Clothes shopping

Monday, March 10, 2014

I really dislike clothes shopping. I put it off unless I have to have something. Right now I need new work clothes. I have put it off for a long time and now my work clothes and scrubs are starting to come apart. emoticon So I went shopping today after work. After spending an hour an a half, I finally got one new pair of scrubs. I probably should have gotten more but I just couldn't. I hate to buy a lot of clothes when they don't fit great. They make me look huge (Yes, I'm blaming the clothes not me. LOL!). And I
hope to lose weight and don't want to waste money buying new clothes again. Who else has this dialogue when clothes shopping?
Anyone?
I use to love clothes shopping. I could always find things that looked great on me. I sure hope I get back to that again.

I think you made a good decision because you'll be needing to buy more when you loose more weight emoticon

I am not into clothes shopping for myself either. I love buy for my girls not me.

Springlike weather motivates!

Sunday, March 02, 2014

I love spring weather! It makes me want to get outside and do stuff! Biking, walking or working in the yard. Great exercise that I want to do and don't have to talk myself into it.
The warmer weather also makes me crave fruits and vegetables. I went to the grocery store today for our weekly and while I was there I couldn't get out of the produce aisle. Sweet potatoes, strawberries, grapes, carrots, veggies, cauliflower, and broccoli. I also made a pitcher of fused water with cucumbers, lemon and fresh mint. Yummy!
I was starting to get the winter blues but these warmer days have been turning things around. I am so glad spring is almost here!!

With snow on the ground today, I am looking forward to the 65 degree forecast for Saturday and then on Sunday Daylight Savings Time kicks in and we'll have longer time outside. emoticon

Feeling Good

Sunday, February 16, 2014

It's been a week since I started implementing healthy habits in small steps. I didn't build up to as many healthy things by the end of the week as I would like to have but I still did ok. Today was the first day I truly feel good in a month. The sun is shining and I'm off work today, so it is a great day to really work hard. I have already worked out and feel so much energy afterwords! I have been counting my calories and drinking lots of water so far today too.

Today was also the first day I weighed in a month. Gained 2 lbs. That was pretty motivating to see. Seeing how my bad choices affect me on the scales really made me realize I need to do better.

I really have been wanting to get healthier not just to lose weight but because I am now in my 40's and I am starting to worry about things like diabetes, high blood pressure, heart attacks and strokes. Although I've been overweight for many years, I have always had healthy reports from doctor. I've been blessed not to have diabetes or high blood pressure/cholesterol. But I know if I continue my poor health choices they will catch up with me. Tomorrow is my annual physical. I was hoping to go in there showing my doctor I have been making some changes but my setbacks this month won't give me any bragging rights. I hope I still get good results and get another chance to get healthy. I really don't want to have to be put on any medications.

Whatever you do, just don't give up! And my advice, don't try to do too much at once. For example, just pick one small goal for each week and wait until the next week to add another. I know it is tempting to do it all at once, but it is better to build consistency.

When I started, I found tracking spark streaks to be really motivating. Every day you meet that goal, you check the box, and you watch the number of days grow. Soon you will not want to skip a day and have to start over, and it all becomes habit so quickly that you can keep focusing on new goals without feeling overwhelmed. Tracking calories and drinking lots of water are a great place to start, as well as exercising every day. Way to go!

I am 46 (47 next week!) and have lost more than 30 lbs, and lots of folks on SparkPeople have lost a lot more in their 40s and 50s. You can do it, too! It is soooooo very worth it. For your health, as well as your happiness. It's so awesome to have energy and enthusiasm for life!

Trying to get back on track.

Saturday, February 08, 2014

After taking several weeks off, I am now ready to get back on track. Problem is I am not motivated at all. So I have decided to do at least one healthy thing today. Then tomorrow I will do 2 healthy things, and keep adding until the week ends. These things may seem small to some of you but right now I am not doing anything healthy, so anything would be an improvement. My choices are drinking a glass of water (I haven't had one full glass of water in a while), eating a serving of vegetables, or exercising 10 minutes a day.

They don't seem to small at all! I am in the same boat and am working on making small goals. My problem is always thinking I need to co everything right away. I think you're doing great!

You can do it!!! Great small goals. I think you are onto the best way to get started again. I'm only one week ahead of you getting back in the groove.

You got this!!!
