I was invited to a Progressive Dinner -- I was excited, but worried about what would be served. Regardless, it was a wonderful chance to meet lots of new friends, so I dressed up and waited for my friend to pick me up!
The house was decked out in beautiful decorations and as we crowded into the rooms we were bug-eyed with the beautiful displays of adornments, from trees to Nativity Sets. And the food beckoned to us from two separate tables. Meatballs, salsa, chips, apple slices w/caramel sauce, tortilla rolls, rounds of bread topped with a mixture of tuna, pineapple chunks, baked potatoes heaped with yummy toppings! My mind was spinning, but I remembered the advice of a friend to decide on 3 or 4 different things to taste, take a very small helping of each - forget the rest!
I did just that, and enjoyed a short little show of singing by some talented women.
Next was the main course , cranberry salsa and rolls. The main dish was actually a pork roast rolled up with stuffing inside. Lean and delicious!! There must have been in excess of 40 women, and yet the woman at this home found room for about 8 tables, and although it was served buffet style, the dinnerware was Lenox, and each place setting had a gold charger plate. Very impressive. I was lucky enough to set in the room with the Christmas tree and the piano -- again we were treated to a nicely done solo with piano accompaniment. Next....... and the part I dreaded was the home serving dessert. Sweets are my downfall, so how would I do?
Lighted luminaries led our way down the sidewalk to a home with about a 15 foot Santa all blown up and glowing in the front yard. Desserts were enough to make your head spin. There was cheesecake piled high with blackberries, chocolate cake w/chocolate frosting, a mixture of chex cereals and nuts held together with drizzled caramel, tiny little tartlets beautifully formed with nuts and sprinkles on the top, another cheesecake type of dessert with a strawberry mix on the top, last but not least pumpkin pie with 'heavy' whipped cream. While I still had some degree of self-control I took a slim piece of pumpkin pie, skipped the cream and added a tartlet.
Even though I kept my portions slimmed down and skipped most of the really rich, fattening offers, my weight still went up almost a pound. But it was a delightful evening -- and I would gladly do it again! Merry Christmas to all!

Wow! What a day! Yesterday I get a call from the Rental Management company and they tell me they have a tenant for my rental. Only problem is, they don't like the wallpaper on one wall of the kitchen, and carried over on one wall in the Office. Hmmmmm! It was expensive, and took "hours" to put up, however the color is a mixture of deep red shades -- while I like it, not everyone shares my taste, and some would rather have the boring TAN shades that go with anything and everything. Of course I'll probably never live there again myself, and I can't pass up a tenant -- after all, an empty rental costs you money!
So I agree to go over and do what I can. Well, I have never tried to remove the "illusions" wallpaper they were referring to -- I know it's a pain to put up, but let me tell you -- it's a bigger pain to REMOVE! I was over there for 7 hours and have not quite finished one wall. So back again tomorrow to finish it up and tackle the other wall. They want to move in Monday, so I don't have time to mess around. They even wanted the border removed from the bathroom. It is "tan" so I suppose they love the color -- but......I have a border about half way up of lt.pink and very light pink roses. I thought it looked beautiful. Oh well, they are the ones paying the rent -- and the customer is always right.
I'm the lucky one though as I called DH about 6:15 and asked how he and Luci (the new cat) was doing. He said they were preparing dinner and as soon as they knew what time it would be all ready for me. So I told them I'd leave at 6:45 and would arrive home about 7:15 -- I was sooooo glad that dinner was all ready! Steak, baked potato, and sliced tomatoes -- and due to a very tired back, I poured myself a glass of wine too! Ahh!
