I wouldn't exactly say it's a "ah-ha" moment, but after going through the week and consistently losing .2 or .4 each day I know it's really a matter of making the right choices and getting some exercise. It doesn't have to be 2 hours of drop dead exercise, merely a 20 or 30 minute walk will do the trick. Of course if my routine HAD included some of the drop dead-wear-yourself-out type of exercise, perhaps my weight loss would have been a bit more dramatic! But I'm happy with the .2's and the .4's. At least they have been very consistent, and slow is better than fast for me because it tends to stay off then.
I'd like to ignore the fact that I didn't sneak in any chocolate last week, but honesty is the best policy, so I have to admit to myself that perhaps some of my "snacks" were what very well could have been the undoing of my healthy lifestyle. Last week there was NO chocolate. The only chocolate to pass my lips is something I buy called Chocolate Sauce made by Walden Farms and it contains no calories, no carbs, no fat. I don't know how they can make it so good and still not contain any of those things, but I believe the label. I put it in the smoothie that I invariably have for breakfast (along with banana and peanut butter, and a coffee/milk combo for the liquid. Try it, you'll like it. A complete breakfast for 250 calories!
Eating in a restaurant is always a difficult thing for me. Difficult because invariably my weight goes UP! I try to order good, but the scale thumbs it's nose at me. Like today, we went for Asian and I ordered the Chicken & Broccoli -- it sounds healthy -- I did eat the egg roll and I know that was a no-no, but I saved calories from breakfast to allow for it. So as I step on the scale tomorrow morning we'll see how "right' my choices were.
It really gave me a sense of accomplishment to see the little graph that I made for my weight for the entire month showing a steady decrease all week. It's little visual things like that a person needs to stay on the straight and narrow. I know my real test will come later this week when we leave for a 2-week vacation. Almost all restaurant eating (except snacks), so if you read my blog from yesterday, I'm taking my scale with me. It's one of my little tricks of the trade that keep me on the straight and narrow.
Tune in tomorrow to see if I'm still on a roll -- or if the "Oriental Temptations" threw me right off the wagon!

At least that's what my husband says, and he could be right -- I'm taking my bathroom scale with me on vacation.
OK, I'm hooked on weighing myself each morning as soon as I get up. When you're on vacation you can't do that. Even if they have a gym with a scale it's not the same, cause then you have clothes on. So, yes, I'm packing it along with me. We're driving so there is plenty of room, and it will give me that little edge that keeps me going.
Obsessive behavior? Could be -- we all have hang-ups about something, don't we?

I woke up early this morning and could tell by the amount of light hitting the window that the sun had not completely risen as yet. 6:06 a.m. the clock read.
I felt completely rested so I climbed out of bed and walked out into the living room. This is what greeted me:
Although she had toys to play with, I knew a real treat would be going for an early morning walk. So I walked over to check the temperature: 66F great!!
The flowers all looked good, and although this photo was taken a couple of months ago the plants have filled in and look more lush today!
I like vary our route a little so it doesn't get boring, and neighbors have warned me a couple of dogs in the neighborhood have been bitten by a rattlesnake, so I try to watch where Amber is sniffing. It's lovely out this early in the morning, not too many people are moving around as yet and the earth has a tranquil feeling of goodwill laying over it like a soft blanket. It makes me thankful to have a quiet summer home that is away from the busy traffic of the world.
Walking time is a time for meditation, if something is bothering you, now is a good time to sort it out in your mind -- gardening does the same thing for me. Rather than pay a psychologist buckoo bucks for a few sessions, I garden with my time, save my money and end up with veggies or flowers for my efforts. It is a win-win situation and I recommend it to everyone. It's kind of like: "Clean yard equals a clean mind."
I notice Amber is not walking as briskly as when we started our walk, so I know she is starting to tire out. When you consider how short those little legs are, it is like she has to take about 10 steps every time I take one step, plus she has 4 legs to keep going -- I have only 2. I decide we have gone almost far enough, and the sun is beginning to peek over the hills and I much prefer walking in the shade rather than in the sunshine. So we start our journey home!
Amber is aware of each home that has a dog and to signal me that a "friend" lives there, she makes her little noise, kind of like "mmmm - mmmmm" as we go past each "doggy" home. I tell her that her little friend isn't up yet, but of course she hasn't figured out all those words yet.
So have a good day, my friends, and if your mind is troubled -- go garden!

If life was perfect:
I wouldn't have to worry about eating that cookie for fear it will make me gain weight!
I wouldn't have to sweat and feel uncomfortable as I take my walks, because the temperature would be a perfect 70 degrees!
I wouldn't have to change my clothes because the pair of pants I took out of the closet are just a bit too tight to be comfortable!
I could eat all my favorite foods and never have to worry about stepping on the scale because I would stay at my ideal weight!
My back would not be sore and tired at night -- my knees would be in good shape, and I would not have to take medication for high blood pressure or cholesterol!
In fact, if this was a perfect life I would not be writing this blog -- because life would be ........ well, just PERFECT!
