Recently I decided that I am not really a yoga person. It might have something to do with the fact that I am a normally shallow breather and all of those deep breaths feel weird and unnatural to me. Also I have a bad habit of comparing my abilities to those of others when I take exercise or yoga classes, I know bad habit!

Anyway, today I am working a long day and rather than leaving midday to go to the gym I decided to participate in a "chair yoga" class that is being offered here where I work for the next few Thursday's. I have to admit that it was better than I thought it might be and I left after those 50 minutes feeling calmer and more focused, a real bonus to my concentration for work projects this afternoon. Glad I decided not to limit myself because of a predetermined belief and to just go in there and do it anyway! Guess what Iíll probably be doing next Thursday afternoon. LOL

I have been on some kind of weight loss, fitness or self improvement quest all of my adult life. My motivation has waxed and waned over the years. I have tried more diets and fitness plans than I can count. I have had successes and I have backslid sometimes. Recently I noticed that things have gotten very stale for me, something that can put me on the fast track to relapse. Earlier this month I decided I really needed to change things up again and get a 1000 watt recharge from somewhere. I honestly can't remember how I stumbled across the Spark People Site but I am very glad that I did!

Being fairly new to this Spark People community (just into my second week) I am still in the honeymoon phase, excited by all of the prospects and possibilities for change and for improving my life.

Something that I think that I've known all along but had drifted away from for a while is that being my best self takes a lot of effort! It's back in my consciousness in full force again! This site has been a wonderful reminder for me of the many, many, many, things that I can do to improve the quality of my health and physical, emotional and mental well being.

I am cognizant of the need to track my food and fitness. To monitor sleep and hydration, to make time for fun and relaxation to take care with my posture and to keep my outlook positive.

Thanks Spark Community for all that you have already done to reignite me as I continue on my way.


Busy day ahead

I have a long and busy day ahead. Some pretty challenging projects at work this week. I can't believe that it's me saying this, but I am really looking forward to getting to the gym after work today. Working out is a great stress reliever!

This is the start of my second week here at Spark people and here's what I think so far .....

it's fun
tracking spark points is motivating
people are supportive friendly and nice
it's easier to use the trackers than I thought it might be
the focus on exercise and fitness is what brought me here
I can put as much or as little effort into this as I like
the more effort I put in the more I'll get out of it
I like spinning for daily points and extra points
I am looking forward to getting to know more people here
I lost 4 pounds last week, which was a lovely bonus
the articles are informative
the quizzes are fun
the polls are interesting
Spark radio is cool
I am making progress
Itís cool to share the journeys of so many others like me
I joined a few groups already
I like challenges
I think Iíll be sticking around for a while
