A Picture is Worth 1000 Words!

Saturday, December 15, 2012

It's raining out, so not good weather for a walk. Decided to browse through my photo's and pick out some of my favorites to share with you:

A child's face always makes me smile -- is there anything more innocent and appealing?

Begonia's -- what a lovely sight in the midst of winter!

My cleaning isn't getting done because I'm "busy" blogging!

I do have a pot of stew simmering on the stove though (for Amber) -- yes, she's spoiled!

This looks like the ideal Christmas setting -- from years gone by.

There are always surprises when you have both a cat and a dog!

LOST MY GRIP ON THE WAGON!

Wednesday, December 12, 2012

emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon
I was invited to a Progressive Dinner -- I was excited, but worried about what would be served. Regardless, it was a wonderful chance to meet lots of new friends, so I dressed up and waited for my friend to pick me up!
emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon
The house was decked out in beautiful decorations and as we crowded into the rooms we were bug-eyed with the beautiful displays of adornments, from trees to Nativity Sets. And the food beckoned to us from two separate tables. Meatballs, salsa, chips, apple slices w/caramel sauce, tortilla rolls, rounds of bread topped with a mixture of tuna, pineapple chunks, baked potatoes heaped with yummy toppings! My mind was spinning, but I remembered the advice of a friend to decide on 3 or 4 different things to taste, take a very small helping of each - forget the rest!
I did just that, and enjoyed a short little show of singing by some talented women.

Next was the main course emoticon emoticon , cranberry salsa and rolls. The main dish was actually a pork roast rolled up with stuffing inside. Lean and delicious!! There must have been in excess of 40 women, and yet the woman at this home found room for about 8 tables, and although it was served buffet style, the dinnerware was Lenox, and each place setting had a gold charger plate. Very impressive. I was lucky enough to set in the room with the Christmas tree and the piano -- again we were treated to a nicely done solo with piano accompaniment. Next....... and the part I dreaded was the home serving dessert. Sweets are my downfall, so how would I do?

Lighted luminaries led our way down the sidewalk to a home with about a 15 foot Santa all blown up and glowing in the front yard. Desserts were enough to make your head spin. There was cheesecake piled high with blackberries, chocolate cake w/chocolate frosting, a mixture of chex cereals and nuts held together with drizzled caramel, tiny little tartlets beautifully formed with nuts and sprinkles on the top, another cheesecake type of dessert with a strawberry mix on the top, last but not least pumpkin pie with 'heavy' whipped cream. While I still had some degree of self-control I took a slim piece of pumpkin pie, skipped the cream and added a tartlet.

Even though I kept my portions slimmed down and skipped most of the really rich, fattening offers, my weight still went up almost a pound. But it was a delightful evening -- and I would gladly do it again! Merry Christmas to all!

Sounds like a wonder evening! You did well eating sticking to your plan for the most. That pound will be gone soon, as it's probably mostly sodium bloat.

YIKES! THE YEAR IS ALMOST OVER!

Saturday, December 08, 2012

The new year will be here before we know it! Kind of scary, isn't it? Especially if you happen to be the type to keep a journal -- you leaf through the pages, making note of the big plans you had at the beginning of 2012.
emoticon Walk every day! Ummm, well -- I did pretty good.
emoticon Eat right? I know what I "should" be eating, and I seldom binge.
emoticon emoticon Fruits and veggies! Do you get 5 per day?
emoticon The scale -- Are you afraid to look at it, or is it now your friend?
emoticon and emoticon to all my friends who take the time to read my blogs!
emoticon I'm not there yet -- but I'm better than I was the end of 2011. That's progress! emoticon Almost forgot an important item -- drink 8 glasses per day!

The One and Only Luci!

Monday, December 03, 2012

I'm LUCI -- I like to sit here and look out the window!

I'm beautiful, and I know it! I now roam freely throughout the house.

This is Amber, the dog who lives in "my" home -- I tolerate her.

I'll let you know how I'm doing as I settle into my new "furrever" home!

Postscript from Eve: I should have put this in originally, but didn't think of it. For the first couple of days Luci stayed in the Office and we closed the door at night. She and Amber just stared at one another. Day 3 she ventured into a couple of other rooms, and now (we got her on Nov. 26) she has free run of the house, even at night. I haven't discovered where she sleeps, but when I get up in the morning she comes from the Family Room or the Living Room. She does not actually "play" with Amber yet, but they have become friends. Amber has discovered what a "cat" is and is no longer so curious. I know one of these days they will be playing together.

Luci is a beautiful cat and she looks a lot like my Gracie! I adopted my cat over five years ago now and Gracie is very sweet and very vocal. I got her to replace a dog I had to put down but after a year I got a poodle mix and named her Hazel. Needless to say the cat moved upstairs cause she was not fond of the dog but after six months they are now the
best of friends and play so cute together. Does Luci get along with Amber? I think Luci will adjust to her furever home very quickly .... Enjoy!

It's only 8:00 p.m. and I'm Dead Tired!

Saturday, December 01, 2012

Wow! What a day! Yesterday I get a call from the Rental Management company and they tell me they have a tenant for my rental. Only problem is, they don't like the wallpaper on one wall of the kitchen, and carried over on one wall in the Office. Hmmmmm! It was expensive, and took "hours" to put up, however the color is a mixture of deep red shades -- while I like it, not everyone shares my taste, and some would rather have the boring TAN shades that go with anything and everything. Of course I'll probably never live there again myself, and I can't pass up a tenant -- after all, an empty rental costs you money!

So I agree to go over and do what I can. Well, I have never tried to remove the "illusions" wallpaper they were referring to -- I know it's a pain to put up, but let me tell you -- it's a bigger pain to REMOVE! I was over there for 7 hours and have not quite finished one wall. So back again tomorrow to finish it up and tackle the other wall. They want to move in Monday, so I don't have time to mess around. They even wanted the border removed from the bathroom. It is "tan" so I suppose they love the color -- but......I have a border about half way up of lt.pink and very light pink roses. I thought it looked beautiful. Oh well, they are the ones paying the rent -- and the customer is always right.

I'm the lucky one though as I called DH about 6:15 and asked how he and Luci (the new cat) was doing. He said they were preparing dinner and as soon as they knew what time it would be all ready for me. So I told them I'd leave at 6:45 and would arrive home about 7:15 -- I was sooooo glad that dinner was all ready! Steak, baked potato, and sliced tomatoes -- and due to a very tired back, I poured myself a glass of wine too! Ahh!
