Setting Priorities

Monday, July 16, 2012

I spent some time in reflection today. I finished the garage clean out ahead of schedule. My list of projects is more focused.

I will be working on my first newsletter for the retired school employees in my county. I must get it to the printers Monday or Tuesday of next week.

I still need to finish the revision of the bylaws and make copies for a meeting on Thursday. Everything will get done....eventually!

My cleaning specialist will arrive on Friday afternoon to help me begin the restoration of stuff in the garage.

I may golf tomorrow in 98 degree heat? Maybe not!

Major challenge, but Honor

Sunday, July 15, 2012

My cousin's husband passed away on July 4th. She knew I was serving my church in he visitation ministries. As she did not have a church or pastor, she asked me to write the Celebration of Life Service and also the commital service for burial. I am a lay leader in my church.

I prayed about this. I have been dealing with death and dying with relatives so funeral services are not strange to me. I gave the eulogy for about 5 persons now. I serve as a liturgist and write prayers. I felt the nudge to move forward. I felt I was doing the service for the family, friends, and his coworkers.

The Celebration of Life service occurred on Friday evening. There were approximately 50 people in attendance. Most were from the engineering firm that he was a part of. He worked there for 50 years. The service was well received. My cousin was pleased. I asked my pastor to review the service - just in case prior to the day of the service.

The burial went well and it was just the family. I spent about 15 hours reviewing services and selecting inspirational readings to get the proper touch for the service.

I felt honored to help my cousin and those who were present deal with their grief.

I'm sure they appreciated your work-what an honor that they asked you to do it.

Getting more projects done!

Thursday, July 12, 2012

The next ten days will bring several projects on the To Do List to completion
I dropped off my golf clubs to have them shortened to fit me. Hopefully I will have less hand pain.

We cleaned out the garage. Items are in the utility room and my exercise/office. On Wednesday we will have the garage floor redone and the garage painted. The job is to be done by Friday.

My cleaning specialist and I will place the shelving and items back in the garage. We will do some cleaning. Husband will move back his books.

I scheduled the carpet cleaner to coming out the week after the project is finished and after my cleaning specialist does the cleaning in our living quarters.

I did begin the decluttering of the attic bedroom. That will take more time.

Wow, I bet it feels great to be able to check things off that list. I need to do that, too, but I would have to actually start. lol

Writing!

Tuesday, July 10, 2012

I am busy writing and editing this week.
1. The Celebration of Life service for Edward Toll is 7 pm on Friday. I have the scriptures and most of the homily. I still need to focus on the prayer, gathering and sending liturgy.
2. The burial is on Saturday with just the family. I still need scripture, prayer, and words of comfort. I found a poem that should be perfect.
3. I am helping to revise the bylaws for the retiree group. I meet with the president on Wednesday evening.
4. I am editing the newsletter for BCASR (my retiree group). Final articles and pictures come in this weekend.
5. My husband's birthday is Thursday; my birthday is Saturday. We noted our only evening in common to be Monday. Hence we celebrated last evening.

We are becoming flexible!

Wow! I think I'm a little jealous--you have so much to do and you're figuring out how to get it all done. And you're doing the one thing that I'm not--writing! Good on you; keep up the great work!

Do what needs to be done at a certain time when it needs to be done, do everything else when you can. Good plan.

Make it a great day!

New Opportunity

Monday, July 09, 2012

My cousin, Carolyn, called me about two weeks ago to state that her husband was in hospice and dying. On July 4th, she called to report his death. I offered to help her in anyway she needed.

Much to my surprise, she honored my faith and belief as she asked me to give the religious words at the celebration of life service for her husband. She also asked me to do this at the cemetery.

God, you do give me new opportunities with 30 years of caregving of my father, helping my mother as her hospice partner, caregiving of my husband, and working with members of our congregation. I prayed deeply and then began to put the scriptures together. Now words to connect the scriptures to Edward's life and fami y are flowing. I decided to use a warm welcoming statement for a celebration of life service. A coworker will give the eulogy. I need to write the prayer.

I ran things by my pastor, Rev. Meg. I also spoke with the funeral director. So much to do!
