I now have a DIFFERENT sweet tooth

Wednesday, May 12, 2010

Hi! This blog will be brief but will make a valid point. At one of my stops, I went into the break room, saw trays of chocolate chip cookies and fresh strawberries. I took 2 bites of the cookie, then tossed it in the trash, that was enough for me (gives new meaning to tossing one's cookies, sorry couldn't resist LOL). I feasted on 3 large strawberries and found that to be more satisfying believe it or not! I've grown to love fruits better than anything from the bakery--wow! Who'd have thought! For today, my sweet-treat will be kiwi fruit AND strawberries---yum! And of course that's for dessert after I eat my sensible turkey sandwich lunch with mustard, NO mayo (another item off my list) emoticon emoticon emoticon
PS: I just purchased a new blender so we can make fruit smoothies now that the summer's almost here emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Strawverries have been such a regular staple around our house these days...! Also enjoying fresh pineapple too!

Our food processor has been one of our main machines in our kitchen. I use it all the time to make my hummus.

I'm blogging to be accountable

Saturday, May 01, 2010

Hi Spark friends! My husband and I are FINALLY moved into our new home! Right now, it's Saturday, I'm at the former house doing the final cleaning and packing and am ready to get lunch. I was briefly tempted to go to a fast-food joint to be honest, but decided to come here at sparkpeople.com and read suggestions for healthier alternatives instead emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon
Our local supermarket offers a nice salad bar selection, I'm gonna opt for that (as you can see by the emoticons). They also have grilled chicken and salad greens. Posting this blog just saved me from regret, thanks!

Great decision. In the end, I bet it was the satisfaction from making the right choices that made you feel good in comparison from the quick satisfaction from going to a fast food place, which is in my case always followed by anger at myself for having gone!

Spark People REALLY changed me

Thursday, April 22, 2010

Yesterday evening, just as I was leaving work, I received a disturbing call from my husband that someone jumped a red light and he got hit hard passenger side. By some miracle, no one was hurt (but alot of damage). Even though everyone was okay, I was still shaken. When I got home, instead of "just eating" out of extreme stress, I grabbed a bottle of water, had a low-fat turkey sandwich, then snacked on fresh, unsweetened strawberries. During the two hours before my husband came home (he had to call the insurance company, talk to the police, etc), I prayed to God FIRST, got online here to SP, and made up my mind to NOT slip back into an old habit of overeating.
Thanks once again for "listening", spark friends, I'm waking up very thankful and grateful that it wasn't a worst-case scenario.

Whew! Scary stuff! But WOO HOO to how well you handled it!

Hope there isn't too much aggravation re: insurance, repairs, etc. However NONE of it can compare to the tragedy of a serious injury or loss of life!

You've been such a TERRIFIC part of our SparkFamily...!

I hope that everything turns out okay with the car. I am glad you made the choices you made last night because if you didn't you would be upset about that too. Way to go!!!

There's no place like home

Tuesday, April 13, 2010

Hi Spark Friends! It's been quite a while since I've posted a blog, we've been busy with house-hunting. It's official, we are now under contract, we went from being renters to buying a home we really love! Suffice it for me to say that all the packing, moving, and cleaning is a work-out in and of itself LOL. My husband & I will be moving out at the end of this month. We will also have a huge backyard and I already have plans to make part of it my work-out space, weather permitting. Ok, my break time is over----now to do some more packing emoticon

Looking forward to hearing more about your new abode once you've settled in!

What did I EVER see in THAT type of eating

Thursday, February 25, 2010

Yesterday, I had my annual evaluation (which went great!). Three days a week, I am on the road going to and servicing dialysis units. I bring my lunch most of the time and when I don't I go to a salad bar at the supermarket and get fruits and veggies and go to the deli to get either sliced turkey or chicken. Well, yesterday my supervisor came along with me (for the evaluation), and we stopped at a restaurant. Because we were under a time constraint, I just ordered the quickest item on the menu (they didn't have healthy choices). I got a hamburger and sweet potato fries (deep fried I think). Yes, I won't lie, it tasted good, but being that I got used to eating better than that, I felt sluggish & "in a fog" for the remainder of the day. Next year, I will do my research and find a better place to dine ( I didn't have time, I was working crazy hours to get everything up to proper standards). Well, now to get some oatmeal for breakfast emoticon

Isn't it great to find that way of eating "valueless" now! Is still endulge myself sometimes, well, more often than I want to. It's a time thing for me too. But I find that the fat seems to stick to me tongue. Yuck!

Thank you everyone for visiting my blog! And also thank you for your words of encouragement. Yes, this was an impromptu visit from one of the higher-ups for not only our evaluations, but for auditing. Well, I will do research (thank the good Lord for google LOL) and keep a list of dining places that offer healthier choices.

The realization is the first step. You did that when you noticed "the fog". The second step is planning. You've already done that by "planning" to research and be prepared for next year. The third and final step is to act! Best of luck on your journey! emoticon
