I've had (and still have) alot going on......

Friday, August 20, 2010

Hi sparkfriends! It's been about a month or so since I've been here. I wanted to touch base to let you know that I have been dealing with not only my father's illness (Parkinson's) but my step mom is now getting treatment for a malignancy, which thank the good Lord, was caught in time. In a few weeks, I will be taking another trip to see them (almost 300 miles). I FINALLY got some much needed rest, I slept 10 + hours last night, took the rest of this week off from both jobs, and spent some time with my church friends for prayer and support. I sort of fell off the wagon with eating right, but gained only one pound. But I don't want it to turn into 2 pounds, then 3, etc. This blog is my first step in getting back on track. I'm having fresh cantaloupe for breakfast along with sugar-free cereal and skim milk, then this afternoon, I am going to the pool for exercise (my favorite). It's great to be back here, I missed everyone!

Good for you to nail some serious sleep! That's something I'm always struggling to do...never enough hours in the day!

Great to see you back can be SO TOUGH to support our loved ones when such chronic and serious problems arise...!

    God bless You.

In all your taking care - please take time to care of yourself!

You can help no one if you get down and out.

My son told me two days before my most recent stroke, "mom you've got to choose rest by choice or by chance."

Now I know what he meant. I didn't choose to rest now I feel lucky to have the chance - no option now - to rest for my health's sake.

Be blessed. Jazz emoticon

A new-found appreciation for the catering business

Sunday, July 11, 2010

I'm working a part-time summer job for a catering company and last night was my first time. My son and I worked for about 5 hours. We were circulating the room to take empty plates, dishes, bottles, soda cans, and glasses, and we also set up and took down the buffet trays. No kidding, with the exception of a 20 minute break, we were moving NONSTOP. However, we received very nice bonuses from it---we've acquired new friendships, got to schmooze with the former mayor and a well-known news anchorman, and (drum roll please)-------we weighed ourselves this morning and weigh 2 pounds less! And I am sure that carrying those heavy trays will build muscles (we can feel it in our legs, arms, and even abs, we're feeling it). For those of you reading this and who are cooks, waitpeople, and any aspect of the restaurant and catering business, I sure appreciate the hard work you put in. I can't wait to do it again!

    Congrats to your new challenge!

One never knows what opportunities life will dish up for us!

Great to make the most of it and find that appreciation for the work that others do non-stop! :-)

Hope your summer has been a SUPER one!

Happy belated 4th

Tuesday, July 06, 2010

I worked most of the weekend, including yesterday, so I didn't spend much time on my computer. Even though independence day has past, I'm thankful EVERY DAY for our country, freedom, and our men and women in the military who make it possible.

Stressed to the max, but.............

We're taking lemons and making lemonade (sugar-free of course) emoticon My son separated from his wife and moved in with us several months ago (I wasn't ready to talk about it until now). For the first 2 weeks, I had a set back and gained 4 pounds from emotional eating, especially the wrong foods and larger than usual portions. Well, this morning, instead of just sitting around over-eating and feeling sorry for ourselves, we went for a 2 hour swim. The pool is less than 1 mile away. We are feeling MUCH better and will join up. It's only $10 a year, can't beat that! Granted, my son is 34, he's not a child-----but he is MY child and I was (and still am) hurting for him. But now that I took him swimming, I saw his spirits being lifted. In fact, I told him about SparkPeople and he may consider joining (he is almost 300 pounds I'm sorry to say). After we got back, he had a healthy breakfast, the first I've seen since he's been here. Instead of having bacon and eggs, he had grapefruit and oatmeal (same as me). He loved the swim very much and will go several days (or evenings) a week while he is job-hunting. As for me, I took 3 of the 4 pounds off, I am getting back on track. We just needed to pray, and take one day at a time. Thanks for listening SP friends emoticon

I feel for you and your son. My son and his wife divorced a few years ago. It's tough, especially when little kids are involved. That's awesome that you can spend time with him and cheer him up. Sounds like you have some great plans. Blessings to you both!
