A new day and a new year

Tuesday, January 01, 2013

Happy New Year dear friends. We had a very quiet one. Went out to eat and then home to warmth.

This is my time to get started on a new me. Weight was 178.5 this morning, hopfully by Feb. 1st it will be lighter. I have been reading and found some enlightening things to share.

Don't buy olive oil sold in clear glass. Light degrades the heart-healthy oil so look for olive oil sold in opaque containers.

Lose weigh by simple breathing more efficiently. Meaning to breath in and out throught both your mouth and nose during your workout so oxygen can help fuel your fat burn.

Don't use the middle stall in the ladies room. It is used the most and accumtlates more bacteria. The first stall is likely the cleanest.

Eat apples - they are one of the best fatgue fighting foods you can eat. They are a combination of nutural sugars and fiber.

This one is important to me - If you don't eat enough of the right foods, your body won't get enough of the nutrients it needs to stay energized. I have problems with this.

I need to see if I can find Almond Butter. They say if you swap it for peanut butter it can give you more bone-building calcium then peanut butter.

Th biggest culprits for salt are processed and packaged foods. 80% of the sodium in our diets are found in premade crackers, cookies, cereal, soups, frozen dinners and pasta sauces.

Dancing is a great way to get slim, healthy, and happy. It combines physical excercise, social interaction and the mental challenge of following new steps. Moving to music subtracts stress and adds joy. Its not work, its entertainment as it burns calories and fat. Thats why I love Zumba. A 1 hour class can burn as many as 400 calories.

Finally - put youself first. I know this is hard with family, but I am learning that I am number one. Make me time and everyone will be happy.

Now is the time to put all of this into action. My life and health will be my goal this 2013 year. The head is on straight again and I will not let this winter weather get me down. Threadmill here I come and thank God Zumba starts up again on Wednesday. emoticon

A lot of good ideas here! Almond butter is by the peanutbutter and it is pretty expensive for a small jar. I am not ready to start using it, but I have used almond milk in my oatmeal.

Excellent start to a healthier New Year. I found almond butter at my local health food store. Comes in unsalted as well. It is pretty tasty! Spark ON!

Last day of 2012

Monday, December 31, 2012

Sitting here this morning with thoughts of 2012 and how I hope to make 2013 a good year. Last night was a bad night for sleeping so I made it productive and finally made a collage to hang by my threadmill. I now need to start keeping a journal on my eating. Yesterday, for some reason I went whacky and ate alot doing the day, so sure that is why not sleeping. Plus thinking of my little friend at the care center. I just don't know how she can keep going, but God must have a plan for her. I think sometimes it is my fault for I had asked for her to make it thru December but hate seeing her suffer. We should watch what we ask God for.

They are talking -20 tonight so glad we have know plans. I am off to get my walking done on the threadmill and then start making a plan on eating. Tomorrow will be weight in day and measurements to get the month started off right.

Brrr, sounds like it's getting cold there, stay warm! I found that my sleep was greatly affected last week after my binge and poor eating. Starting to normalize now, thank goodness.

I'm so glad you got a collage done, they truly can be very inspirational and help keep us focused on our goals. Tomorrow I'm going to make a new little one to post on my fridge as an extra reminder and motivator.

I'm off to work now, have a wonderful day!

29th and more snow

Saturday, December 29, 2012

The year is almost over and now that it has snowed it doesn't know how to stop. Got my threadmill in this morning and now need to get out and get some groceries bought. I don't have much in fruit or veggies in the house.
Two more days and we will usher in 2013 and will work real hard at meeting my goals. On the 2nd of January I will weigh in and take my measurements and post on the calendar that is next to my threadmill. For every day that I get on I add a star to the date. The beginning of every month I will do the same thing, weigh and measure. My next step is to make up a collage and put up also. My goals and wishes for the New Year. Can't wait for Zumba to get started again for I feel like I am getting lazy and flabby again. emoticon

Just catching up on your last two blogs. Yay on not gaining over the holidays, that's a great indicator on how well you have developed your planning around big meals and celebrations, I'm so proud of you!

Great idea for having the calendar next to the treadmill and having a star system to encourage you to get on every day. I like the idea of weighing and measuring every month, helps keep that scale from taking control of our lives. 2013 is going to be an amazing year for both of us, I'm excited to be sharing it with you.

It's a gorgeous snowy day in NW Iowa, the snow just sparkles in the sunlight. Good thing the wind isn't blowing! emoticon

Quiet time

Friday, December 28, 2012

The family all left yesterday. Dh and son went with to Austin to have pizza with them before they left to go on to Wisconsin. I was suppose to bowl, so stayed home. Then it started snowing so they cancelled bowling. Darn I could have gone too, but think it was Gods way of saying you can't eat the pizza because of the tomatoe sauce and you don't need anything else. So enjoyed the quiet and caught up on washing.

I braved it out this morning and stepped on the scale. No losing but no gaining also. So I am very happy about that. Now I have to get my head on straight again and get the eating down again and the excercise. I am sure we will not be going any place or doing anything for New Years. So shouldn't have any temptations. I will be going grocery shopping some time later and get the veggies and fruits back in the house. The kids want to meet in the cities on Jan. 25 (daughters birthday) and stay at a hotel and go to the Twins fest on Saturday. So will check into reservations.

Time to get going on the threadmill and start making out menus to follow. emoticon emoticon emoticon

The day after

Wednesday, December 26, 2012

All is quiet. Everyone is mellowed out this morning. Playing with their new games or still sleeping. Plans are maybe going to a movie today since it is sooooo cold.

I ate a few things I shouldn't have but no gain so far. I did get sick early this morning with an acid bubble. It has been a long time since that has happened and I remember hating it before. So to day is going to be very very good on the eating . The kids head home tomorrow and then it will be cleaning up around and getting back into a routine of excercies and eating.

I have great expectations for myself for the new year. It might be slow but it will happen.

I love the mellow quiet that seems to follow the hectic days before Christmas. I'm glad you are getting to enjoy some of that mellow time. Sorry to hear you didn't feel so great though and hope that today you are feeling better.

Slow progress if often the truest progress since it's a lifestyle change, not a quick fix. Good luck meeting your goals!

My kids have been absorbed by Christmas bounty too. I ate more and richer foods too. Think I might Invest in fitness items in the new year.
