Am I Where I Am Supposed To Be?

I look at the number on the scale and see that I've been exactly the same weight ever since the 1st of the month, and now it's the 5th. So..... I'm good at maintaining, big deal on that one! What I want is to see the scale going down, to become slim and trim and take off at least one more clothes size!

OR. . . . . is this the weight my body thinks is right for me? Have I carried these few extra pounds around so long that now my body thinks just because I've lost about 20 pounds that I'm good to go? Right! I'm not obese. I'm quite healthy! I have a fair amount of energy! But I'd still like to get a few more pounds off.

Obviously I don't want it bad enough to up my efforts. I'm not so dense that I can't realize there are things I could do. I complain that it's too hot out and the sun is too bright. We have a DVD -- I could bring an exercise tape up here and use it in the middle of the afternoon, it's only 75F in the house! I could get up at 5:30 in the morning when it's only 70F and get in an extra 1 to 1-1/2 miles. But do I do any of those things -- NO! At least not on a regular basis.

If I'm going to talk the talk, I'd better walk the walk! And that goes for the rest of you slackers out there too. I "know" why I'm not down to a size 8 yet. Do you? Or better yet -- will you admit it to yourself?

    You want company? (as I sheepishly raise my hand) You got it! I was just a few pounds away from where I wanted to be, but was super at maintaining...stopped paying attention and...BAM!!! Put some of the weight back on! I somehow managed to pull myself out from under that wagon I fell off and started fresh....It hasn't been as easy as it was before, but, slowly, I'm making progress...thank goodness for Sparkpeople! emoticon emoticon

    Sometimes your body hangs on to weight that's been there for a while - those pounds are the hardest to shed. Stick with the program and eventually your body will let go :)
In the meantime get out your measuring tap - you may go down in places even if the scales don't show it.

    If I were on the Biggest Loser I would have been voted off the island years ago! Everybody hit the plateau from time-to-time. It is frustrating. I will let you know when I push through mine. I tell myself my clothes are fitting loser but, darn it, I want that scale to move downward.

Keep at it and everything will be fine.

Charting my Progress

emoticon emoticon emoticon Today the idea came to my mind to combine several things I like to do: namely; make lists/charts, weigh myself daily and make progress to reach my goals!

I took a piece of graph paper and made annotations of various weights along the left side of the paper, giving myself a 5-pound spread. On the top I indicated the date, from 1 to 14, for the first two weeks of the month. I know I have a habit of yo-yoing, so this way I will be able to see exactly how it's going, visually. I'm also tracking my food and keeping track of the miles I walk.

By the time I have charted the entire month I should know where my mistakes are -- as well as what I'm doing right. Then I can begin to slowly rule out the mistakes. Mistakes are OK if you learn from them, right? This way I'll have it all down in black and white.

My daughter tells me I "have waaaaay too much time on my hands" when I come up with schemes like this.

    Okay, that is why I use the journal here on Spark, then they do the charting for me and I have learned many things over the months that I have been working on dropping weight ! I'm sure you will see trends! Let us all know what you come up with . I learned that I just can't eat out with out screwing up because I'm not fixing the meal. I don't go wild, but I would add on a roll which I would never do at home.

    I like charts too I did that when I first started and tried to go back to it but it didn't stick maybe I need to get it out again and take away and add new things then maybe I will stick to it - if you can take a picture of it so we can see what you did

How Did YOUR Month Go?

Well, Spark People, for all the gardening I did in July, all the miles that I walked, and all the healthy food that I logged . . . . . my starting weight was 145.8 and my ending weight was 145.2, so I guess if I had been on the "Biggest Loser" I would have been eliminated right away.

Fortunately for me, I wasn't on a TV show, nothing drastic will happen to me due to losing a measly 0.6 pounds, and even if I had gained weight, the world wouldn't come to an end. And during the month I was up and down, doing my usual yo-yo. My highest weight during the month of July was 147.4 and my lowest was 143.8 -- usually the peaks were when we had occasion to eat out and my sodium intake would skyrocket. And the low times were when I was tracking and cooking all my own food. Not fair really, I should be able to enjoy a meal out without always gaining a pound, but it doesn't seem that way. Perhaps my body is overly sensitive to salt and fat -- at least it appears that way. I do know that my body reacts very strongly to 'fast food.' I ate a Whopper Jr. the other day (extra veggies - no mayo). It tasted OK as I was eating it, but 15 minutes later my stomach had thrown it back out the way it went in -- the hard way! No Whopper Jr's since then. lol

So do I live my life with never eating in restaurants? Or what do you suggest? Maybe I have to console myself that I will always yo-yo a bit?

By the way, the above photo was taken on July 14th -- the corn is now 12 feet high.

    Your garden is beautiful and so are you even if you didn't lose that much just keep trying is what someone told me for that means your still on the right track

    You do better than I do, and I have received alot of help from you! I went out to eat at McDonalds and still lost. I have to cut back on my intake, during the week for a day, until I go out. I think you'll find what works as you experiment! By the way, yes a beautiful garden!

    You garden is beautiful!!! All your hard work shows! And about the weight you have trouble drinking your water? I am sure that's a BIG part of My problem! I really just have big trouble getting the water down. I'm going to try harder, though, b/c I know it will help. You seem to be staying in a good range, so here's my thought (for what it's worth).....if you know you are going out to eat, try drinking a couple extra glasses of water before you go and of course, have water with your meal. Maybe it will help begin the flushing of the salt and fat and then when you drink more water later.......well. Maybe it will help? Couldn't hurt! emoticon

Oh Boy! or.... YIKES! Company Coming!

Friends called me yesterday and said they'd like to come and visit today -- would it be OK? I told them it would be wonderful -- we'd all go out to lunch and then have a nice long visit. They were scheduled to arrive anywhere between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.

So of course the morning was a frenzy of putting things away, straightening up, vacuuming, and just making the house look spiffy! When you have a "home away from home" it's never quite in company shape, and it doesn't happen too often either because we are 75 miles from our friends in Phoenix and even from the people who were coming now it is 52 miles.

It reminded me of my past years in Sedona. I had a home that was about 5000 sq.ft. and to motivate me, I would invite someone over for dinner. Then I'd clean the whole house, cook a magnificent dinner with dessert (before SP) and be exhausted that night. Actually my DH pitched in to help me, so it wasn't so bad. I made the bed, complete with the bedspread, and did the vacuuming, he put things away and cleaned the bathrooms. What a team!

So tonight I have a clean house and I'm happy because we all had a nice long visit. So now it is our turn to drive over to the Prescott area to see them!

    You didn't hear that Dr.Oz is telling everyone not to make their beds any longer. They need to remain opened without the blankets or top sheet over them to air so that the dust mites can't grow in the moisture from your body heat all night. You must keep this in mind now because everyone will be looking to see if you are keeping the dust mite population growing or not. Teehee.
