Practise time

Saturday, October 29, 2011

So, I got myself to Roller Derby Practise today. We did speed skating skills today with a speed skating expert. That did mean that we had a lot of standing abour whilst we were watching each other, but I think I learnt one or two things. I'm going back to practise in the evening on Monday and Thursday to apply those skills. I missed the basic skills test last week because of the marathon. But, one of the refs (Mimey Vice) is being lovely and letting me and two or three other people take the skills test in an evening. For those of you not familar with Roller Derby, if I can pass the basic skills, it means that I can train with the intermediate skaters, learn more skills and even maybe be allowed to be on the B team and bout. So I'd REALLY like to pass! I'm not sure if I will, because I haven't been at training as much due to marathon training, but hey hum. We'll sind out when it happens.

Lists

Friday, October 28, 2011

Again, I have been absent from Sparkpeople (BAD CSISILVERLOCK-naughty!) but I haven't been idle. As some of you may already know, I completed my first EVER half marathon last sunday. I couldn't believe it-I still can't (neither can many of my family) 13.1 miles in 2hours 11mins 11 seconds. It didn't really hit me what I had done until the next morning, I mean wow! How many people do I know who have done what I have done? Off the top of my head: five! Not including myself. When I consider that I know fourty people just from roller derby, that's impressive.

Anyway, I really want to get to 140 by Christmas. I have been at 146 since February! Mainly because I keep getting set offtrack. But that new swatch watch that I promised myself for getting to GW3 would look mighty fine on my wrist. So I want to get there by the 25th of Dec. And my main issue is FOOD. I do so much exercise that I just think 'HELL, I can eat what I want!' Which I can't.

Really, I just need to be more organised, and make more lists, which is what I like doing if I'm honest. So that's what I'll be doing, making lists and feeling smug as I tick them off. I'm also making streaks a rewardable thing. I have an excel document (I love excel documents. I'm in geek heaven when I create them) with a number of things I can streak and I reward myself 5p for every day I continue a streak. The money goes in my savings account for some treat, I don't know what yet. It's nice to know it's there though.

Well, hopefully I can streak this forever now!

Congrats on the half. That is an amazing accomplishment!

I know what you mean about food. I'm going over by a ton more days than not the past few weeks. I've got exercise on lock down, but I cannot get my eating under control lately.

'Meh', 'Gah', 'Eh' and other noises of indifference.

So I'm in school right now, trying to do some work for the new term which starts on Monday. And I just can't find the motivation! I have four year groups to teach, and I have managed to plan a whole terms work for one of them. I'm battling on with it, but it's really hard to find the motivation, when all I actually want to do is go outside and run.

Yeap, you heard me, I WANT TO RUN. Not sit in a chair and watch tv, or nap, or play a computor game. I want to go outside and do something healthy and active.

Now who would have thought I could want to do that because I can-not because I want to burn up crazy amounts of kcals.

Well I'll be...

Strength, strength, strength!

Tuesday, August 30, 2011

So I'm training for a half marathon. It's going well so far, I can run 8 miles, so only 5 miiles off the target! I'm following a training plan where it reccommends I rest from cardio completely once or twice a week, so I chose today as a cardio rest day.

That didn' t stop me from going to the gym and abusing the free weights! 14 different strength exercises, using 3-4kg weights, a resistance band, a step bench and a gym ball. I hadn't done a a gym session focused on weights for ages, and I was suprised that it did get my heart rate going. My muscles felt really achey afterwards, but in a good way. So I want to do that more often, epecially after the half marathon.

Sounds great! I've been training for a half marathon too but started to have knee problems and I've had to take a break. I'm gutted because I love running and although I'm still exercising it feels like so much more of a chore..

Good luck!

I just finished a 35-minute strength training program and was amazed at how much better I felt afterwards. I worked out hard ,and I was dripping with sweat. But this is a kind of workout that I don't get with swimming, running, and other exercise. I use ChaLean Extreme and constantly hear that muscle is the fountain of youth, etc. I just know that I perform better when I strength train, have much less risk of injury, and love the endorphin rush.

Sounds like a nice workout! I'm training for a Half, too, though my longest run (this year) has been 7 miles. I, too, had today off from cardio & did weights instead, but through a BodyPump class. I wonder hoe I'll feel tomorrow? I really worked my upper body, though I worked lower, too. It felt great!
