My hubby (aka Mr_Immortal) and I have been working on a project for the last few months.
Earlier this year, we had to place my mother (a lifelong smoker) permanently in a long term care facility. One of the biggest roadblocks we faced, other than rehoming her beloved cat, was the fact that she couldn't smoke. A friend of ours recommend that we get her an e-cig, which we did. We started with Blu, and she liked them well enough, but they were very expensive mostly because they were so unreliable, and had to be replaced pretty often. So we started looking around for alternatives, and discovered a vapor shop the next town over. We got her a vapor pen and a couple of bottles of the flavored e-juice, and it was a hit!
So, one day while we were leaving this particular shop, I mentioned to Mr_Immortal that it was just too bad that we had to drive 20 miles to get her e-juice, and wouldn't it be great if a vapor shop opened in our town?
We looked at each other and inspiration hit! We have a few empty buildings on the town square, and after finding out who owns them, I paid the gentleman a visit. The owner is an old lawyer who is very interested in revitalizing our downtown area. He heard our idea, got behind it 100%, and offered us a rent so low that we had to pick our jaws up off the floor. We told him we were still in the early planning stages and would get back to him in a couple of months.
So we've been doing some research, and had set a tentative starting date of mid-October. We went to see our future landlord again, and he mentioned that someone had been to see him just a few days before expressing interest in opening a vapor shop. He told this person that he already had reserved that building for the exact same type of shop. But his message to us was that we better hurry up before someone beat us to the punch. Mr_Immortal and I looked at each other, gulped, and took the keys. Our start date has been moved up significantly - we hope to have the store open by the middle of next month - just in time for the 4-day fall festival that happens on the square every year.
We are equal parts excited and terrified. But we have the total (and frankly somewhat surprising) support of most of our friends and family, and what appears to be a lot of excitement from the vape-lovers here in our town.
Mr_Immortal is going to quit his full time job and run the shop. I'll keep my full time job and help out in the shop in the evenings and on weekends.
And so that's it. We are going to be small business owners.

I "started over" on July 29, 2013. It's a
This has been a rough year. We've had to place my mom in a nursing facility after lots of illnesses, caregiving, and fights. Lots of job uncertainty. Lots of medical issues for my hubby and son. Financial issues (d/t hubby & son's medical issues, and having a kid in college!) So, yeah - pretty rough.
I'm pretty proud of myself for hanging in there and keeping at this. I had hoped to be much further along towards my goal by now (curse you, plateaus, CURSE YOU!) but I've lost 71 pounds in the past year, and I'm happy about that.
I recently updated my nutrition settings and my exercise minutes, and I'm finally starting to see some movement on the scale again - as of this morning, I'm 8 pounds away from my next small goal!
I've tried not to set "date" goals, because my body can be pretty stubborn. I wish I had listened when people said how hard it is to lose weight after you turn 40 - it's the truth! Anyway, when I set a date goal, the date comes and goes, and I haven't hit my goal, and that's discouraging. So I've just focused on working towards each small goal, and tried not to pay any attention to time passing. This last plateau I just broke through lasted for 2 months!
But as of today, I have a date in my head - I want to reach 250 by October 13. (Heck, I want to be less than 250 by then, but let's be realistic!) That's a little more than two pounds per week. I think I can do that! But while I'm keeping the date in my head, my main focus will be seeing the scale slide down, no matter how quickly or slowly it goes!
I'm not giving up - 113 pounds to go!

I've been frustrated the last several weeks because my weight loss seems to have stalled out. I've been exercising and staying (mostly!) within my calorie range, but I just can't move past this plateau. I've been bouncing between 275 and 279 for weeks now.
It just occurred to me this morning that I hadn't edited my goals for awhile. I know this is something I need to do - heck, it's what I had to do to break though my last plateau!
So, I edited my goals, and wow, I lost a lot of calories per day! OK, only about 300, but now I know why I've been stuck!
Everything is now updated, so I'm hoping to see a good loss this time next week!
