Wow! What a day! Yesterday I get a call from the Rental Management company and they tell me they have a tenant for my rental. Only problem is, they don't like the wallpaper on one wall of the kitchen, and carried over on one wall in the Office. Hmmmmm! It was expensive, and took "hours" to put up, however the color is a mixture of deep red shades -- while I like it, not everyone shares my taste, and some would rather have the boring TAN shades that go with anything and everything. Of course I'll probably never live there again myself, and I can't pass up a tenant -- after all, an empty rental costs you money!
So I agree to go over and do what I can. Well, I have never tried to remove the "illusions" wallpaper they were referring to -- I know it's a pain to put up, but let me tell you -- it's a bigger pain to REMOVE! I was over there for 7 hours and have not quite finished one wall. So back again tomorrow to finish it up and tackle the other wall. They want to move in Monday, so I don't have time to mess around. They even wanted the border removed from the bathroom. It is "tan" so I suppose they love the color -- but......I have a border about half way up of lt.pink and very light pink roses. I thought it looked beautiful. Oh well, they are the ones paying the rent -- and the customer is always right.
I'm the lucky one though as I called DH about 6:15 and asked how he and Luci (the new cat) was doing. He said they were preparing dinner and as soon as they knew what time it would be all ready for me. So I told them I'd leave at 6:45 and would arrive home about 7:15 -- I was sooooo glad that dinner was all ready! Steak, baked potato, and sliced tomatoes -- and due to a very tired back, I poured myself a glass of wine too! Ahh!

Soon we will start another month. Where did this one go? But I have those same thoughts at the end of each month, the older you get the faster time moves. In retrospect it makes you wonder how much exercise did you do, what did you eat, have you made the right choices, or did you turn a blind eye and gulp down food you knew was unhealthy. The scale usually determines how your month went. It's like Santa Claus knowing if you were a "good" girl or a "bad" girl.
Let's see, I started off the month fairly well, although Nov. 1st is DH's birthday. That always means eating out or eating something we don't normally allow ourselves. Then just three days after clearing that obstacle, we left for a 2 week vacation in parts of Mexico. Everyone knows how delicious and fattening those tortilla's are. But at the same time eating the American burger isn't exactly at the top of my healthy food list either. On the plus side, we were walking each and every day. On the down side we also seemed to spend hours on a bus every day.
The results of the vacation, regardless of walking, gave me a 2.6 pound gain. Some of it came off rather quickly, but still didn't put me as low as Nov. 1st. And wham -- Thanksgiving was upon us. Luckily my daughter is on a big health kick since she started dating a doctor (whew) so Thanksgiving didn't cause a weight gain -- in fact, when I weighed in after getting back to our own home I was down about a half pound.
And the most exciting thing that's happened in November (for us) was adopting a female cat. She is taking up a lot of my attention, we're trying to give her all the love and attention she deserves, all the while making sure that Amber (my dog) doesn't feel left out. In fact, talking about Amber reminds me -- it's time to go for a nice long walk with her.
Have a good end of the month -- and rush right into December. We've nothing to be afraid of except ourselves!

So far I haven't gotten DH to take pictures of Luci, our new "adult" female cat. I know, we said we wanted a "kitten" -- we said....., but what difference does it make what "we said," because the bottom line is: "this is what we got."
I found all of these different cats on the Internet to show you what LUCI looks like. None of them is actually her. Here's her story:
Husband says: "do you want to go for a ride?"
Me: "Where are you going?"
DH: "To buy stuff for a kitty - some of the stuff she'll need."
Me: "OK, I'll go along."
We arrive at Petco. We go straight to the cats up for adoption. One is white - no! One is black, cute, but he's a male. One is gray, but long hair, again no. But up in the right hand corner is an adult female, with just the coloring DH wants. She comes over to us and rubs against us. She is 3 years old -- DH says that OK with him (what?) and I agreed she is nice. I get to hold her. She is a bit wary of coming out of the cage, but softens up a bit as I talk to her. Perhaps she has not had a very trusting life. Bottom line -- she goes home with us, and although I read the warning of keeping her away from other pets for 10 days (!! how could I do that?) she meets Amber within the first 10 minutes. She gets on the first story above where she will sleep, and eventually I scoot her into the office, where we set up all her "stuff." She didn't mind the ride, and I thought it would be good to confine her to one room for awhile, she can explore during the day.
So far she is content to wrap herself around our legs, stare at Amber and let her know that SHE is the Boss. Amber accepts that. lol
More pictures will follow of the "real" Luci. She is sweet and will turn into a loving cat. If Amber gets too close, she puts her paw on top of Amber's head.

Who doesn't enjoy the glamour and excitement associated with "Holidays." Doesn't matter if your favorite if the picnics/BBQ for the 4th of July, Trick or Treating with the kids on Spook Night (Halloween), the gathering of friends/family for Thanksgiving or the very real hustle and bustle of Christmas.
So regardless of what season your favorite "holiday" falls in, you've got to admit you have a love/hate relationship with it.
Why do I say a love/hate relationship? Let's look at the facts:
1. You tend to over-eat, especially on foods ranging in the rich category, like fat/sugar!
2. You tend to skip the usual exercise routine (cuz you are "too full.")
3. On the love side -- if it's birthday or Christmas you receive gifts, who doesn't love that?
4. Also on the love side -- it's a chance to visit with friends/family.
5. Of course the above could also fall on the hate side -- you have to invite Aunt Jenny even though she bores everyone to tears with her stories of "when she was young." And don't forget the younger brother who always embarrasses everyone by drinking too much.
You see how the scenario goes. But the other day I was reading a blog by my friend, Lis and it really made sense to me. When you're invited to a party, or pot luck, or just a big dinner, these tactics can apply. First size up all the goodies you see on the table. If there is an endless variety just choose 5 or 6 things you "must" try -- and take a very, very small portion of each. If you do really good with this, you can reward yourself by having a bite or two of dessert. If you don't follow your own choices, you'd better skip the dessert. (I know from experience)
But when all is said and done, even the most health-conscious usually find that we have gained a pound or two, or perhaps only maintained. It's certainly not the end of the world, and think of how bad it could have been if you'd gone wild! A 10 or 15 pound gain could happen easily. So know in your heart you'll do the best you possibly can. Perhaps the old, proven advice of having a bowl of low-cal soup or something "before" the party would help you out. If you are half-full before you start, your brain my signal you that "I'm full." Don't ignore that.
I know we will hear of the groans come January -- and those few lucky ones who will brag that they actually LOST a pound through it all. After all, what's to keep you from going out for a nice refreshing WALK after breakfast on Christmas. Or for sure do that instead of slumping down on the sofa and soaking up TV, with an eggnog in your hand (very high-cal).
Which will you be? or
