A nice surprise!

Sunday, February 01, 2009

When I came home from church, my husband surprised me with a beautiful bouquet of yellow flowers! He told me in three simple words as to why: "I love you". Needless to say, this really made my day! emoticon emoticon emoticon
This blog will be brief as we are getting ready for Superbowl Sunday. May the best team win!

Yeah! now to gently keep it neutral. I keep trying to strengthen my abs and back and if I'm steady about it, I seem to have less pain. Such a balance - do something - wait! NOT too much! haha I'm tellin' you - MERMAIDS!

Sciatica slowed me down for now.....

Saturday, January 17, 2009

For the past several days, I haven't done much workouts; once in a great while, sciatica hits me and leaves me feeling like someone hit me with a baseball bat and it's something I wouldn't wish on a junkyard dog. I DON'T want to take Rx meds for it. Here and there, I am taking Tylenol extra strength and that is helping, not 100%, but makes it more bearable, along with Absorbine Jr.
If anyone has any suggestions for this, I would surely welcome it. Thanks!

Hey Chris, I know how painful that can be. When I stood a lot on cement as a lifeguard I used to get it all the time. The thing that helped me was to get my brother(anyone) to stand on my bum and wiggle around, kneading the muscles. I would lie on the floor and put 2 chairs on either side of me (backs facing towards the middle). Then my brother would support most of his weight on the chairbacks and stand on my bum. It was no strain on him either, and I didn't have to have anyone touching me on my bum, which I would feel uncomfortable about. My brother thought it was very funny and didn't mind. It felt much better after doing it a few times for a few days in a row. I know it sounds crazy, but give it a try with your hubby or any girlfriends at work if you can go to an office and close the door for a few minutes.

I hope that helps and you get a chance to try it.

I never liked ice or thought that it would help but my dad got me this really NICE icepack - big and flat and I stuffed it into some sweatpants and used it and recovered much much faster than usual. Will it work for you? I dunno! Our back pain is all different. BUT I thought I'd tell you that was a big surprise that helped me. I hope you feel better soon! Sciatica stinks!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Thursday, January 01, 2009

I hope you have a very happy healthy and prosperous new year! My husband & I had a quite new year's eve at home with a healthy home-cooked lean eye of round roast with plenty of baked fresh veggies, and I'm proud to say that I had only one light beer to ring in the new year. The reason I'm making mention of that is because SparkPeople has changed me dramatically; normally I would have gorged to beyond comfortably full, had lord knows how many drinks, and stayed up til sunrise. So, instead of sleeping away any hangover, I am getting ready to put on my workout outfit and walk/jog.
Well, on that note, I am off and running (yes, pun intended)!
God bless you my friends and happy new year!
Chris

I was the worst dressed

Friday, December 26, 2008

Of course everyone is familiar with the good news/bad news phrase. Well, the good news is: we went to my brother in law's to spend Christmas day with him and his family (they're great and we always have a fun time!). Now for the "bad" news: because I wear a uniform for work and wear mostly either workout clothes or casual, I went to my closet to pick out one of my dressier, nicer clothes, and.....................(GASP!!) NOTHING fit me! They are all too BIG!! Oh no, I said! Here it is, Christmas day, no stores were open, I couldn't make a quick emergency trip to purchase any clothes! So...............here's what I had to do; I decided on a half-way decent pair of jeans that DO fit, put on the "smallest" blouse, took my belt to my husband for him to put new holes where it comfortably fit my waist, and cut off the remaining part of that belt so it wouldn't look obvious. We were laughing the whole time, commenting that we thought that things like this happened either in cartoons or sit-coms.
I received a few gift cards, so............needless to say, I will be replacing some of my wardrobe and donating the other clothes to a thrift store.
I hope everyone had a nice holiday, which ever one was celebrated! Well, now I'm off and running to go shopping for my New Year's outfit.................
