Fighting off the flu bug that flew into our house last night.....

Friday, August 26, 2011

UGH.
Woke up to my daughter yelling for me at 4a.m!!! Now she's 17 and it's rare that she "needs me" anymore...so when she called I literally hit the ground running out of bed!!
The flu bug had hit her hard (poor kid...last few days of summer holiday too...)
Well long story short I've been working on not as many hours of sleep as I typically get a night ~ and determined to keep my workout date with myself, I was out the door just after breakfast for Zumba.
UGH.
I hit the wall energy wise right at the 1/2 way mark and just couldn't get my feet moving! I literally turned into a pillar of cement and just stood and wiggled....(and jiggled...)
Here it is almost 5pm and I'm finding myself staring at the walls....and I know that if I crawl into bed for a snooze I will be done for the rest of the night.
My daughter? ~ Well she's spent the day reading, snoozing, texting and staying pretty quiet.
Me? I'm eating and drinking everything that will keep the flu bug from descending upon me.....I'm into countdown mode as I return to work on Tuesday...................................
.....UGH.

For me, it's a cold that my DS brought home from work this week. emoticon I've spent the last 2 days not doing much of anything; skipped Zumba the other night. Yesterday I watched movies with DS, read, and snoozed on the couch. This morning is a outdoor Zumba event, and I'm going even tho I still feel lousy. I still feel like I could curl up on the couch and fall back to sleep. emoticon

Hope you are all feeling better soon! emoticon

I've had it too. A whole week of my holiday has been wrecked. Honey, lemon and ginger with a nip of whisky in warm water is soothing.

Get well soon. emoticon

I am sorry to hear about your day. I wasn't woken up at 4am and yet I too have felt like my legs are concrete blocks all day. Even now I feel like I can barely keep my eyes open, and it's only 7:45. I hope your immune system defends you, and that tomorrow is a new, bright, shiny day full of health and vibrant energy.

Woo Hoo!!! I rocked that killer hill on my bike again!!!

Thursday, August 25, 2011

Okay ~ I did it and I wasn't gasping quite as badly as I was last week when I road up that hill!!!!
I still have to ride the majority of it in my lowest gears on my bike....but I did it without stopping!!!!
I love these successes!
Heading out blackberry picking....(they are calling to me....) Blackberries and french vanilla ice cream is the usual summer treat...this summer I need to find something else to pair them with that will fit the bill!
Time to search recipes!
Any suggestions??

Eating Edamame at 1:15 in the morning....weird.

Wednesday, August 24, 2011

School must almost be back in session for me. I've begun to plan my upcoming classes in my head at night when I should be sleeping! This is the norm....it takes me 2 weeks to wind down when school is done for the summer, and then equally I began getting ready for school approx 2 weeks before we return! I'm now at the one week countdown stage............
Earlier I finally surrendered to my insomnia and got out of bed ~ I thought that if I wrote some of my thoughts down I could gradually relax. Well everything is written down, I'm still wide awake...and hungry so here I am writing in my blog and munching on hot edamame!
Tuesday (yesterday) was a bit of a washout for me as I had a very lazy morning after driving so much on Monday and all of the hiking etc. I went to my Doc appt for a quick check up and I wanted to show him my nutrition and fitness tracker to see if he could suggest anything different. (His suggestion? ~Keep doing what I was doing and look at the other markers that show improvement versus using the scale for validation!) ~Where have I heard that before....ah yes...it has become my mantra (altho I seem to be ignoring it lately).
After my appt my hubby and daughter picked me up and we went to watch Rick Mercer swim with the salmon....brrrr...(there is no way I would jump in that cold river with fly fishermen casting lines all around and snorkle downstream to watch fish!!)
We continued on for a bit of a drive (2 hours later) I sat in the back letting my daughter navigate for her dad for a change (logging roads looking for waterfalls)
I could hardly wait to get out of the jeep....ugh...a tad carsick and as a result I didn't eat dinner and went to bed early!
So I guess that explains eating edamame at 1:15-1:30 in the morning!

Me too! Esp the night before the 1st day...some years nightmares...lol!
I usually start nesting and cleaning every draw/closet before school starts and I even iron!!! This year I only did a little...too hot I think?
They took away one of my art classes and gave me another Cooking class emoticon
That class is a nightmare in it self!
Love edamame too...better choice than pizza as Heather says.
Love ya

Edamame, YUM! I've found myself eating a dill pickle almost every night after dinner! Somehow it curbs my cravings and adds very little in the way of calories to my tracker. I realized this week exactly how much time I usually spend eating. I like being on SP instead though!

I LOVE Edamame beans! YUM and so much better for you than chocolate cake in the middle of the night... or Pizza! LOL

I know how it is to have such a busy mind you can't sleep... it can really wreak havoc on a girl! Hope sleep comes more easily tonight!

The morning after a day on the West Coast of our Island!

Tuesday, August 23, 2011

We woke up to pounding rain yesterday morning ~but having lived on this island for 15 years, a little liquid sunshine has never stopped us from getting out and about!
We drove the 3 hours across the island to arrive and be greeted by fog and a light mist!
The 2 girls (my daughter and niece) were heading into the water to surf and my mum and I wandered the massive expanse of beach cheering them on! I can hardly wait until next summer when the effort of getting into a wetsuit will be rewarded with at least 4 hours of surfing like these 2 did!
The sun burned through the fog for about an hour after lunch and by 3pm the girls were water logged and ready to go for a hike with me! We decided to travel along a new trail head that has been recently built...it follows the jagged shoreline where you can watch water crash against boulders, listen to the sounding buoys and the ones with bells on them, and best of all inhale fresh clean air.
Why is it that the air from a damp forest combined with fresh ocean air is so intoxicating??!! You just want to breathe deeply and bottle it up to bring home with you!
As always when we visit the west side of our island I wish I could stay longer...it is pure tranquility to me to listen to the surf ~ you can't help but decompress and feel rejuvenated!
My anniversary is coming up at the start of October (24th this year!) and I think an overnight visit will be in order for both my husband and myself!
AND check out the photo on my page of the friendly bruin that decided our picnic dinner smelled wonderful!!
We had set up by the water's edge to eat a quick picnic dinner before travelling home, a young black bear appeared on the beach in front of us. It was an equal distance from him to our truck as it was from our place at the picnic table to the truck (and we were the ones with the chicken and fruit on the table!!) A fisherman saw what was going on and pulled in and yelled at the bear to get a move on! And that's when the bear went over to the bushes...but still curious popped up on his hind legs as we loaded up our dinner into the truck!

Pretty exciting to have a close encounter with a bear like that...

And I wish we could get some of that liquid sunshine down here in the droughtlands....
