alternate exercise routines

Monday, February 12, 2007

After a skiing trip this past weekend, I find myself unable to exercise as I normally would. I do cardio activity at least 6 days a week and due to a swollen knee I cannot put much weight on my right leg. I know it will get better but it is frustrating because I had such an exercise streak going. I am trying to look at this as a time to work on my core and upper body and get out of my exercise rut. I just need to get past the mindset that I am not exercising if I am not doing cardio. I will focus on different muscle groups this week and see how my body responds.

planning and preparation

Monday, February 05, 2007

I am very pleased with the planning and thought I put into healthy eating this weekend. I am finally viewing the weekends as a time to slow down and prepare healthy foods as opposed to eating every meal out "because it's the weekend."
Everything I ate was either healthy, the correct portion, or I managed to compensate with extra exercise. I resisted the food court at the mall because I knew we were going out to dinner later. While my kids had pretzel dogs and milk shakes I ate a Kashi bar that I brought along. I ate fish for dinner and 4 of us split one dessert. I made good Super Bowl snacks but measured them out and counted all calories.
The end result is I DID NOT OVEREAT AND I STAYED IN CALORIE-RANGE.
That is huge for me!

Is it a habit yet?

Friday, January 26, 2007

I have been exercising a lot the past two weeks. I have not missed a weekday cardio workout yet. The weekends are harder with family activities but I have to make the time for it. I would like to see the benefits of my healthier lifestyle a bit sooner. I know it takes time but I feel like I'm doing everything right. I have been reading Dr. Oz's book You: On a Diet and following it as closely as possible. I have eliminated most sugar, am eating the right things, not eating after dinner, etc. Hopefully, I'm gaining more lean muscle and that will help. I'm ready to see some significant changes in waist size. I am committing to working out both days this weekend.

Good for you! Weekend eating and exercising is my biggest challenge as well. Wanna check in with each other on Monday and see how we did?

New opportunities

Monday, January 08, 2007

Seems to have been a while since my last update. The holidays took their toll as usual. But, the new year brings new opportunities to improve. So far, so good. I have been back to the gym with a goal of at least 4 times a week. Still have not updated that iPod, though! That will help make the gym trips more enjoyable. I finished my morning workout by 7:15 this morning which I really like because now I do not have to be worried about when to fit it in today. Anything additional I plan to do will be a bonus, like walking the dog or doing a few more core exercises.

Tuesday, November 14th

Tuesday, November 14, 2006

I finally devoted time to working on my Spark Page. Today is a cold, rainy day. Perfect for staying in and catching up. I am trying to come up with some realistic, attainable goals for this week. I seem to rely on my old standbys: go to the gym 3x per week, drink my water, watch portions, no late night snacking.
I think I will update my iPod today and that will give me incentive to get to the gym more often. DH is home sick with stomach flu or food poisoning today and consequently I don't feel like eating. I'm fearful the flu will run it's course in our family with the holidays approaching.
