Working towards a comeback

Monday, February 14, 2011

Well, It has been a rough past year or more for me. I started feeling weak, nauseous and tired most of the time. After many, many doctor visits I still have no idea what is causing it and am not improving. My last visit the doctor told me to seek acupuncture or try a gluten-free diet. I did go gluten-free for awhile with no improvement. I cannot afford acupuncture. So.....I am up 8 lbs. I am still in a healthy BMI, but finding it hard to maintain. I try to work out, but it's very hard, feeling like I do. Sometimes, I think that when I do exercise, after a few days I feel worse. My legs actually start to ache.

Now that I have that off my chest, if I could keep my eating under control, that would help too. I have picked up my old snacking habits. Other than the snacking for the most part I am still eating healthy. I am going to start tracking my calories on here everyday again. I know that helps me have more will power to avoid the snacking. So, this is it. I need to get back on track. I don't want that 8lb. gain to turn into 10, 15, 20....

Before I began my journey to a healthy lifestyle, I was consuming probably @2500 calories a day! I joined sparkpeople in Nov of 2008. I had such a hard time keeping my calories under 1800. I felt deprived some days. Now, I aim for about 1700 calories a day. I have a hard time REACHING this number. I have learned to eat more fruits and veggies. I thought I ate enough before, but I wasn't. I was eating A LOT more empty calories. It is such a good feeling to know I have succeeded! I honestly believe this healthy lifestyle has helped me in so many ways. I don't get sick as often (colds and things) as before. I don't need to take a multi-vitamin anymore! I have more energy and countless more benefits! I can honestly say I am definitely NOT deprived!

Who knew that I would enjoy jogging so much. So far I really have not run much. I did a few days with an endurance program, but went back to walking on the treadmill with an incline. This week-end while on vacation in Mackinac Island, MI, I jogged about 10 miles. In Mackinaw City, I ran along the lake shore and through town. On the island, I ran a beautiful, hilly, route through the woods and along the bluff! Both were beautiful although on the island was my favorite. I now know that when I don't have access to a treadmill or workout DVDs, I will have no problem keeping up on my exercise. I also know, when I jog on the treadmill, I can handle an incline! (At least half the time.) emoticon

Thank you!

When I began my weight loss journey, I never thought it would be so noticeable. I didn't see myself as overweight or obese. Now, I get constant compliments and praise from friends and family. One aunt even asked where I left the rest of me. I'm not one for being in the spot light, but it gives me more determination to maintain my weight loss. Thank you so much to all my family for the praise and support! I hope I can be an inspiration to any of you who have your own weight loss (and other) goals!

Beautiful Weather

Finally got out for a nice long walk with the boys. Four miles around my neighborhood. I did it in 60 min! Last fall it took at least 80 min. and I was exhausted afterwards. One of the non-weight related rewards to getting healthy again. Then, I came home a whipped out a 12 min mile on the treadmill with a 15% incline. I knew I was going out for a fish fry and wanted to burn a few extra calories. What a difference I have noticed in my stamina! Now, if only I could do ONE pull up!!! :) emoticon
