Hiking - What a Workout!!

Saturday, January 15, 2011

emoticon emoticon emoticon Partly just to stay (or get) in shape, and partly as we are getting prepared for our trip to Peru, my new hubby told me about a hike we could go on today. He tells me, "it's a paved walkway, only about 1/2 a mile or so, and you'll see some Indian Ruins."

I told him - "fine, let's do it, sounds like fun!" So we drive, and drive ..... it's not an hour or 1-1/2 hours away, but closer to 2 hours! And the paved walkway? haha that lasted for about 50 feet -- and 1/2 mile? more like 3 miles, lots of rocks formed into steps, so climbing up and down. Whew! We did stop a few times for a few minutes each time as the tour guide explained about the surroundings!

So even though I'm too tired to even wiggle, it was a wonderful day, the temps were just right for a hike like that, I didn't have to worry about going to the gym and I sure didn't have to worry about getting in my goal of 7500 steps! We went WAY over that.

Can't wait to see the scale in the morning -- at least if I can make it out of bed!

Wedding Day Jitters!

Tuesday, January 11, 2011

I'm up, I'm up! But now I've got other things to worry about . . . . . one of my main worries is how my hair will look! I see gray showing halfway up the side of my face and also right at the ears -- so I guess I'd better color it again. Why did I wait until the day of the wedding you are probably wondering? Well..... there is a method to my madness; my hair always looks perfect the day I color it. I don't know why, but it always does. So that will be done today. I even put it on my Spark Appointments!

My dog is clipped and shampooed -- so she's looking wonderful. . . . ya, she'll most likely upstage me and get all the attention!

My house is vacuumed and polished -- and all the Christmas decorations are down and put away. Hope I don't see something I missed just as the ceremony is taking place! You know how, when company comes, you always seem to see that one little thing you missed.

I've tried on the dress that was my final decision at least 10 times now. So unless it shrunk a size overnight, I guess I'll still be able to get into it...... now I just hope my feet will hold up in those "high" heels that I'm not used to wearing. And I'm so used to having my pedometer snapped on my shoe, I wonder if it would be OK to snap it on my heels -- I'd hate to miss count on all those steps I'll be taking!

I took my "soon-to-be-hubby" out for Mexican food late yesterday afternoon, as that's his favorite -- it was a bribe for going with me to run errands. Of course we both gained weight because of it. He said he gained 4 pounds! I just smiled at him and said "that Mexican food will do it every time, must be the chips!" I did not feel it was nearly as funny when I saw that I had gained a whole pound!

Well, with one eye on the clock and the other eye just roaming around -- I'll just say a little prayer and hope everything goes well today; I know that tomorrow when I log back into SP I'll have people wanting details and looking for pictures (which of course I won't have yet) -- actually I think I'll settle down and relax once my hair is done and I'm dressed. (sigh) Can I have that glass of wine now?

Just relax, honey! You don't need that glass of wine. Just do some deep breathing exercises. You are going to be a most lovely bride, you, know! All is well and you are embarking on the most exciting journey of your life with this great guy! Isn't it wonderful how we can go along on more than one journey at a time?! WHEN you get pics, I will be so excited to see you and your special day!!!!
So the next time you want to "bribe" your honey to go along to run errands, choose something not so high caloric! hehe
Be well!! emoticonHappy life!!!

3 More Days.... and it will be my WEDDING!

Friday, January 07, 2011

emoticonAlthough I put an icon of a traditional "bride" on this blog, I will not be dressed even remotely like that. This is not the 1st, or even the 3rd time around for me (and can you believe they are ALL dead?) -- so I figured why bother to hold with tradition!

I'm being very scandalous and plan on wearing a gorgeous black dress with tiny little black beads crisscrossing the bodice, then below the waist it flares out in an overskirt of sheer material, looking very feminine. I will have on diamond earrings and a diamond necklace and on my shoulder will be a creamy white orchid. My heels will have glittery rhinestone dust on them (the diamond effect) and my groom will also be dressed in a black suit with a light pink shirt and gray tie. Diamond tietack. He will have a light pink carnation in his lapel -- and the best man will also. I believe the matron of honor is wearing black or black/white and she will have a corsage of 2 pink rosebuds with baby's breath. We even have a professional photographer coming to the house so there will not be any cut off heads or stupid looks on someone's face. (If she takes those she can also throw them away! haha) Then. . . . . like good friends should, we are all going out to dinner at a nice restaurant near here. It will only be about 6 o'clock, but hey! we're senior citizens! I was asked if I will have a wedding cake!!?? Actually, I am not a big "cake" eater, so if there is any way to avoid it, I will. But we might have one at a reception that we will have a bit later.

No honeymoon right now, but on March 9th we are flying to Peru for an entire month! Now..... THAT'S A HONEYMOON! I'll be breathless at 14,000 feet. You bet I will!

So the countdown is this week-end, then Monday..... then TUESDAY, that's the day!!!!! You realize that day will be 1-11-11 -- 5ones (my new email address!)

Congratulations to you. When I got married I wore a pink floral print dress (very Hawaiian, even though we were in a chapel.) I had a bright orange flower in my hair. Be happy, be healthy, enjoy it, you don't have to dress or do what everyone else does. We had a very small thing with dinner afterwards as well, and we didn't have a cake. I asked my Mom to make a tray of tiny homemade different desserts. So there were little bites of brownie, cheesecake, and cookies, because I'm not a big cake person, and my husband doesn't care as long as it's sweet. My mother in law was miffed, but we were happy. :)

Notice the Changes

Wednesday, January 05, 2011

Have you ever noticed that all of a sudden you realize how many changes have occurred in the way you eat. You start out with the idea that you will cut down on starches, or maybe sugar or fat -- whatever you have in your plans, and if you are deligent, suddenly you realize that you don't even CRAVE some of these items any longer!

When I first started out years ago, I switched to "diet" sodas. But within the past 2 or 3 years I realized I have probably had a total of one or two sodas - period! I also realize that I do not eat pizza at least every 2 weeks or once a month -- it is more like once or twice PER YEAR!

If we were told that these changes would take place when we first started to be aware of what we should and should not be eating -- we probably wouldn't believe it! But when we're been on our "healthy lifestyle" for a period of time, it surprises and pleases even US to see how many good changes we have incorporated into our daily lifestyle!

To all of you who can relate to these changes that kind of sneak up on you -- I make a toast to you! Congratulations on a new healthier life!

Yes, indeed, we need to pay attention to our bodies and to our surroundings.

I recently got re-inSPired and as I lost 18# I realized there were a few things that were coming EASIER to me. We just have to Pay Attention.

Thanks for the wake up
We ALL can use it

You know, you're right! There was a time I couldn't pass up a package of Oreo's, now I just pass over them and go for popcorn, dry roasted nuts or yogurt...out of the dozens of cookies I baked for the Holidays, I may have had 3 or 4..I just wasn't interested! Now, if I could only feel that way about chocolate! emoticon emoticon

Happy New Year, I Welcome 2011

Sunday, January 02, 2011

emoticon I did toast the New Year but it was well before midnite! And I did use champagne to do it!

As we had driven to our home in the mountains to greet the New Year, it was a very quiet, cold, snow covered, not-party-mode type of celebration. In fact, to use the word celebration in describing my New Year's Eve sounds like I don't have a good grasp of the English language. lol

It was slow in coming, but I do realize now that if I track my food, and don't kid myself by cheating (that means eating sweets) that I can consistently lose weight because that's exactly what I did for our few days stranded (almost) in the snow-covered area we spent Thursday thru Saturday in. I started out at 145 or so, and by having NO TREATS, my weight ended up at 142.4 which isn't bad when you consider I had very little exercise. When it's 17 degrees it doesn't make you want to go out for long walks, especially on roads that are icy and very slippery.

I hope during 2011 that we all find the eating plan that works for us specifically and the exercise plan that meshes well with it. One that is do-able! Today, I enjoyed the warm (compared to 17) weather here in Phoenix and took my dog for a really long walk. And although I ate out tonight, I think everything will balance out and I'll still be happy with the number on the scale!

Happy 2011 everyone! emoticon

Nice loss!! I behaved, too and saw a five pound loss for December!! But, I let go and ate naughty, sweet and fatty snacks on New Year's Eve and saw an almost 3 pound gain on Jan.1!! So, stick to your guns, girl......eating right is the best way, b/c now I have to re-lose those pounds to slip back under 170 and continue down the slope!!! (So ready forSpringtime!!)
Great blog!
Happy New Year!!
Let's do this thing!!!
