The Day Has Finally Arrived And I Have Given Birth

Wednesday, November 04, 2009

I figure with a title like that everyone in Spark will come running to see what I had! emoticon

What I had was the start of something that I had never done and it turned into something that I love to do. As of 1 pm this afternoon central time my first stained glass project was finished. It has had it's bumps, dips, hills, and a lot of 4 letter words. It has caused be to use several band aids, burn ointment and did I mention a lot of 4 letters words? I learned that a diamond glass grinder makes a fantastic nail file, but you should hold your finger at a certain angle so it leaves the nail with a great shape instead of just jamming it in and having a big dip in it. I learned that no matter how careful you score the glass it will break where it's not supposed to and cause you to use, yes that's right, 4 letter words. I learned that adding the patina to the solder makes something that looks very bad, look absolutely beautiful. That means I also learned never to judge the finished product until it is finished! My hubby learned first hand that I talk to the inanimate objects that I am working, on, with, and around, and that the conversation is not always a nice one. He also learned that I ask them questions. He had enough presence of mind not to mention the fact that they did not answer , I answered for them. It has been a double treat having all my friends here at Spark in on this venture with me. It is great to know that you not only support your friends on their weight loss journey, but any other journey they may take as well. OK, I know you are just itching to see the finished product, so without further ado;

I got my buddy Joshua to take the pics and I hope you enjoy them. I will tell you this morning at 4 am if you would have told me this piece would look so good I would have called you crazy!

Day 3 of new business has been thinking about how I want the flier and business brochure to look while working on the window. I found if I thought of something else other than the way the solder looked at that moment, it didn't bother me as much.

There you have my day today. Now I am going to go stretch out and rest by back as I have been hunched over most of today.

Have a great afternoon and evening!

Wow. Wow. Wow. Your blog, your art, finding your "niche" and "voice" (i.e., vocation) in the world - not to mention your humor - leave me in awe. More than anything, I rejoice in flow. You've tapped into Judy beyond the woman. I can only imagine how your neighbor's wife is going to rejoice in his gift, via your heart and hands.

This made me smile: "My hubby learned first hand that I talk to the inanimate objects that I am working, on, with, and around, and that the conversation is not always a nice one. He also learned that I ask them questions. He had enough presence of mind not to mention the fact that they did not answer , I answered for them." More than anything, it helps me to know you.

When we first met, I shared my response to your beautiful yard. Now, I see the inside of your home is equally beautiful.

Thanks so much for the invitation to share in your triumphs. I am so jazzed for you!

Judy Sunshine not only takes root, she blooms!

My husband (for those who haven't read my comments-is a professional artist) says he thinks you did a lovely job and should be proud of yourself! ... and I didn't even tell him this was your first stained glass piece.

He made a comment that I thought I'd pass on - he thought that a piece like this would make a lovely room divider (between rooms) where people could look at it from both sides.

I liked it ... but his opinion (in this area only) tops mine every time :D

I knew you'd get it right! And you did! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

(The birth pangs just sounded way too much like my hubby's to NOT produce something really good.)

Another Day Gone

Tuesday, November 03, 2009

Today has been spent trying to solder the stained glass and it has made me unhappy. I don't think it looks all that good and I'm driving myself crazy trying to bring it up to my standards. I decided it was time to just stop and start again in the morning. I lost a couple of hours work time this morning waiting on a possible new day care client. She was supposed to be here at 9 with her child for an interview and never showed. I called and left a message which she returned around 4:30 this afternoon. Glad I am smart enough not to wait that long on someone. I also didn't wait 2 hours, but by the time I got things prepared for her arrival and then did wait, I lost close to that amount of valuable solder time.

I am still tossing business names around and have spent time today working on business concepts and trying to think of catchy tag lines. This must be the reason I never went into advertising. Takes me too long to come up with something catchy!

I need to go find some information on how to make solder look better, so I'm going to sign off and hit the books.

You all have a great evening!

Egads.... So you want your solder to look perfect according to your standards. Nothing wrong with that. Everyone who has done anything knows that it takes practice. Nothing wrong with admitting you are in the learning stage. That was brave of you to step out with an "I can do it" attitude from the get-go.

Egads again.... You already have a thriving business and deal with people (not things) and waiting occasionally on someone else is part and parcel...

Now you are ambitious enough to start a new business ( which I can see you being extremely successful with) and need to find a name. You will be the draw and word of mouth will be your calling card. The name is not as important as what you are offering.

You are not being indecisive or weak or confused or whatever. You have a lot of irons in the fire at once. One thing at a time and they will all get done. On time, When you need them done. The way you need to do them and no one else can determine those things but YOU.

WTG Girl Friend.

Well, this is the first time adventuring into the world of stained glass. It is tough... I have watched my neighbor do this many times and like every new task, it just takes time and practice. I know you will conquer this skill too!! emoticon

Just relax about the business name. The name is realy the least important thing... concentrate on the other aspects of your new business and the name will come easily after all the other details are in place. emoticon

2 Down 28 To Go

Monday, November 02, 2009

This month may not be as bad as I had first envisioned. I did get outdoor chores done and some inside ones as well.

I just got back from a run to Bartlesville to get solder for the window. My wonderful hubby told me I could get it at any hardware store here in town, Wrong! Tomorrow will be finish window and get it ready to move across the street on Wednesday! I' m so excited!

Here is the business assignment part of this blog. What do you all think about this for a name? "The Inner You" Give it to me straight, I'm a big girl I can handle it.

Sorry, no pictures of the concert tonight. I thought his phone would download them to the computer but it won't. I will have to send them to an album and get them from there. This will take awhile and I should get this done tomorrow.

This morning when I went for my walk I saw the most amazing thing. There was a flock of snow geese flying low overhead and the moon was so full and bright, that it illuminated them against the dark sky in such away that they appeared to be glowing. It was one of the most breath taking sights I have seen in a long time. The way they were acting I'm sure they were tired and looking for a place to land. I'm also pretty sure they flew on the next 3 miles and landed on or around the Elk City Reservoir. There are usually 1,000's of them around when the migration gets heavier.

I am so thrilled that more and more of you are having such tremendous success! I love hearing about how you beat back the temptations and put forth the extra effort to make your goals happen. You should all be so very proud of yourselves, I know I am!

To everyone that have sent me goodies and left comments on my page and blogs. Thank you, I truly appreciate them all. I know I don't always get back and tell you that personally, it's not because I don't care, I just usually run out of time. I'm sure you know how it goes, I take a quick look at my notices and say to myself, OK, later when you come back and have a little more time go thank that person. Need I say more?

I need to go get things ready for tomorrow. You all have a great evening!

1st Day Of What May Be A Very Long Month

Sunday, November 01, 2009

I titled this blog thus because I have been handed a thirty day challenge and because it involves thinking and research the 30th day may be a long way in the future, but then again the time may just fly by. Time will tell.

I will get this out of the way first, so I can go on to fun things. Each day I need to report to all my friends what I did that day in preparation for starting a consulting business. Believe it or not I do think and work on this some everyday, I am just not vocal about it, now it seems I need to be vocal about it. If you all remember I was stuck on what to do so I asked for ideas and I got loads of them and they were wonderful. Now I'm stuck on a name. If the business doesn't have a name how can it be born? I have tossed some around and shared some with a friend. She has given some back to me, but so far there hasn't been one that just said this is it pick me. So here is your homework. I think women are powerful, some just don't know that, I think women are full of shining light, some just haven't turned the bulb on yet, I think women are independent free thinking entities, some just haven't used their brain yet. With this said please give me some of your ideas on a name to go with all this.

Now the fun stuff. I took Joshua to his first concert last night. I was very surprised. I really didn't know the group Smashmouth that well. I hear a song, I like a song, but I don't always know who is preforming. I have XM radio in my truck and they don't do a lot of song intros. Turns out I knew most of their songs and they are ones I really like. I knew they did the Shriek theme song, and a Monkeys remake, but that was all I knew. We really enjoyed ourselves. He found out that when there is a song that has a great beat it doesn't bother Mom to jump up in the aisle and move to it. I'm sure I embarrassed him the first time, but when he looked around and saw a bunch of other people following my lead, he cut lose and showed them how it was done. I'm surprised our neighbor from across the street hasn't sent me an email on my conduct last night, they were sitting 2 seats from us and never moved. This is the same neighbor that I'm making the window for. He is really funny and witty so I've just been waiting. I did not know we would be able to take a camera, so many of these things you can't, so I didn't, turned out you could. I did take some pictures on Joshua's phone, but have to download them. He is gone with it so maybe tomorrow I will get them posted. I do have some pictures of us before we left. I also have some before and after of me. So without further delay here they are.

These are me before makeup. I told you Kat I would get you a scary picture!

These are of the house after I decorated for Thanksgiving. Sorry I didn't take any Halloween ones!

Now I know I go on about how I hate to sew and it drives me crazy. Well, that doesn't mean I don't know how or haven't done any. This turkey is something I made about 15 years ago. Since it is one of the few things I have sewn he will be put out even if there is only one scrap of brown and orange material left!

These next few are us right before we walked out the door to go to the concert. Yes, I am a mean mother and we walked.

OK, this is a mistake, trying to get the timer set.

This is my after makeup shot.

I finally learned how to get the timer to set on this blasted camera.

There you go. When I get the ones from his phone I will post them. I don't know how good they are, it was dark and then it would be bright, and I don't know that much about the camera on his phone. I will share tho.

Have a great Sunday evening.

About the phone...does it have a micro-mini chip in it that is removable? If so you take it out, put it into the reader, and download. That simple.

Love the pics!

I love the pictures. Makes me want to decorate my house for Thanksgiving right now! Love the turkey! You made that? Wow, impressive. As for the company name, let me think about it...if I come up with something, I will let you know. Assuming that you need to incorporate, etc. so you want to get it right and not change the name. We went through that with our company...what a PITA:-)

Glad you had a good time at the concert. I took Bren to see Bruce Springsteen last year and he had to leave early because he had a headache (before we went but forgot to tell us) but my friend and I embarrassed him royally by dancing. Seems "old" people don't do that LOL

    SEK:

An idea re the name ... why don't you choose a temporary/tentative name. Writers do it all the time when they're working on a manuscript; they call it a "working title" and they all say it keeps them focused but gives them the flexibility to change it if/when a better idea comes along.

Looks like you had a great Halloween; I spent mine cleaning bird cages and doing laundry emoticon I did get a lot done though!

October In A Nut Shell

Saturday, October 31, 2009

This is an exercise we do on a couple teams that I co-lead. I was very good this month and followed the format. I usually get off and just write, but not this time.

October:
1) What I accomplished
1. I have accomplished to drop 4 more pounds, stay on track with calories and finally go buy a smaller pair of jeans. I have also accomplished much more in my life besides the eating as healthy as I can and getting rid of a few more pounds. I got this monster house completely painted and learned something new. I bought a book and taught myself how to make stained glass objects. The first one is almost completed and when it is ready for delivery you will all get to share in my glory.

2) What I fell short on.
2. Since the weather has changed and my very physical outdoor work has stopped, Iím not getting the same type of exercise. I think this is one reason the weight loss slowed down.

3) What I learned.
3. I learned that I have to re-evaluate how I am doing things in order to continue to be successful. I am in the process of doing this now and it is still in the planning, but when I get done, it will be full steam ahead.

November:

1) What I want to improve:
I want and need to improve my exercise program so I get the same results now that I have in the past.

2) What will I have to do in order to accomplish this.
Iím going to have to try new and different things until I hit upon the right combination. This will take a few weeks of trial and error but I will get there.

3) What negative judgments on myself do I need to let go of to help me realize this accomplishment.
I am very self critical when it comes to my performance; be it exercise, painting, writing it doesnít matter what the task is. I always feel I could have done more or something different to make the end result better. I will work on not being so critical and just being OK, in how I perform.

Hopefully later tonight or early morning I will be back with a more true to me type blog, but this one was requested and I was happy to comply.

Don't let all the ghosts and goblins get you tonight!

Happy Halloween!
