WOW - 2 years has gone by

Friday, June 28, 2013

I need help. I keep failing myself and I am not going to take it any longer. I just re-read my blogs and I am in no better place than I was 2 years ago.

Well, as weight wise I am no better off. Mentally stronger -checker. Spiritually stronger - check.

But I am getting back on that proverbial horse one more time. Don't give up on me yet!!

Just putting those words out there is a huge step toward where you want to be! Just keep moving forward! You can do it.

That's one thing that I want to do but keep putting off - reading my blogs. Like you, I think it will give me a perspective on how far I have (or have not) come. Today's a new day, so we can become anything we want to.

Disney World Feb 2012

Saturday, August 06, 2011

Ok, I have to say this from the start. I have some of the greatest friends ever. If you have read my first blog then you will understand where I'm coming from. My life went thru some twists and turns this past year.... and now....

Well, now my sweet friend Ashlee and her husband and 2 kids are going to DW and guess who they want to take along??!! M-E!! YUP!! ME!! I am super excited. Love, love, love me some Disney.

So now I've got to really focus on my endurance training as I want to be able to keep up with them. I have 26 Tuesdays before we leave and I am hoping to lose 46 pounds by then. That is less than 2 pounds a week. OK, I divided it and it comes to 1.769. I think this is manageble for me. I have a goal to shot for. But hey I've been making mini-goals this whole time.

Got my hair lighted this week and it looks so pretty. Which makes me feel pretty and makes me want to shop, then I shop and I hate the "fat clothes" and that makes me ride the bike alittle longer and a little further each time. I can't wait to get into a 16. That is one goal for me as well.

I am so excited about Disney World. This is going to be good!! emoticon

Life is good as long as we want it to be. Two pounds a week is a reasonable goal and you can make it. Also you will need to be able to walk and stand for hours so your fitness is a goal too. Life is good enjoy it. My weight loss and exercise has salvaged my life.

Eat Breakfast?? I'm trying!! Really I Am

Thursday, July 28, 2011

When I first wake up I am not hungry. Actually that is one of the few times that food is not on my brain. I usually get hungry around 9:30am - 10am and of course I'm at work. Granted we have a full kitchen but it is not feasible to stop work and go in there and make breakfast for myself. I'm a Leasing Agent for an apt complex and I'm sure the prospects would love to come in to the sweet smell of sausage and eggs emoticon emoticon but that ain't gonna happen. So I usually eat a snack that is either crackers, chips, cookies something, anything that is not a healthy choice.

I am striving for healthy choices but I am in such a morning routine that I don't know how to break my bad habit. I get up - without an alarm mind you - 7 days a week by 6:30am. Ok forget this my morning schedule is as follows:

6:15am Take the dogs for a walk
7:00am Back home and give the dogs fresh water and food
7:10am Sit down and catch up on local news and/or email
7:30am Take a shower
7:50am Get dressed, hair, makeup and such
8:15am Take the doggies out for one last "p-mail" before work
8:25am Walk to the office

I know that habits are broken by replacing positive ones. But where would I add MY breakfast and what to make?? I started thinking and one thing could that I have a tenancy of binging at night and therefore not hungry first thing in the morning. Ok stop all the binging - I can work on that. I am learning a lot about myself as I write it all out. So bear with me. I really don't want to get up early because I do not feel comfortable walking the dogs in the dark by myself. I do wait for the sun to come up.

Is there anything that I can prepare the night before maybe and heat up for breakfast? I know that breakfast does not have to consistute said breakfast food so that could be one way for me to think outside of the box but I am very open to suggestions. Did or does anyone else have an issue with this? And if so how did you improve? emoticon

I'm just starting back to eating breakfast as well. My problem is that once I start eating, my hunger kicks in, so I tend to put off eating as long as possible! I'm finding that Grape Nuts seems to holds my hunger at bay for quite a while. Going to stick with it and see what happens.

Oatmeal takes 3 minutes. Premeasure fruit. cereal and flax milk. Pick what you like and eat it.

Anything! Leftovers from last night's supper, boiled eggs, quiche you made earlier in the week.... Anything you can grab and much on, preferably protein and/or fat. I don't know what food plan you're on, but anything you can eat, you can eat it for breakfast. Personally I have some flax and yogurt first thing, but it doesn't fill me up and I always need to have something else an hour or so later. (But I work at home, so I can.) Good luck!

While you are catching up on your emails or watching the morning news, have an English muffin with LF cream cheese.
I also keep a dozen boiled eggs in my fridge each week. Some mornings I will have a hb egg with mayo in an eng muffin. Those are my go to breakfasts.
I used to be like that. A nutritionist once told me to just have 1/2 banana to start your metabolism up. Try something like that then.

Breakfast is a problem for me too. I sometimes find that yogurt with my favorite crunchy cereal and frozen fruit all mixed together is satisfying and quick. It's sort of like a parfait. No work, no hassle.
I wish us both luck!

That pivotal moment

Saturday, July 23, 2011

Ok so all the doors were open for me to attend a missions trip to Costa Rica this summer. I had been asked to lead Vacation Bible School for the local kiddos and get this I had 2 secret people paying my way in full! Ah well you cannot say no to that when you have been praying for doors to open. LOL

I was at camp with our kids from church this summer and had an eye opening experience of just how out of shape I really am. I have been to camp before and have been at this "fat person" I had become. But this year, something kicked my butt. I could not handle to heat, the walking...everything it was just so hard. And then I received word about the missions trip. I started freaking out, if I couldn't handle camp in Montgomery, AL I will never survive a missions trip in Costa Rica! Are you for real???

But lets back up. In August of 2010 I asked my husband for a divorce. That took more strength than I ever imagined I had. For many reasons that I wish not to post on here (at least for now) I will respect our privacy. Finally he moved out in Oct 2010. Those 2 months were exhausting. I moved back to Mobile the end of Oct and started a new job on Nov 1st which by the way was our anniversary. We signed divorce papers in Jan 2011 and the divorce was final in April 11. Meanwhile my health is not good - can't imagine why?!! To make a long story short had to file bankruptcy and just went to court for that and it will be discharged next week. Oh and trying my best to take care of my stubborn 82 year old mother. I love her stubbornness by the way. So to say that stress has been a factor in my life is an understatement.

I guess it was a blessing in disguise that we did not have children. And at 43 I just dont think it is going to happen. And that's ok. I believe that God has given me a great gift of volunteering with children and I have so many in my life right now. And I have the 2 greatest doggies like ever!!! (Well post pics soon.)

Getting back to the missions trip. Wow this is harder than I thought - opening up. Because when you open that door there is no going back is there? My eating habits suck! Could be a big reason I am overweight. LOL I make poor choices. I knew Costa Rica would be difficult in the eating part for me. But I found the food to be great and fresh. Yes, we did eat beans and rice with every meal but breakfast. I eat fresh veggies and fruits and drank lots of water. (Which I do a regular basis anyway.) Ok, so I go the food down and was feeling good. We took a day off to have some fun and went to Volcano Arenal to zip line. I was v ery nervous about this because I honestly did not think the cable would hold me. Did not sleep well the night before. Get there after a long ride around mountains. Going round and round in a bus for 3.5 hours is not my idea of fun. I live in Mobile, AL where things are flat. Ok, so we pay and get our gear on but me and my pastor where the last 2 to get our gear. The straps would not fit around my thighs. Ok great. So another guide found a set up for me. So here I am with the stuff cutting into me. And then we have to hike up the side of a mountain all the while in full gear, with helmet and hand strap for break. I had to stop 4 times before reaching the top. I can handle the humidity but all the rest are you crazy?!

So we get to the top of the tree and strap ourselves in, I am watching others go and look down, not to far I can do this. Well, it got to be my turn I could not pull myself up and they had to get a guy from our church group to help me. UGHHH!! Then I freak out and cannot let go of the cable. I totally freaked! Needless to say I did not go. I was so scared and so much going on in my head. They strapped me and down I went the mountain by myself. Took off the gear and sat there and cried waiting for the group. I cried about the defeat, I cried for my marriage, I cried for money issues. You name it I cried about it , for it. Heck I may have even cried for you at that moment. This girl was letting it out ya know!

But I realized I cannot let my weight hold me back to the person that I am to be. The person that I believe that God has me to be. I have decided to take my life back and not allow others to dictate it. To take time for me. To eat healthier. To be fit. To enjoy life.

It's harder this time and maybe because I know this it is. I have gone grocery shopping, bought healthier foods. Knowing this is a lifelong process and there will be slip ups. I just want to find someone now to exercise with. I am a very social person and enjoy hanging with others and talking, laughing or maybe cry again. LOL

So now here I am on Spark. Reaching. Learning. Growing....And that's my story...Well so far.

Wow, what a hard yet powerful story you've shared here. I'm so sorry that your motivating moment was painful and embarrassing for you, especially while you were in the middle of doing something so selfless by going to Costa Rica in the first place! It sounds like you're a generous, energetic, all-around wonderful person, and I hate it that something caused by culture-encouraged bad habits might have made you feel anything less than the fantastic daughter that God sees when he looks at you!

I also told my husband that I was leaving him in August 2010 (shortly after our 13th anniversary) and, with my four kiddos, moved into my sister's home in October 2010. I know how rough it is to want to protect my and his privacy by not sharing the details, especially when, as a Christian, many of the people whose respect I treasure may not accept that I wouldn't have left without a very good reason.

I'm so glad that you've found a healthy place to work on losing weight. I've been at SparkPeople for just shy of 3 weeks and can't believe how much better I feel just for taking control and meeting small goals, even without having achieved huge success yet.

I pray all the best for you with your goals! Congrats on using something painful to aim for something good--you can totally do this! Not one people in a hundred has the courage to step so far out of their comfort zones as you did just by leaving the country in the first place. If you can do that with God's help, think what a piece of...granola...this will be! Have fun with it!
