About a month ago, I went shopping at Target for their off-brand Emergen-C and happened to browse their clothing. I LOVE the Converse line of clothes, there's a particular shirt I have that's very slimming, and so a top caught my eye in the clearance rack. It's a bit of a change from what I'm used to...it's purple patterned colored with sheer material and sleeveless with a cowl neck and armholes that are tapered inwards. It's not the most flattering thing in the world if you don't have the right body type. The only thing hiding my body type when I tried it on was the excess I have been carrying.
My cousin insisted I buy the shirt, mostly because she wanted to "borrow" it and it was only $4.
About a week later I went to put the shirt on for work, not thinking much of it. Until I looked in the mirror. Wow, it did NOT look good.
Well, this morning, I don't know what I was feeling. I guess I was just feeling brave or adventurous...but I put it on.
Wow, it looks great.
On top of that...I've gotten quite a few compliments.
It's a purple sort of day.

I've been having a rough week.
My dog decided that inside was a better place to go to the bathroom yesterday, I have a baby shower that I'm helping host on Saturday (that I'm not even sure if I want to be around for), I have my car acting up, and my boyfriend still being a pain about getting his driver's license. Add in traffic, the long wait for reimbursement checks, and attempting to write for both websites and I've got quite a bit of stress.
Thank goodness it rained last night.
After a downpour, it was gorgeous. The earth actually smelled normal, as opposed to super-dry as the drought has driven its olfaction and the sky felt electric. Add in the fact that it was a good 30 degrees cooler and, well, meditating outside was a very nice experience.
Unfortunately, I still feel like I'm getting ill and I'm not sure if it's sickness or just out of control allergies. I've been hitting the vitamin C like a good girl, but I'm still having issues. Maybe I should meditate more tonight.

I have a pretty standard day job, I work for a bank. I'm at different locations often, so it keeps things interesting. For one, I have options about eating out without being unhealthy. I mean to say, I don't get sick of the little super-healthy café around the corner from X location because I'm only there once every month or two. The major downside to working for a bank?
Bankers know how to snack.
Don't believe me? Well, let's put it to this...you can't tip someone at a bank. At least not in money. You can tip any other service-based position, but we're legally not allowed to take your money except to put it into your account. So people bring us food. And lots of it.
And I've been learning to just say no.
I'm super happy with myself because I've not only passed up cookies today (with M&Ms, no less), but also candy. I'm holding back because I know I've got a yummy streusel cake waiting at home for me, and that little piece of indulgence later is all that I need. Besides, my smoothie is sweet every morning! Go me!

Holy wow! I just logged my swimming minutes from the weekend and I had no honest idea that it would be that many calories burned. It's actually a great motivator, even despite my dislike of water and chlorine and sunlight. I think I might keep tonight a gym night, anwyays, because I need a really good workout for my legs. My trip to Utah is less than three weeks away now and I've got to be in shape for the hiking so I don't get left behind. I think I might have to start with some weight on my back as well...perhaps just an empty or lightly filled backpack. It's a great start.

Well, I'm officially one week into one of the biggest changes of my diet: actually eating breakfast. Actually, more like DRINKING breakfast. One week ago today I made my first smoothie and I haven't gone a single day without one since. Sometimes it's not BREAKFAST per say, but it's still making me feel so good.
My trick? It's not just about the fruits. I've been stuffing at least 1/2 a cup of greens (usually spinach, but some kale) and 2 tablespoons of flax seed in every morning mix, as well as 1/2 a cup of soy milk. I'm an avid milk drinker, so I don't know if I could EVER make that switch in my day-to-day consumption of dairy, but I feel really good about putting it in my smoothie. Oh, and another trick is that I refuse to add any sweetener. I don't care if it's a natural sweetener, the fruit is usually sweet enough (with the exception of one strawberry-orange-kiwi disaster on Monday).
Last week, before Thursday that is, I found myself falling asleep at my desk (and fighting it on my commute) and I know sleep deprivation is causing me a lot of issue. I didn't want to fight that with caffeine, so I started putting orange in my smoothie first thing. They're super cheap at the Farmer's Market right now, so it was no problem at all. This week I'm just wishing the pineapple would have been in better shape...there's only so much you can do with strawberry without making it too bitter!
So now I've got a few things I haven't used yet in my morning smoothies and I need some hints or ideas. I've been sitting on cantaloupe, mint, kiwi, and carrots. I know I can't put TOO much carrot in my morning smoothie because my blender isn't very high-powered, but I would love some suggestions!
