I'm Obsessed!

Monday, September 26, 2011

emoticon At least that's what my husband says, and he could be right -- I'm taking my bathroom scale with me on vacation.

OK, I'm hooked on weighing myself each morning as soon as I get up. When you're on vacation you can't do that. Even if they have a gym with a scale it's not the same, cause then you have clothes on. So, yes, I'm packing it along with me. We're driving so there is plenty of room, and it will give me that little edge that keeps me going.

Obsessive behavior? Could be -- we all have hang-ups about something, don't we?

I weigh morning and night and have been called obsessive too but for me it is almost a comfort just to know where i am at,,I don't freak at the natural couple pounds up or down cause I know what the weekly average is,,,you have to do what you have to do to stay grounded and on track...have a great time

Sounds like a fair idea. Beware, the jiggling and joseling in the car might knock it off kilter, though! Just a thought! But it's a great way to keep yourself from going overboard! Nip it in the bud, as it were! Have a great time! emoticon emoticon

Visiting with friends

Saturday, September 03, 2011

emoticon There is no better way to spend a day of rest than with good friends. Our friends had driven the long distance (over 100 miles round trip) to visit with us a couple of weeks ago; so this morning the weather was lovely, and we didn't really have anything planned that needed to get done, so it looked like a good time to return the favor.

I called and they said they had no plans for the day. So I told them to expect us sometime between noon and 12:30 which gave both of us time to do a few little things that we might have wanted to do. I had only been there once before, but I vaguely remembered their unit number in the trailer court where they spend their summers. But although I thought it was unit #20 we sailed right past as we were looking for their big full-sized pickup -- instead there was a brand-new Kia sitting in their driveway.

And as we stepped inside the delicious smell of freshly baked apple pie greeted our nostrils -- plus excited yips and jumps from the new Yorkie they had just acquired. Their grandson had named her "Bella." As we were talking Jerrie (the wife) mentioned that Sassy would suit her better, but they would call her Bella as their grandson had named her. May suggestion: call her Sassy Bella -- then if they got caught calling her Sassy instead of Bella they would have a reason. I tried calling out to her. "Come Sassy." She jumped right into my lap -- so I don't think they'll have any problems with the name change if they want to do it.

Later we went out for a late lunch, came home to the apple pie with vanilla ice cream -- delicious combination.

Wonderful Day! Wonderful Friends!

I Woke Up This Morning .. .... ... ...

Thursday, September 01, 2011

I woke up early this morning and could tell by the amount of light hitting the window that the sun had not completely risen as yet. 6:06 a.m. the clock read.

I felt completely rested so I climbed out of bed and walked out into the living room. This is what greeted me:
Although she had toys to play with, I knew a real treat would be going for an early morning walk. So I walked over to check the temperature: 66F great!!

The flowers all looked good, and although this photo was taken a couple of months ago the plants have filled in and look more lush today!

I like vary our route a little so it doesn't get boring, and neighbors have warned me a couple of dogs in the neighborhood have been bitten by a rattlesnake, so I try to watch where Amber is sniffing. It's lovely out this early in the morning, not too many people are moving around as yet and the earth has a tranquil feeling of goodwill laying over it like a soft blanket. It makes me thankful to have a quiet summer home that is away from the busy traffic of the world.

Walking time is a time for meditation, if something is bothering you, now is a good time to sort it out in your mind -- gardening does the same thing for me. Rather than pay a psychologist buckoo bucks for a few sessions, I garden with my time, save my money and end up with veggies or flowers for my efforts. It is a win-win situation and I recommend it to everyone. It's kind of like: "Clean yard equals a clean mind."

I notice Amber is not walking as briskly as when we started our walk, so I know she is starting to tire out. When you consider how short those little legs are, it is like she has to take about 10 steps every time I take one step, plus she has 4 legs to keep going -- I have only 2. I decide we have gone almost far enough, and the sun is beginning to peek over the hills and I much prefer walking in the shade rather than in the sunshine. So we start our journey home!

Amber is aware of each home that has a dog and to signal me that a "friend" lives there, she makes her little noise, kind of like "mmmm - mmmmm" as we go past each "doggy" home. I tell her that her little friend isn't up yet, but of course she hasn't figured out all those words yet.

So have a good day, my friends, and if your mind is troubled -- go garden!

One of my other SP friends described her run as a "zen run". I like that. You seem to have zen gardening and zen walking -- a lovely way to spend your time!

I know what you mean about short legs Gerti's are very short too so that is why we don't walk to long but she starts out almost running but by the time we are about done she is behind me instead out front but she gets here walks and thats all she cares about. I wish she would play with toys - how do you get them to do that?? And gardening I never thought of it that way guess that is true for I love to do all my thinking during my walks and gardening - I also so that in my hot tub in the winter
Thanks for the blog you always make me think new thoughts

I enjoyed your blog. It reminds me of when Duffy and I take a morning walk. He knows where every dog in the neighborhood lives. I also know all the doggie names but not necessarily the owners names. They call me Duffy's mom and I do the same with their names. Those little Scotty legs are short in the front and higher in the rear, but they can sure move when motivated. How old is Amber now? Duffy is nine. Thanks for taking me on your walk this morning.

That dog is tooooooooooo cute with her toys!!!! I'm glad you two had a nice walk and may I say how refreshing it is to find someone who is mindful of their dog's short legs!!!! It makes me mad when I see some clueless idiot on their cell phone, walking so fast that their dog can hardly keep up with its short legs and they're practically dragging it down the street. YOU are a good doggie mama.

If Life Was Perfect!

Saturday, August 27, 2011

If life was perfect:

I wouldn't have to worry about eating that cookie for fear it will make me gain weight!

I wouldn't have to sweat and feel uncomfortable as I take my walks, because the temperature would be a perfect 70 degrees!

I wouldn't have to change my clothes because the pair of pants I took out of the closet are just a bit too tight to be comfortable!

I could eat all my favorite foods and never have to worry about stepping on the scale because I would stay at my ideal weight!

My back would not be sore and tired at night -- my knees would be in good shape, and I would not have to take medication for high blood pressure or cholesterol!

In fact, if this was a perfect life I would not be writing this blog -- because life would be ........ well, just PERFECT!

Another Hot August Day

Wednesday, August 24, 2011

emoticon emoticon It's hot out. . . . no way to get around it, yesterday was the hottest day so far this summer, and today looks like a copy of it. Knowing how hot it was yesterday, and realizing that it was just too hot to go out for a walk, even if I waited until almost dark -- I knew if I wanted to get any exercise by "walking" I'd have to bite the bullet and get up early!

6:05 a.m. emoticon Temperature a lovely 71F - walked the 1.1-mile loop at a nice brisk pace -- it still took about 25 minutes though, due to all the potty stops! But it was worth getting up early.

I really ate healthy yesterday and even though I missed a day of walking, my body still lost 0.2 pounds, probably because I tried to move around fairly often during the day inside the house. Moving from activity to activity, cleaning, and watching what I ate all paid off. I LOST INSTEAD OF GAINED! And although we reached a high of 96 here yesterday, it's still better than the 115 they were suffering in Glendale! Whew! Is it fall yet?
