Irene, the persona non grata

Thursday, August 25, 2011

Just to let everyone know----we are getting prepared for the pending hurricane. My husband and son are getting several cases of bottled water and canned foods. Oh boy, we will try to make as healthy choices as possible by getting the "no salt and sugar added". For those who are reading this and you are in the path, be safe. Instead of getting "real" candles, we got the LED battery-operated ones which I feel is much safer and not a fire-hazard plus we got extra batteries for the flashlights. It is expected to hit Saturday, so being that it is Thursday, we still have 2 days. Let me know how you are doing with preparations----I care.

Batteries are definately a better option than candles. Good for you for getting water and canned goods. Don't forget to get some water stored in your bathroom to help you flush!

I wish you well and hope the damage is not too severe!

HELP!! I am BORED!!

Tuesday, August 16, 2011

Hi sparkers! It's been awhile. During the course of this month, I have been filling in for my vacationing co-worker and working 10-12 hour days every day except Sunday and won't have off until Monday. But that's not why I'm bored, I love my job. I am bored with the lunches I've been bringing---sandwiches, sandwiches, and MORE sandwiches. The only kind of sandwich I like is turkey and roast beef from the deli department but now I am getting tired of it. I don't like ham and peanutbutter makes me very thirsty. Yeah, I know I can google or look up suggestions here on SP, but I would like YOUR ideas and suggestions. Thanks, guys, I know you will suggest good alternatives emoticon

Do you have a microwave available to use at work? I often bring leftovers but one place I worked did not have a microwave so I got a "hot Pot and could heat up spaghetti or soups or stews or .... you get the picture.

I often take some fruit and some cut up veggies for my snacks. Helps keep me away from the junk food usually found in vending machines.

I very seldom eat sandwiches but sometimes I do take one just for a change of pace, lol

Salads, leftovers is always a good thing for lunch, veggies, fruits. I'm a pretty routine person when it comes to lunches, I usually eat salads every day, but ocassionally I bring in dinner leftovers. Tuna on lettuce is good.

I get pretty boring with my lunches too...but I kinda like that. Wandering off the beaten path often leads me to trouble!

But the things I eat sound a bit different than the things you eat so I'll just mention some of my "staples":

Cut up fruit & veggies: Usually bell peppers (prefer any / all colors other than green, but will eat green on occasion), baby spinach, baby carrots, brocolli florets, apple slices. For whatever reason I'm not a cucumber / celery fan, but they can be added, along with mushrooms. I don't bother with dip other than chunks/slices of cheese or home-made hummus. Mostly I just eat them plain. I haven't made hummus in a while, but you can have LOTS of fun with hummus, varying the type of beans used and other ingredients.

How about peppers stuffed with other healthy vegetables? Or a chicken breast wrapped in lean ham: that takes no time to prepare! emoticon

Instead of a junk food treat.....

Friday, July 29, 2011

I treated myself to a new computer. Actually the one I've been using is my son's, so now I have my own emoticon
Fortunately he was kind (and knowledgeable enough) to set it up for me. The screen is 20" (his is 15") and now I can see everyone's smiling faces much better emoticon
The reason I'm sharing this with you is to give any reader of this blog incentive to, instead of splurging on junk foods, SAVE the $$$ and treat yourself to a present instead. The money I've saved is amazing, seriously! And I will use the rest to go back to Water Country USA on Sunday with my husband-----FUN! emoticon emoticon emoticon

An entry on facebook that really made me think

Thursday, July 21, 2011

Hi sparkfriends, I just have to share this. I copied and pasted it on my facebook page and here it is:
I was going to complain about how hot it is... then I realized that at least: 1.) it isn't 109 degrees; 2.) I'm not 5,700 miles from home; 3.) I'm not dressed in a full BDU uniform and helmet and carrying 70+ lbs.; and 4.) there is very little chance that anyone will shoot at me or that I might drive over a bomb in the road today! Thanks to all who serve !!!

I just ate my first tomato of the season for lunch. It wasn't anywhere near the size of yours, but it sure was delicious! :)

ENJOY!

Can't wait for OURS...the tomato plants are the hardiest looking ones in our veggie garden...just growing by leaps and bounds with oodles of blossoms! Once again, bell peppers are fairing very poorly...grr!
