Anytime Fitness vs. YMCAWednesday, February 29, 2012
Matt & I have been members of Anytime Fitness for over 3 years. It is a very nice new & clean gym with private changing rooms... it is right across the street from my work. We chose it because I would go to the gym during my lunch hour. Because of my health issues, I haven't been going very much lately. Matt doesn't go unless it is bad weather because he prefers to run outside. ![]()

I learned to swim at the Y. I've also taken many classes with them over the years. I think they are a great organization. Although, I will say that facilities do vary from place to place. Some are better than others. And yes, even at my local Y, the lockers are not conveniently located. The gym was well, just like my high school gym ! LOL !! It wasn't particularly spiffy, but it was functional. That being said, I've always found the instructors and personal trainers to be excellent. So, if you don't decide to go, don't let their less than perfect facilities be the reason you don't. Not to sound cliche, but all that glitters is not gold. While I do appreciate a clean and tidy gym, I also appreciate good service and good trainers. I've been to fancy gyms that looked great, but had lousy service and instructors. I'm sure the Y is like many companies i.e. cutting service because of the down turned economy. Don't let that be a strike against them. Report Inappropriate Comment |

I'm in agreement with the other posters, you sound like you want to stick w/ the Anytime Fitness, and it sounds like it worked well for you when you were going before your health issues. Do you think you can start up again on a regular basis? One other thing you may want to try before deciding is can you get a free trial at the Y? That may help to decide if you would even want a membership there. Report Inappropriate Comment |

Stick with Anytime, Claudia! I was a member of our local Y at one point. Lots of unsupervised, undisciplined kids running around. A friend of mine had a similar experience at another Y location here.

You have to go where you will be motivated to go... if the Y doesn't really appeal to you then you may not be motivated to go. Besides, sometimes it's nice to do things without the kids. Using your lunch hour is a plus. Even tho you can't go as much now, your health should get straightened out and then you can go more often. Whatever choice you make is a good one because you are investing in your health! Report Inappropriate Comment |

I would stick with the gym you are in now. Cleanliness is very important. I have a friend with a Y membership who got contact dermatitus from the unclean weights. Who knows what kinds of fungi and bacteria are lurking around in an unclean gym?

You need to do what is best for you guys. Do you think you would bring the kids? Would you do the open swim? Did you check the schedule for the classes (they may not be convenient) It sounds to me like you prefer your current gym, but if you think the girls will go with you and use the Y then go for it. I am a girl who has NO gym membership, so I am not really the one to answer this!! LOL Good luck.

Maybe you can complain to YMCA Director that you would enjoy their membership but cleanliness needs to be addressed first. Explain to them how much you and your children could benefit from going to their YMCA versus the membership you have now. Me, I prefer a clean gym. But talk to someone at the YMCA and see if some things fall in your favor. :)

The new inhaler I was put on is Dulera. This replaces my daily inhaler & my fast-acting inhaler. I had to stop my fast-acting inhaler (pro-air) due to high heart rate. Doctor says if this one does it, I'll have to go to a cardiologist.
Well, at first I thought it was my imagination, but I think Dulera is causing high heart rate, jitteryness, hoarse voice & shaky hands. I've been on it for almost a week. When I go in for my allergy shots tomorrow, I am going to ask the nurse. I REALLY DON'T want to see a cardiologist. I'm really hoping this is just my imagination because my breathing seems to have improved on this inhaler. I haven't exercised though, because I am afraid I would have a stroke or something. I haven't mentioned this to my husband, because his mom thinks I'm a hypochondriac.
I wish my parents wouldn't have named me Claudia... Did you know that Claudia means LAME?!?!?! Yikes! I'm already a walking medicine cabinet.

I'm telling Matt if you don't tell him! Even little sisters look out for big sisters sometimes. I'm sorry you're feeling crappy. :( Report Inappropriate Comment |

Ok did you mean to sound like a commercial at the start of this blog. The whole "This replaces my daily inhaler & my fast-acting inhaler. I had to stop my fast-acting inhaler" sounds like a commercial to me. Ok now that I got that out of the way. I do not think you are a hypochondriac, and I doubt your husband does either!! YOu need to take care of you and you need to keep hubby informed of your health!! TELL HIM!!! Ok keep me posted on what the dr says tomorrow, but did you get that I wanted you to tell hubby?!?!? Don't take things so literally on the meaning of your name. Beside the website that I looked at had the meaning as "Disabled" whats in a name anyway? Don't sweet it. I can tell you that you are the Claudia that I know and to me that is cool Every one knows a Sandra or Sandy, and Sandy is also a dogs name. People tell me that all the time, or that they know a guy with that name. I would rather have a name that doesn't have the same meaning of being covered in Sand!! Report Inappropriate Comment |
