Took a Spark break

Saturday, October 06, 2012

But I'm back with good things: New exercise, added to existing exercise, and my favorite team is in the WNBA Eastern conference finals. Those are the plusses.

Are there Minuses? Yes, Iím on a weight plateau and my muscles ached from new exercise. These are temporary conditions. The aches are almost gone. I hope that when I weigh in on Monday a pound or two will also be gone.

Its important to take a break when you need it, so good for you! Last night's game was great. Not your prefered outcome, I know, but a very good game.I'd bet that they can win again at home and move on, though.

A very nice gift

Thursday, August 23, 2012

My daughter gave me something priceless yesterday morning. A pair of jeans she'd "slimmed out of."

Tuesday when we went to a basketball game I was complaining about my baggy pants and griping that it was time to (ugh) go clothes shopping.

So Wednesday she came into my room carrying the jeans she'd worn on Tuesday night. "Uh, they're getting really loose. Want to try them on?" I said "ok" with not much enthusiasm or hope because they are a size 12 short. Wow! They slid right on and I could zip and button them...all while standing up!

So here's the deal. She originally got them at Kohl's and she says they run a bit large and have a little stretch to them. So I'm probably not a size 12 in all brands.

But still, It sure feels good to be able to wear jeans again.

Just having them fit motivated me to head to Goodwill. Since she is also ready for another size, we headed out together.

Whoohee! I tried on a pair of Liz Clayborne size 12 -- too snug. She tried them on--too loose. But I found a pair of the Dress Barn pants that I love, size medium and they fit fine. So I can get rid of the baggy large ones that I've been wearing. Also found a pair of light green pants and a nice top to go with them.

Then, because it was a gorgeous day, we went to the Blue Oar (an outdoor restaurant on the Connecticut River) and had Lobster rolls. A bit of a splurge on calories, etc., but I gotta have at least one lobster roll each summer. Plus we stopped at a produce stand on the way home and got salad stuff for dinner.

A thoroughly pleasant day!

And today? I put on my "new" skinny jeans and a top (size medium!) and went and got a haircut.

Tonight is a Connecticut Sun fan party at the casino and I have something to wear! Something that fits!

Motivate me to shop

Wednesday, August 01, 2012

I hate shopping... almost all kinds of shopping... but most particularly clothes shopping. UGH!

Being overweight is not the reason. I hated clothes shopping when I was twenty years old and weighed 125 lbs.

I just don't like anything about clothes shopping. I groan at the thought. My back stiffens when I walk into the store. I cringe when a clerk approaches. The other shoppers annoy me. The styles and colors offend me. The racks are too close together. If I make it to the dressing room I feel trapped. By the time I've tried a couple of things on, indecision sets in.

Sometimes I actually buy something. Often I love it so much that it becomes my "uniform" and I wear it to death and wish I'd bought several more while I was at it. Of course I didn't know this at the time and when I go back they no longer have the item.

My pants are saggy, my blouses blouse too much, my jackets are roomy.

I have to go shopping and I have nothing to wear to go shopping in.

Olympic temptations--one day down

Sunday, July 29, 2012

Whew--got through 4 basketball games and snippets of other sports yesterday without overdoing the snacks. Hands too busy with remote and mouse. The live computer access kept freezing and I had to keep restarting it. It was especially bad during the Canada/Russia women's basketball game. Glad the US/Croatia game was on TV.

Not watching much today. Did watch a couple of men's bb games. No snacking as I got up late and was eating brunch while the game was on.

Question from yesterday: How many calories does overuse of the remote control burn?

Olympic temptations

Saturday, July 28, 2012

Am watching women's basketball on laptop and women's volleyball on tv. Double snacking temptation. Nothing like eating while watching other people exercise.

We cleared the house of unhealthy snack options. But still...there is a temptation to go overboard on the healthy stuff. So I'm drinking water like crazy but it lacks the crunch I crave. (Dentist said "Don't crunch ice cubes!")

Have to go to CVS later to pick up my 'scripts.

Must avoid snack and food aisles. Must avoid. Must avoid....MUST!
