Hurricane Arthur (We are ok)

Friday, July 04, 2014

We got grazed with the outer part of the storm system thankfully. As of 8:30 am it is still dark, rainy, and a few gusts here and there but it should clear out by the afternoon. The Outer Banks of North Carolina received the brunt of it (if you're from there and reading this, I hope you're ok). We live about 95 miles north. I got a few pictures of the rapidly passing and rotating clouds.

Our Vegetable Garden

Friday, June 27, 2014

I cannot take the credit for this great-looking garden, this is my husband's pride and joy! Fortunately we've been getting a good soaking rain here and there. I can't wait for the tomatoes to ripen, they are coming along fine! He also planted squash, zucchini, green peppers, and cucumbers. Doesn't get any fresher than this!

    Oooh! JEALOUS! :-)

I just haven't the time to devote to making a veggie garden work...have tried in the past, failed miserably...didn't bother this year.

YUM to all your garden treasures!

Looking at those fresh veggies is making me hungry this morning and I haven't had breakfast yet. Love fresh veggies from the garden. They have a totally different taste than what you get in the store.

The Relay for Life

Thursday, June 19, 2014

Hi Friends! Hope all is well with everyone! On June 7th my team and I did a midnight 5K for The American Cancer Society, a very worthy cause. Here are some pictures of our team. We truly had a lot of fun and cannot wait for the next time!

Me posing with the Old Dominion University (ODU) mascot

Our tent and base of operations

The track we went around

My teammates and I all dressed in bright orange! I am on the far right wearing the orange (what else) bandana

A close up of yours truly

Live music, both live bands and later in the evening a DJ

For an additional fund-raiser, they hosted a "Miss Relay" contests with some brave guys dressing up LOL! The first picture is one of our team members!

We raised close to $2,000 with holding a raffle with nice prizes (such as gift baskets, etc).
For those who are battling and/or survivors, God bless!

I miss Relay. I moved in November, and was unable to attend my "home" Relay for the first time in 6 years. Thanks for doing this - it is a fun way to raise money for a good cause.

A few years back I along with other local Sparkers got together to do the Relay For Life.

We had somebody on the track for the whole 24 hours! It was a LOT of fun!

The Dirty Girl Mud Run

Thursday, May 01, 2014

Hi Sparkies! Hope all is well! I know I haven't been here much but I have lots going on right now and fortunately my situations are simmering down slowly but surely. And now, on to an achievement I accomplished last Saturday, 4/26. I participated in The Dirty Girl Mud Run and this is my first run EVER! The term "mud run" sure rose up to the occasion LOL! Here are some pictures:

These fine ladies I did the run with are my friends from church. There were over 700 + at this event, it was a clear beautiful day. Already, we are planning to do this next year! In the meantime, I will continue my training as I will be doing another 5K for The Relay for Life on Saturday, 6/7.

My Danish Heritage

Saturday, December 07, 2013

Hi Spark friends! I know it's been a while, but I've been in Denmark for a while (with my sister and first cousin also) to not only see the sights, but to also visit 3 of my dad's living cousins and their families. I didn't have much access to any computer. It was great meeting everyone for the first time! And not only did we do a lot of walking around but we ate more healthy such as fresh meats and produce. Well.....okay, maybe some decadent Danish pastries and desserts here and there and truth be told.....yum! But I still managed to lose 10 pounds while over there.
Here are some of very many pictures I took:

These are some of the 270 plus pictures I took! Denmark is broken up into islands off the mainland of the Jutland Peninsula; we stayed at the summer home of a family member on Zealand Island a few blocks from the North Sea in a town called Liseleje and also stayed in Roskilde near the Roskilde Fjord. Then a few days before returning, we visited the City of Copenhagen. Fun, fun, fun!! Oh! before I forget! Besides walking, driving, and the public transit, one of the main modes of transits among the Danes is cycling! There are specific bike paths that are between the sidewalks and roadways. We didn't get the chance to rent bikes this go-round, but next time we visit, that will be the first on my list!

    Oooh! JEALOUS! :-)

My son is heading to Denmark in January and can't wait to see it. Of course he and I have been talking a LOT about how cyclo-centric Denmark is. Someday I'd love to do both Denmark and Netherlands for that reason! :-)

Kudos to having such a special time AND dropping some pounds too!

Don

ps...my grandmother immigrated from Denmark so there's heritage there for me as well as Netherlands, Czechoslovakia and Ireland...European melting pot that I am...lol!

Thanks so much for the pictures! I have never been there but my very best friend was Danish. She moved to the US in her early twenties so lived a long time here in the US. I loved her dearly. I miss her very much as she passed away a couple of years ago. She always trimmed her Christmas Tree with little Danish flags and spoke Danish all the time. Her mother still lives in Denmark and I felt I was a little Danish for all the stories she told me over the years. She was a wonderful person and loved her heritage.
