What to do with old habits that got me where I am? Bring in the big guns: tracking, water, morning walks, and being on SparkPeople!

The weather is not cooperating for the longer walks I want to do. We had snow and hail today, although it did let up while we ducked out for a mile and a half with the dogs. I'm longing for better weather. My new bike--the one I didn't ride but once last summer--is calling my name. I pumped up the tires this afternoon and it's ready to go as soon as the skies clear.
The day started off right with a green juice. I decided to forgo the daily egg/toast breakfast and try something new. I was impressed by how the juice was satisfying and how it held me until lunch. I also had noticeably more energy. This may become a regular feature of my day!
This afternoon, since I'm new to juicing, I read a couple of eBooks about it. I downloaded them to Kindle for Mac to read on my computer. The first one was newly published and cost .99 on Amazon. It was hardly more than a pamphlet, and probably took all of five minutes to read. I learned nothing. It had three recipes, a big disappointment. The second one, however, was free! It had lots of good information, I was impressed. The author is Farnoosh Brock. Her website is Prolific Living.
My juicer is a Green Star, which is a dual gear masticating machine. I say I'm new to juicing because, although I bought this machine several years ago, I haven't used it much. It's a great machine though and I can see where I'm going to be juicing daily.
Tomorrow I'll see the nutritionist again. I just started working with her and am looking forward to having her expertise help me sort out all the conflicting information out there. While I'm in town I'll hit the grocery store and fill my cart with veggies!

Wow, I'm feeling very encouraged and strong today. My daughter sent me some Vasque hiking shoes that were a bit too small for her and they fit perfectly. What a boon! I can't take them off Last night while we were sitting around reading I thought, "These shoes feel so good I just have to go for a walk!" I took the dogs and went down to the mailbox and back, about a quarter mile. I have never done that before, but the new energy is fantastic.
Another encouraging thing is finding some new Spark friends, who have similar interests, activities and goals. I'm really looking forward to interacting more and hope I can be as much of an inspiration to somebody else as they have been for me.
I've been reading The Spark, too. I had just finished reading Transformation Road, and watching Hungry for Change, and Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead. So much motivation to clean up my daily food choices. I'm making steady progress, learning to track conscientiously and make better decisions.
It's not like I've never lost weight before, but this hopefully is a lasting lifestyle adjustment.
Thank you, Everyone!

I've kept within my calorie range, I've exercised each day, I've lost 5.4 lbs. I see a pattern :)

I'm still finding my way around the Spark site, learning how to use all the different features. And, there seem to be quite a lot of them! Today I was looking at all the ways you can graph nutrition.
I've made three comments that I thought were blog entries and then wasn't sure why they didn't show up here, but turns out they were Journal entries, so I guess I still have so much to learn.
Other blogs are so inspiring. I'm just amazed and humbled by what courage and perseverance people are exhibiting and I'm sure I haven't even scratched the surface.
Well, my plan is to become healthy. In the process I hope to lose about 50 lbs. I am approaching this challenge with the aid of a nutritionist/coach and using SP to track my eating plan and exercise. Last week I got some blood results back and was shocked by the cholesterol, glucose, and triglyceride values, although in hindsight it shouldn't have come as a shock at all! I didn't gain an extra 50 lbs by eating healthy, did I?
I began tracking my food and changing my habits on Saturday. My exercise had been consisting of a daily dog walk with my husband and our two German Shepherd Dogs, Sasha and Dieken. We usually walk down our county road to the end of the pavement, a round trip of 1.4 miles. Our Sasha is 9 yo and my husband is 82 (today, in fact). I decided to add another walk, taking the younger dog, 5 yo Dieken, and go farther, making a total of 3.88 miles between the two distances.
The weather has not been cooperating on a couple of days and I'm letting it prevent me from the additional mileage, but it has to stop snowing at some point!
I turned 65 this month, and have some big plans for the future!
