I will have a popcorn and movie night for every 10 pounds I lose. Other than that, no popcorn.
About a week after Easter I am going to start using the Spark Meal Plan. I will do this until the weather turns cold this fall.
For the time being eat at the lower end of my calorie range. Do the physical therapy exercises. Clean out the fridge, freezer, and pantry. Use what you have on hand to prepare healthy meals.
One day at a time. One change at a time. Patience, practice, praise. No whining.....

I know. It's old. I didn't do aerobics back then. I was an athlete. I swam a mile a day. I road my bike everywhere I went, and I ran. Aerobics videos were lame.
That was 30 years ago. To help me get through withdrawal from the pool being closed for the next month I ordered the Sweatin' to the Oldies collection. They came today, and I just finished my first session with Sweatin' to the Oldies 2. I am sweating, and the floor work was good too.
What I learned from this experience is that I need to buy some good sports bras, and I need to vacuum.....
It was fun, and I loved the music.

I just might be getting the hang of this.
As you know I HATE eating meals with no hot food, especially on cold days. I had dreaded today. No hot food except for egg whites for breakfast. The weather forecast says today's high will be in the low 30's. I think that's cold.
Soup for lunch just sounded so good, and I was none too enthusiastic about today's snack, so I checked out the soup supply in the pantry. Progresso Vegetable Classics: Minestrone. Perfect. I unchecked the snack boxes and put in the minestrone soup. The calorie count was basically the same. I opened the can and put it on to heat.
Hummus and cheese sandwich. I like cheese, and I like hummus. Too bad it's cold.
I sprayed the griddle with some Emeril butter flavored spray. I loaded the bread with the hummus and put the cheese on top. Voila. Grilled hummus and cheese. It was delicious, and it was perfect with the soup.
Now I am sitting here with a cup of tea - no sugar. This is a new behavior for me, and I am out of my beloved peppermint tea, so I am just drinking plain old tea. I am missing the sugar, but I can live without it.
We had intended to only eat the Spark Menu this week, but as I am planning next week's grocery list I notice I'm using the Spark Menu a lot more. I'm just swapping out some of the main dishes with recipes I have in the freezer.
I know there are a lot of people out there trying to lose weight that don't like to cook. The cold meals are easy to fix, and they are very fast. I love to cook. I am retired, and I have time to cook, so I really enjoy cooking.
You can just about bet there won't be any cold meals on our table next week.
