Horrible weekend for health

Monday, August 23, 2010

Well, this weekend it seemed like nothing worked out. between being invited out to dinner TWICE, my son going to stay with his great granny, all healthy choices just simply went out the window as we slipped back into old habits. On the upside, Sunday I made a healthy meal for my in-laws and they loved it. My son and I..well, not so much lol. We got the bowflex set up, now all I have to do is figure out how to use the damn thing. but its another week and hopefully i can get back into the groove and PLAN the meals this weekend.

Today I met my nutritional goals again, second day in a ROW!!! Now i just need to my bowflex set up so i can get down to serious workouts, and my 10 year old son is getting involved with me, helping create a really great playlist for our workout days. Saturday the in-laws are coming here for dinner and my father in law is on a very strict diabetic diet. I have NO IDEA what to cook for dinner, only that I really want to impress them and make him a truely enjoyable meal (as he has been kind of down about his diet, having always loved food). Any ideas out there?

Wow!

I feel like this whole Spark thing has just given me a wake up smack in the forehead! I can't believe how much it makes me WANT to track what I'm eating, doing....I spent what must have been two hours at the grocery store yesterday just reading labels! I'm finding it very hard to balance my foods though, like yesterday I made my fat intake goal, but was way below on my calories and carbs and protein. I really don't worry about the water part since that and coffee is all I normally drink. Of course, uh..well, when you have company and start playing silly board games, one alcoholic drink turns into many and..well, lets just say I'll have to keep a better eye on that, not that the drinking happens often lol. Even intoxicated I got on line to look up the nutritional (funny how even alcohol has nutritional values) and reluctantly added it to my days numbers. I don't think people really realize how many empty calories are in alcohol until they have reason to look. lol.
As far as the goals I set yesterday, I managed to smoke four less than I did the day before..the heavy duty cleaning in the kitchen didn't quite happen (too much time at the grocery store and not enough time in my day). Since it wasnt too hot, me and the dogs spent an extra half hour outside chasing balls and frisbees (which, in turn, meant I spent more time chasing the dogs to get the balls and frisbees back cause they like to play "keep away from the human" games when they get tired of fetching lol).
Anyway, today I'm feeling very hopeful about the Spark, nothing else has ever really made me sit up and pay attention before!

Hope you all have a wonderful day!

Good Morning Everybody!

Tuesday, August 17, 2010

My Mom once told me that the Good Lord gave us so many days in our lives so we could take things one day at a time. Me, being me, could always come up with an argument about things like that, simply because I'm going through a religious crisis (meaning my family is Christian and i'm not sure what I am anymore, but that's a whole other story). Anyway, No matter what or who you believe in, have a little faith in yourself, and take things one day at a time. That's the best we can do...and..shhh but dont tell my mom this..but..I kinda think she's right! :P

Todays goals:
1. Do some heavy duty cleaning in the kitchen.
2. Smoke 3 Less cigarettes today than I did yesterday.
3. Make breakfast fritatta in bulk and freeze it (and for gosh sake remember to LABEL THEM) for the days I wake up late and have to rush to get my family on the move (kinda like today *blush*)
4. Read one chapter in the Spark book.
5. Spend at least five more minutes playing outside with the dogs.

So folks..i'll probably be checking in here soon..thank you all for the wonderfully supportive words....and here's to taking things one day at a time! Cheers!

Well....First day nearly done...

Monday, August 16, 2010

Today was a little stressful, trying to write down everything that went into my mouth, then grilling my husband and son about everything that they put in their mouths and trying to keep up with them too. The day is over and I've counted that I smoke over a pack of cigs a day! 20 smokes to a pack, and i've had 29 today!! Yikes. That's something of an eye opener. Getting my water intake today wasnt hard considering I pretty much drink just straight water all day long and rarely have a soda anymore. I'll be on in the morning to set up those days goals.

Hope everybody had a great and inspirational day!

It gets easier to keep track of what you eat, it just takes some practice but eventually you start to recall more clearly what you have eaten and learn to work the nutrition tracker better. Sometimes if I am snacking at work (which I try not to do but sometimes can't resist) I write down what I eat on a post-it so that I don't forget.

It's nice that you are already in the habit of drinking water. Drinking at least 8 glasses of water is one of my daily goals because it is hard for me since I rarely feel thirsty.

Good luck with your program!
