We woke up to pounding rain yesterday morning ~but having lived on this island for 15 years, a little liquid sunshine has never stopped us from getting out and about!
We drove the 3 hours across the island to arrive and be greeted by fog and a light mist!
The 2 girls (my daughter and niece) were heading into the water to surf and my mum and I wandered the massive expanse of beach cheering them on! I can hardly wait until next summer when the effort of getting into a wetsuit will be rewarded with at least 4 hours of surfing like these 2 did!
The sun burned through the fog for about an hour after lunch and by 3pm the girls were water logged and ready to go for a hike with me! We decided to travel along a new trail head that has been recently built...it follows the jagged shoreline where you can watch water crash against boulders, listen to the sounding buoys and the ones with bells on them, and best of all inhale fresh clean air.
Why is it that the air from a damp forest combined with fresh ocean air is so intoxicating??!! You just want to breathe deeply and bottle it up to bring home with you!
As always when we visit the west side of our island I wish I could stay longer...it is pure tranquility to me to listen to the surf ~ you can't help but decompress and feel rejuvenated!
My anniversary is coming up at the start of October (24th this year!) and I think an overnight visit will be in order for both my husband and myself!
AND check out the photo on my page of the friendly bruin that decided our picnic dinner smelled wonderful!!
We had set up by the water's edge to eat a quick picnic dinner before travelling home, a young black bear appeared on the beach in front of us. It was an equal distance from him to our truck as it was from our place at the picnic table to the truck (and we were the ones with the chicken and fruit on the table!!) A fisherman saw what was going on and pulled in and yelled at the bear to get a move on! And that's when the bear went over to the bushes...but still curious popped up on his hind legs as we loaded up our dinner into the truck!
